First visit
Arrived at Bolton Abbey at what is an extremely busy period in Easter. We were stuck in traffic for ages whilst cars were turning into Bolton Abbey but once we got past That we arrived at the site very quickly. This is our first visit to the site and we absolutely fell in love with the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. I am a wheelchair user and found the walks extremely accessible. Just outside the caravan site is a small tea room and ice cream parlour however the quality of the food was questionable but the ice cream was extremely delicious. We also went into strid wood for walks after stopping for ice cream. Be warned if you are visiting the woods the car park is £9.95 a day. When we initially parked on site we were told that we had to park our van In a particular spot. I tried to explain to the warden that we needed to use a ramp for me to gain access in and out of the caravan and parking the van where he directed would prevent us from doing this. We were greeted with shrug of shoulders and told fire regulations must be met. I understand this however there was no alternative for parking our vehicle which made accessibility into the van difficult for me. The disabled facilities were restrictive being an awkward L shape and narrow. On the positive side the campsite reception has a well stocked variety of essential goods. A DVD library and a book library too. I was always greeted with a smile And when I asked questions about local facilities was given good information. The facilities were spotless as was the site and we thoroughly enjoyed our few days away. I was woken up a few times during the early hours of the morning due to loud music playing. Warden advised that an illegal rave had been taking place at Bolton Abbey and they had contacted the police about this. There was little else they could do other than contact the authorities for them to sort out. Other than that we found the site to be very well-kept and within easy access of local attractions and countryside.
Comment from the Club:
Many thanks for your review and we are pleased to read that you found the site great for walks in the area and that you enjoyed your stay and found the facilities and site spotless. With regards to the fire regulations, the Club does need to ensure that these are maintained for the safety of all on site and we hope that our warden’s help was appreciated getting your caravan and van into a position where fire breaks could be kept and the ramps able to come out when needed to access the van.
Please be assured the site staff always do their utmost to help members and try and make staying on site as easy as possible for anyone with disabilities, finding pitches close to the facilities.
The wardens look forward to greeting you again soon.
