Beautiful location

This is the perfect location for great walks and cycling. Bolton Abbey is a mere 2.5 mile bike ride which gives you access to miles of riverside walking with an excellent cafe at Bolton Abbey and another along the riverside. The Tea Rooms by the entrance to the site offers cream teas and coffee and is well worth a visit to view the craftwork on sale. The site is perfect to hear the dawn chorus with cuckoos, curlews and song thrushes everywhere, the site itself is very well kept with friendly and efficient wardens who offer basic essentials at the shop, milk, eggs, tonic water etc!. Toilet blocks are very clean and warm but woefully small, four showers is simply not enough but overall this is a five star site without doubt.

Lovely site.

We received a very friendly greeting on arrival. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. Our first visit and only for 4 nights. The site is immaculate but natural, on two levels on a wooded hillside. Too many places to see and mention, fabulous for walking and cycling. We will definitely be staying again.

First visit

Arrived at Bolton Abbey at what is an extremely busy period in Easter. We were stuck in traffic for ages whilst cars were turning into Bolton Abbey but once we got past That we arrived at the site very quickly. This is our first visit to the site and we absolutely fell in love with the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. I am a wheelchair user and found the walks extremely accessible. Just outside the caravan site is a small tea room and ice cream parlour however the quality of the food was questionable but the ice cream was extremely delicious. We also went into strid wood for walks after stopping for ice cream. Be warned if you are visiting the woods the car park is £9.95 a day. When we initially parked on site we were told that we had to park our van In a particular spot. I tried to explain to the warden that we needed to use a ramp for me to gain access in and out of the caravan and parking the van where he directed would prevent us from doing this. We were greeted with shrug of shoulders and told fire regulations must be met. I understand this however there was no alternative for parking our vehicle which made accessibility into the van difficult for me. The disabled facilities were restrictive being an awkward L shape and narrow. On the positive side the campsite reception has a well stocked variety of essential goods. A DVD library and a book library too. I was always greeted with a smile And when I asked questions about local facilities was given good information. The facilities were spotless as was the site and we thoroughly enjoyed our few days away. I was woken up a few times during the early hours of the morning due to loud music playing. Warden advised that an illegal rave had been taking place at Bolton Abbey and they had contacted the police about this. There was little else they could do other than contact the authorities for them to sort out. Other than that we found the site to be very well-kept and within easy access of local attractions and countryside.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are pleased to read that you found the site great for walks in the area and that you enjoyed your stay and found the facilities and site spotless. With regards to the fire regulations, the Club does need to ensure that these are maintained for the safety of all on site and we hope that our warden’s help was appreciated getting your caravan and van into a position where fire breaks could be kept and the ramps able to come out when needed to access the van.

Please be assured the site staff always do their utmost to help members and try and make staying on site as easy as possible for anyone with disabilities, finding pitches close to the facilities.

The wardens look forward to greeting you again soon.

Lovely Site

This is a pretty site with good facilities in a superb location. This was our first stay on a club site and we were slightly underwhelmed. It is by far the most expensive site we have stayed on but was by no means the best. The site was clean and tidy and warden very welcoming; there is an abundance of wild life but also aircraft noise, site on the approach to Leeds/Bradford Airport. The surrounding area is lovely with walks to suit all levels.

What a great site

Had a week here in March/April and found the site located in a lovely remote location in Wharfdale, close to the river. Plenty of walks in dale and on local moors and some good cycling as well. Site was clean and quiet and a very friendly welcome when we arrived. No mobile reception added to the peace and quiet! Note: The approach from Bolton Abbey is through a narrow stone arch but got our Fiat Ducato based motorhome though no problem (an inch either side without having to pull the mirrors in).

Very Pleasant Site

This was our first visit and we were very impressed with this site. We were given a warm friendly reception on arrival. The site is very well kept, all facilities well maintained and clean, with a good easily accessible motorhome service point which now has the new style waste water drain grating installed. As the site is not large, on two levels, and set among mature trees it had a nice peaceful atmosphere. There are lots of walking opportunities directly from the site to suit all fitness levels. The only minus, and this is not the clubs fault, is a total lack of mobile phone signals on the site.

Enjoyed our stay but......

Enjoyed our weeks stay at Bolton Abbey apart from a few niggles. We have just stayed at Bolton Abbey which must have been the last full week before it closes and we ran out of Propane gas and the site had no bottles due to its impending closure which was very inconvenient as we were unable to get any anywhere in the area, why the wardens couldn’t stock some for next opening I’ve no idea but we couldn’t use our oven most of the stay?. Been coming here for many years but first time with our new dog and yes the walks from the site are nice through the woods but it seems dogs are not welcome off site in the area as we came across many signs saying “ No dogs allowed” not even allowed on a leash even up to Simon’s seat a favourite walk of ours. Yes the toilet block does need a bit of modernising and the broadband was also iffy!.Perhaps on reflection we won’t be returning for a while.

Great in October!

Our first time at this site and what a gem! The walks form the site are great with the leaves turning into their autumn colours it was a site to behold. The site is neat and well maintained and whilst you need a booster cable for the TV you get 8 channels to choose from. Our dog loved the walks even though she needed to stay on the lead in the woods, this rule was not observed by many though! This is lovely site and Yorkshire is a great county to visit!

Great site but beware the estate car parks

The Club Site is in a good location and there are many walks easily accessed from the site. Beware driving to any of the estate car parks. The cost for the day is almost the same as an overnight stay on site! Charges are not clear until you are entering the car parks. Facilities are acceptable on site but showers do need some updating. Grassington and Skipton warrant a trip out but be careful where you park in Skipton if driving a motorhome. The Bolton Abbey to Embsay railway seems like a good outing but we were disappointed by the facilities at each end with the cafes being inadequatre to cater for a sudden inrush of passengers and they were most uninviting.

Bolton Abbey

The site is in a nice location, and having a tea room just outside he gate is a bonus! The shower block is looking a little dated now and could do with a refurbishment to bring it up to date, but all the other facilities are fine. There's plenty of walks around the area, and shopping in Skipton.
