A favourite site but apalling approach roads full of potholes!

This is one of our favourite sites but on our recent visit we found the approach roads were full of deep potholes which could be damaging to both car and caravan as well as dangerous. We shall not return again until the roads have been repaired properly.

Excellent Site Shame About The Approach Road

I have visited Black Knowle on many occasions over the years. It is the best site for visiting the New Forest. The new facilities within the site are excellent. However, the approach road is the worst I have ever experienced at any site. The pot holes are many and dangerous, and likely to cause damage to a car and caravan. Until the approach road is sorted out I would not recommend the site to anyone.

Disappointing

Many other reviewers have talked about the approach road and although I can confirm it is very rough and full of pot holes, it is comparable to other campsites within the New forest, my issue is not with that. Mine is with the distance to get into the village. After checking the day before that the site was not flooded, what I wasn't told was, that the footpath into the village was. This meant having to use the approach road and doubling back on yourself to get into the village which was just under 2 miles and to the train station 2.5 miles. My idea of walking to the pub in the evening and staggering back after dark was simply impossible. Had the footpath been accessible at around half the distance of about a mile, this would have been achievable. We did manage to cycle in using the approach road but had to start very early to get back as it was getting dark at around 8pm. I cannot fault the facilities, the site staff and the general overall location at all. Brilliant for cycling and walking in the Forest, visiting all the little towns and villages, excellent train service but too remote for motorhome users who need to rely on foot and cycle.

Approach Road

Nice tidy site with upgraded facilities. Unfortunately the approach road is full of pot holes so be aware as it could cause damage to your van. The caravan and Motorhome club need to take responsibility for the repair and upkeep of this road.

Excellent Site let down by the access road

Being new to Motorhoming this was only our second stay. We were very pleased with this site, we enjoyed our stay. The facilities are first class, we understand they have recently been revamped. Good walks from the site including dog walks in the forest. It was quiet and peaceful. Our main gripe is that the access road was dreadfully potholed and could cause a problem if folks were not aware of how bad it is.... I don't know who's responsible for the upkeep but the Caravan & Motorhome club need to take some responsibility for it.

Immaculate first class site

The directions for the site were absolutely spot on for finding the site, though it is quite a way from the main road once you turn onto the drive up to the site ins self. The couple who run the site are super friendly and very professional, the site its self is absolutely immaculately clean and well presented. We visited just before Easter when the weather was extremely wet which meant that the ground around the site was sodden resulting in us having to take the road route to go into town which is quite a walk (in the rain not so nice) in the better weather a wonderful walk. I would highly recommend this site for the way it is presented, though perhaps not ideal if the weather is unkind as it's a little remote when its really wet. All in all I'd say its well worth a visit

Excellent new facilities, shame about the access road

I can only agree with previous reviews. This is a great site which has had an excellent and much needed refurbishment. However this did not extend to the access road which is full of large and potentially dangerous or damaging potholes.

Fantastic Site - Dangerous Approach Road

This site most definitely rates five stars bur the approach road drags it down. The site itself is lovely and quiet and it is clear that a lot of money has been spent refurbishing it. The whole site is clean and very well kept. We found the wardens friendly and helpful, in fact when we had a major electrical failure they provided some invaluable advice that got us back up and running. As mentioned in most other reviews, the biggest failure is the approach road into the site. Having just returned (30th March 18) I can honestly say that in over 30 years caravanning it is the worst I have seen. We had to crawl along to get out as most of the potholes were flooded. They are without doubt dangerous to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers they are so deep. If you value your vehicle wheels and possibly your health, I would phone and check to see if there is any improvements before booking. I certainly will.

Excellent site, shame about the AWFUL access road

Let's get the bad bit out of the way first. The access road/lane to the site is awful, especially the last section which is access to the campsite only, riddled with potholes. With regard to the site, this is a great peaceful site with direct access to the national park. All facilities have recently been updated with an excellent new spacious toilet block. Great for families or couples wanting to relax. This site should rate 5 stars, but for the access road.

Fantastic site

We love this site and look forward to our visits, site is ideally located, to be honest we cannot fault it. Only thing that lets it down is the approach road, it is well out of order with pot holes everywhere. If we all moan about it something might get done.
