Good for families

Great location, expensive site for what it is.

This site is in a perfect location, on the bolton abbey estate.  If you are in to walking you do not need to move the car.    Bolton Abbey has 75miles of footpaths however please be aware that dogs are restricted from a number of areas, other areas require the dog to be on a lead even in the woods/fields. There is a great circular walk if you go to the strid turn left over the bridge, then follow the footpath for about 3/4 of an hour to the cavendish tea rooms then follow the path on that side of the river for another 3/4 of an hour back to the camp site.  Foot paths are gravel and whilst there are several slopes they are not difficult and there is even a route suitable for wheelchairs. Thats the good bit. Approaching the site you have to pass through a narrow arch in the road.  This is tight but if you take it slowly its ok, its on a straight bit so not too much of an issue.  But not sure I would want to take one of the new wider vans through. Arrival at the site is 1pm if you arrive early you have to wait for the wardens to let you on.  Departure is 11am.   When we arrived we were told the bottom area of the site was the quietest, free from kids etc.  This is not true, there is a slope leading down to the bottom area which the kids love to race the scooters/scateboards down, so you get lots of traffic there.  The other thing that is not mentioned is that the bottom area of the site is near some sort of septic pit, and the stench is not pleasant at all! I normally stay on CLs so when I pay the main site fees I expect a bit more.  The site has many hard standings, but very few are level, if the site is paying to have hard standings put in, it is not unreasonable to expect the builders to make them level side to side.  Many are small not catering for an awning and car to be side by side.   All pitches seem really close together so if you are a bit anti social you are not going to like the fact that everyone is so close. The showers are clean although at busy times you can expect to queue.    There is a nice dog walk on site, but there are several campers who don't pick up!

Because of the trees there is no TV reception on site.  Booster cables are available but these are only for an analogue signal so if you have a new digital only TV (Avtex) take lots of videos if you are into TV.

There is no mobile phone signal on site, nearest phone signal is a couple of miles away.  This seems to be the case for all networks.   Site wifi is good however, and there is a call box for phone calls.
