Just returned from our first visit to Bolton Abbey Site, for the New Year. Booked at the last minute as pitches had become available.
We were delighted with the site, smaller than some but that is our preference.
Very friendly and helpful welcome from Janet on arrival and offered a choice of pitches.
The site has a lot of tree cover but we think that is part of its charm.
We don't have a TV so can't comment on reception. No 'phone signal but WIFI worked well to communicate New Year wishes.
Lots of birds on the site which was lovely. It was very peaceful at all times.
We didn't use the facilities. Good to see glass recycling.
Travelled via A59 from Harrogate which is a perfectly good A class road and negotiated the stone bridge in Bolton Abbey with no difficulties.
Despite the wet weather we managed a walk down to The Strid and a ride on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway (free parking here, unlike the estate car parks!)
We will be back to explore the footpaths further and to enjoy the wildlife and peace.
Beautiful setting
Have just stayed here for 1 night to check it out for future stays, i must say i was pleasently suprised by the picturesque location, easy access for a few walks and a tea room at the entrance. As a lazy person i found the lack of tv sgnal and phone signal was an issue if you want to just chill but found it no problem really as it made me get up and go for a walk. Lovely site managers who i believe were relief but were very welcoming and cheerful. Will definateley be returning in the not too distant future. Thank you

Not a bad site if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful break.
Not a bad site if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful break. As part of the Bolton Abbey estate everywhere is nicely manicured. The River Wharfe and surrounding area is delightful for some gentle walking often on metalled paths. The site is well maintained although you will need alternative methods of viewing TV as the hookup is really feeble with barely a signal for the 8 channels provided. You will also need transport to get to Skipton or other attractions as the site is a little isolated and may become limiting if you intend to stay for several days or during the winter months.
Winter break / family meet up
2 nights in this beautiful location in the Yorkshire Dales.
Very friendly staff, given choice of any pitch as they weren't busy.
Facilities very clean.
Despite the weather, staff were out cleaning wet leaves off the roads & paths to help walking & driving.
Super walk down to the side of the river Wharfe on gritty paths & The Strid tearoom comes highly recommended and also is very dog friendly.....dogs get their biscuits first!!!!
Only caution would be the arch at Bolton Priory on the way in from the main road. It is mentioned on the C & MC site details but is very tight & you need wing mirrors out to check clearance ( only a couple of inches either side for a standard width motorhome!! ).
Super base for an off season break but imagine it would be a completely different atmosphere when it's busier.
No children with us so can't comment on suitability for families.
Great location, peaceful and spotless
Our second outing with a new caravan. We chose this popular beautifully situated location. Friendly helpful wardens. Thank you for helping us with our jockey wheel problem!! Spotless facilities in a tranquil spot.
We will definitely return next year as it is not too far for us to travel to. The walk to Burnsall on a crisp frosty morning was excellent. Seeing lots of wildlife. Great lunch at the Red Lion pub. Bought a book of walks from reception.

Great site
This is a fantastic site, we have just had a great 3 days, walks are so good from this site, walked to apple wick and had lunch at the craven arms, then back to the site, then a good circular walk round baden bridge and the priory, finishing with a nice pot of tea and cake at the cafe right by the site. The warden is very nice and helpful and the shower blocks, laundry etc is kept spotless.
Love our motorhome

First visit to Bolton Abbey
This is the first time we have stayed at this site.....what a gem. Brian and Janet were extremely welcoming and friendly and more than happy to give you all the information needed. The site is in a fantastic position surrounded by woodlands and really well laid out pathways. These provide hours and hours of walking and wonderful views. Plenty of cafes around although we found that most will not allow dogs inside which makes for a very cold and quick lunch sitting outside even with blankets provided. Would highly recommend this site and will be back again early next year, if not for Christmas. A message to Brian and Janet....we hope your dog continues to recover. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Our favourite Club site
We love this site, having been there many times in recent years. It is small and friendly and its location is perfect. For anyone who loves the countryside and wildlife, the walks through the woods and on both sides of the River Wharfe are a joy. The site is close to Skipton which is a splendid Yorkshire town with frequent market days, lots of local shops, and even a castle.
The only drawbacks to the site are: it doesn't sell newspapers (and it's a long walk to the paper shop in Bolton Abbey!) and tv reception relies on a cable system that offers very limited programmes and no subtitles for the deaf. But these points don't put us off at all.
One of our favourite sites
This was our first stay at Bolton Abbey, it was recommended by my sister in law and she was right - we loved it! The weekend coincided with Bonfire night which was ideal as our dogs weren't affected by the fireworks, we could hardly hear them. The weather was cold and crisp and it's a perfect location for walking. We walked along the river to Appletreewick where we stooped at a lovely pub called the Craven Arms. We had Sunday Lunch at the Woolly Sheep in Skipton which I would definitely recommend The site itself is clean and well maintained and the owners were very helpful. The road was closed when we got there meaning along diversion on narrow country roads making our journey more eventful than anticipated but at least leaving the site through the arch was easy by comparison! We will definitely be coming back here, we loved it.
Peaceful week away
We returned to this very pleasant site for a second visit, we were once again delighted with the site and surrounding area. Despite it being half term the site was still very quiet, our main aim was to take our two dogs here for bonfire night as they are quite upset by the loud fireworks and it was a great success, Bolton Abbey do run an organised event which we could hear slightly but the dogs were so relaxed after a good days walk by the river the were not disturbed by this at all. We will be returning to this site again and would like to thank the wardens for doing such a splendid job in keeping everything clean and tidy it is much appreciated
