Stayed here for 2 nights while heading south and a further night when heading back North.
Its a lovely clean and tidy site in a nice location. Yes, there are frequent trains running past but they honestly don't cause a problem, we just naturally blanked them out.
The site staff are attentive and helpful…..although Im not sure if it was a fluke that after my run, when I went for a shower ten minutes before closing for cleaning time, the hot water suddenly ran out and they were in getting ready to clean…..did they turn the hot water off to get me out for 1030 on the button? Hmmm, the jurys out!!
The only minor niggle is that its quite a twisty little site and can be a bit awkward to get on and off you pitch when the site is full. Thank goodness for motor movers!
Also, the access/egress road is a bit steep….you can see from the gouges in the main road that numerous vehicles have damaged themselves and the road due to its angle of approach. We have a Volvo and pull a Swift Challenger Sport. We were OK going in but our ready steadies scraped on the way out.
Notwithstanding these minor issues, we will be back as its a nice little site!
What a great location
We have just returned from a weeks holiday on the site. Having read some reviews before our holiday, we did nearly cancel. However, we are so pleased we didn't.
Yes, the site is situated on a hillside and there are houses behind the site and the village of Spittal at the bottom of the hill, but the view across the estuary towards Berwick-upon-Tweed is to die for!!! There is no feeling of being surrounded by houses, and the village of Spittal is really quite nice.
The East Coast main line does run close to the site, but most trains are electric and after you have heard the first few, it is like everything else, you get used to them and they pale into insignificance.
The site wardens are friendly and helpful. You can see that they enjoy their roles as they keep the site pristine. The shower block and facilities was spotless, and the wardens checked them again towards the end of their working day.
Berwick-upon-Tweed is a 20 minute walk away and there are plenty of places to eat in the town. If you want to take the car out and about, Holy Island (Lindisfarne) is a 20 minute drive away and there are lots of other castles and sites on interest to see.
Take a ride to the villages of Etal, Ford and Heatherslaw. These three locations are chocolate box villages and there is a 15" gauge steam railway that runs along the river bank!
All in all, the site and the sights hit the spot!
We have booked for next year already!!!!
Would return
My husband and I with our 2 dogs and Mitzi motorhome stayed here for 3 nights. Yes there is a rail track running parallel to the site but personally didn't bother us. We stayed on pitch 67 top right in the corner, very private with seaviews. We have electric bikes so only 10 minutes across the bridge to town. Very clean facilities, warm welcome, beautiful beach 5 minute's walk, we would definitely return. Happy motorhomers 😃
A Recent 4 day stay with cycling down to Holy Island, Socialising in the town. and catching up with friends
A very warm welcome on arrival, excellent information about our pitch and booking with the usual brief. Our pitch overlooked the bay at the front of the site. Simon and Nicola, the wardens were more than helpful with their knowledge of the local area, Ideas for visits at local places of interest, where to dine and where the best beers happened to be.
Managed a walk around Berwick ramparts and harbour wall and a cycle to Holy Island and back ! along the coastal path.
The site was clean and tidy and the facilities kept to a clean and high standard. Some previous reviews mention the trains however I personally didn't notice them as most were electric and our pitch was not at the trackside. We have already booked again for the September food and drink festival. Highly recommended.
High speed trains every 20mins !
Would not return here due to the fact the the high speed trains run til 11 at night & start again at 5am.. The train line runs directly behind the site and is quite fast. Not sure where other reviews got 30mph from!
Shower block is clean & tidy, good hot showers & the site is exceptionally clean Berwick is a good walk away
Not sure how this can be one of the top sites?..
Very disappointed
Wouldn’t return
Very disappointed in this site. The approach and location is not great, although it does have a sea view. Unfortunately this view also included overlooking a housing estate and partially derelict industrial area.
The East Coast main railway line adjacent to the site carried frequent traffic which although not a huge disruption wasn’t very pleasant.
The pitches are generally small and packed closer together than is usual for club sites, although minimum distances are of course maintained. The rough shale surfacing of the hardstandings doesn’t help appearances. The site has major physical constraints which can’t be got around, as it is located within a long narrow plot bounded by housing and the railway line.
We were not happy staying so left after the first night and forfeited the second night’s fee.
Understand that some are more than happy to stay for the view, but we wouldn’t return. All other club sites we’ve stayed at have been at least very good and often exceptional.
The staff we encountered were fine as usual.
We won’t return.
Lovely site
Very enjoyable week nice clean tidy site great views lovely beach walk .not far to walk to Berwick and great visit to Alnwick Gardens lovely coffee shop at Berwick garden centre .trains no problem enjoy
Gorgeous views, great position and lovely people
We have two dogs, the site and the town were welcoming of them. We walked for miles, around the town, along the river, the coastal path, along the pier and often into the best micro pub, The Curfew. . The most beautiful and unspoiled place. Berwick may seem ‘tired’ to some reviewers, to us it felt loved by locals and unpretentious.
A great little site LOVELY.views railway NO PROBLEM
We stayed at this site two nights. First Very surprised about some reviews . The East coast main line is NOT a problem. Trains are passing at 30 mph into and out of Betwick Station. The wardens trolly makes more noise ! Views from most pitches are outstanding. Lovely walk to historic Berwick 20 minutes each way . Fantastic ( you must try a cooked chicken from ASDA ) Best weve ever tasted. Dont be put off by some reviews visit Berwick and see for yourself. Great Wardens too . Make sure you DONT turn up till 1pm as the entrance is limited. Enjoy!!
Wonderful Berwick
We have been returning to Berwick Seaview year after year and it never fails to disappoint. The views across the Tweed and into Berwick make it for us, watching the tide rise and fall. Almost every pitch has a sea view. The trainline has never bothered us, most trains are electric. We can’t wait to return later in the year. Book early as it is a very popular site.
