Overwhelmed!

I've stayed at this site for 15 years (not literally you understand) and the wardens this year are a breath of fresh air! Warm relaxed welcome. "Been before? You know what to do then!" No great list of rules or draconian telling offs! Lovely. Accommodating. Fun! (Except that bloke on the tractor who didn't put my power cable back straight and perpendicular after he moved it to cut the grass!) However... what I have noticed is how members have changed over 15 years... heads up and say hello to your fellow members.  Engage. Relax... and enjoy! Oh and don't be 30 minutes late leaving!!! (We had permission to stay later) but we left just after 12 and to say it took a while would be an understatement as there were a dozen outfits coming in on the road. Our fault! # audible tuts and sighs all around from them coming in... back in August for two weeks so watch out!

One of our favourite sites

This is an amazing site with ponies, forests & streams a short walk away. The wardens are fantastic! They are friendly & hard working. The only thing letting it down is the toilet block.

Try the bakers !

The site is great, compact but in a lovely setting with miles of walks and easy access to the village of Brockenhurst, try the bakers! The wardens were fantastic, polite, helpful and always on the go. The toilets and showers were great plenty of space like having your own en suite, a bit tired but the concept is brilliant. Space to sit, to move and get dried and dressed without concussing yourself or bashing your elbows. We will be back.

Stunning Area

This was our third year running to Black Knowl, absolutely love this site. The shower blocks do need updating a bit, but personally I think they are quaint! They are part of the site :) the facilities and grounds are well kept. Any previous comments regarding pot holes on the access roads can now be forgotten about as they were filled in whilst we were there. The wardens were excellent, always pleased to help and chat to! Brockenhurst is a 30 minute walk from the site along a nice little path, or it's easy enough to drive to. Lymington and Lyndhurst are only a short drive away too. Looking forward to going back next year regardless if the modernisation  has been done!

A few days in the forest

Stopped off at Black Knowl for a few nights so that we could revisit the New Forest after a 35 year gap. Black Knowl was perfect as a starting point for a couple of cycle rides through various tracks and roads. It also proved to be a good place to get close to the ponies and see the deer. We look forward to visiting again, with not such a large gap between visits this time.

Best holiday

This site is great, so quiet but loads of walks nearby for our pooches, the village has everything you need, great chinese and indian takeaway, great bakers and butchers, great for visiting Bournemouth, Eastbourne and Southampton. Visited some lovely villages of Bransgore, Burley and Lymington, loads to do so we will be back. They were filling in the pot holes in the road as we were leaving and although the toilet blocks are dated, we preferred then to the usual modern facilities as there is more room.

As wonderful as always

Our 7th visit to this very special site, in an extremely special part of The New Forest.  A very warm welcome to an extremely well kept site.  Despite its 'tired but quirky' facilities it still has huge appeal and these do not deter.  We understand its improvements are planned and just hope this does not destroy its appeal.  Look forward to another visit asap!  Thank you - you are our favourite!

finding Black Knowle

Very disappointed in trying to find the above site .We did what the instructions said and didn't use sat nav, went by site instructions, found there was no brown location sign anywhere and the meerrut sign obscured by overgrown ivy and weeds ,so I suggest as there are signs for 2 hotels in same area on the brown locations get you're sign put up .Beautiful site overall with lovely walks .

A bit disappointing

We booked using the caravan club website which gave us the choice of arrival time of 6pm - 8pm. However when we arrived reception was closed and I had to knock on the door - what followed was a very luke warm welcome - we could not have got there any sooner as we were coming from the Isle of Wight and the ferry did not dock at Southampton until 6.30pm, we arrived just after 7.00pm. We were made to feel unwelcome and a nuisance and that is the feeling that then stayed with us for the 4 days we stayed. The site is in a beautiful location and it will be lovely when its been upgraded, the facilities were reasonably clean but always busy with people waiting for showers in the mornings. I don't think we will bother coming back there are a lot of other sites in the New Forests for us to try. I object to paying this much money to be made unwelcome.

Great Site

Had a weekend here recently.  Been many times and never want to go home.  Perfect site for the forest and surrounding area. Great for dogs, open forest just outside the campsite gates.  Wardens lovely. Major works soon to take place which will enhance the site even more, not that the existing facilities put us off.  Can't wait to return again and again! Highly recommended especially if you have a dog.
