Fantastic Site - our favourite
We have stayed at Black Knowl many times over the past five years and always return, as it really is our favourite site in the New Forest. Fantastic location for cycling, running and walking. Peaceful site right in the forest. Easy access through small forestry road, no problems at all getting a motorhome or caravan to the site. The wardens are always friendly and keep the site immaculate. Great cyclist cafe at Woods Cyclery in Lyndhurst, they run guided gravel bike rides every Sunday.
Great for Brockenhurst Parkrun every Saturday. Everything you need for a great New Forest break.
Very well run site in a perfect location.
I was a bit concerned about staying on a large site, but all that just melted away as soon as I arrived! The most perfect location in the heart of the New Forest, both for superb walks from the site and a great base to explore further afield. So lovely to see ponies and cattle when taking the dogs out first thing in the morning. Run by a super friendly and helpful team who keep the site and facilities immaculate. Good to have a choice of pitches so you can choose secluded or more sociable depending on your preference. Loved the evening food vans too - a varied choice throughout the week. The site was very peaceful but my stay was outside school holidays. I'd definitely go back again and would certainly recommend it to others.
5* all the way, one of the best!
It was good to be back at Black Knowl after 5 years away.
Excellent location and stunning campsite, right in the middle of the New Forest.
Friendly welcome and quick check in. We only had a choice of 6 pitches but found one we were very happy with.
Large hardstanding close to the facilities.
Facilities block always 5* clean with everything you could need, including washing up room and laundry, etc.
Water and bin points close by and essentials in the small on site shop.
Loads of walking and biking routes directly from the site. We biked into Brockenhurst and then down the Rhinefield Drive and the following day biked into Burley and back. Quiet'ish roads or tracks available if you want to be off-road.
The walk into Brockenhurst took us about half an hour. Pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, Tesco and Co-op, etc., etc., in the village.
Food waggons visit the site most nights (not every night now it's out of season). We tried the Hungry Hog (Thursday night) - very good, even though they ran out of pulled pork and onions very early! Still delicious dirty fries.
We also did the New Forest Tour (open top bus from Brockenhurst railway station - seasonal). £19.50 each and well worth it. We only managed to do 2 of the routes but still very good value. Hop on, hop off, as we did in Lyndhurst and Lymington.
Weather was kind and everything about our stay was top notch......apart from a gripe of ours, lazy campers wandering across your pitch because they can't be bothered to walk around!!
Our second visit this year
This site is at the top of our list to visit each year and this year we’ve visited it twice.
The site has modern and clean facilities.
The wardens never seem to stop working except to have a friendly chat.
From this site you can walk or cycle straight into the forest where the paths seem to go on forever and you will almost certainly see the free roaming ponies.
If you wake up in the night, take a peek out of your window to see the deer that are also drawn to this site.
Each weekday a different food vender arrives around 5pm.
My only niggle was the grass was bit to long this year.
Recommended site
A great stay!!
We stayed for 5 nights in mid August 2023 and cannot commend the warden's highly enough!! Absolutely nothing is too much trouble and they run very well ordered, spotlessly clean, friendly but unregimented site.
A special mention has to go to the warden who helped us skillfully to get into our locked caravan without any damage... we are incredibly grateful to him for his patience!
It was a real pleasure and the location was great for cycling, walking and much more.
We will be returning to this site but for a longer stay next time
Would like to visit again next year
This was our first stay at Black Knowl and indeed the New Forest.
We stayed on pitch 117.
The site is very clean and peaceful.
The facilities were very clean.
We had a lovely walk through the New Forest to Brockenhurst, where there are a couple of pubs, tea rooms and restaurants.
The New Forest show as on whilst we were there which was a great visit.
Would of like to had more time so we could of used the open top bus.
We will definitely visit again.

Fabulous location, would love to return again.
This site is in such a beautiful location in the centre of the New Forest. Very quiet and calm. The facilities are spotless and the staff were very friendly. Food vans visit most evenings if you don’t want to cook. We had delicious fish and chips one evening. Brockenhurst is walking distance which is what we wanted. Perfect for walking and cycling to explore the area. We will definitely return.
Spotlessly clean, a fantastic site
This was our first visit to Black Knowl, we had a good choice of pitches and found the perfect one which had sun from morning through to sunset ( pitch 123) all the wardens were lovely and chatted but weren’t constantly in your face! The entire site was spotless with plenty of facilities, we tried out the pizza van and the fish and chip van but was a week early for the hog roast. The New Forest show was on whilst we were there which we walked to, about a 20/25 minute walk on flat ground over a field( there is a road but it was too busy to walk along). The site is on a flight path but it wasn’t a bother and was quite nice seeing the planes fly over. This definitely a site we would visit again but watch out for the speed bumps up the lane they can be hard to spot as not overly well marked!

Excellent site, great for Brockenhurst
Black Knowl was a lovely place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful site. Great facilities, kept very clean and tidy. Friendly, helpful wardens. The on site food outlets which visit on different days was nice to have. Its a quick and easy walk to Brockenhurst during which we spotted a large variety of birdlife. Many ponies surround the entrance to the site so you don't have to walk far to be near them. The Snakecatcher pub in Brockenhurst is worth a visit for food and ales. Very delicious and varied menu, also serving hot stones for steaks and other meats.
