We were very disappointed with this site; it was quite hard to get into up a very steep slope. The first pitch we were offered was so sloping as to be unusable, even with our ramps, so we asked if we could be moved. We were then given another pitch which was much better, but as far from the facilities as it could possibly be, and right underneath the East Coast Main Line, so trains were roaring past every few minutes. Not what I hoped for after a tiring day!
What a shower
We ask very little from club sites. The facilities on this one are pretty dated and it’s a long way from one end of the site to the toilet block. Never mind though.
What I do take issue with is a barely warm shower. To make it worse there was a sticker on the shower wall warning of very hot water. Some chance. Shower was just about usable.
Surely a hot shower isn’t too much to ask?
Loved this site - Wished we stayed longer
We loved the location of this site, with the possibility of so many beautiful walks. Unfortunately we were only staying 1 night but we will return. We inadvertently parked right in front of the train line but didn’t mind and I actually quite enjoyed the trains whizzing past. They did sound louder from inside the van but we never heard them during the night. I also enjoyed the chiming of the church bells every hour. Apart from this noise the site was very quiet. It appeared that all of the pitches had some type of sea view, some better than others. We managed to find a pitch with a view through the trees on 2 sides. The access to the site was ok but very busy when we arrived just after 1. We were let through and asked to return later to check in so didn’t wait too long. Definitely on our return list.
Mixed Emotions - Trains and Scrambers or Tremendous Views and Location - You Decide
Just got back from 11 nights stay on pitch 69. To start we tried a grass pitch but were unable to get the caravan level (and we are experienced). After several attempts we moved along the narrow cul-de-sac to pitch 69 and levelled up nose into the hedge with what looked like a good view - unfortunately once inside the view was obscured by the hedge which was low for many of the other pitches but not this one. We did ask if it could be cut but received a few different reasons from birds nesting to we might image your van - all valid. We then tried to erect our awning but before we had it out we were told check the ground - good advice as totally compacted. I revisited the wardens again but although aware of the problem they had only 3 "special" pegs left, which wasn't enough. So off to Go Outdoors along the road and they sold me some super-cannot-fail heavy duty screw pegs - Unfortunately they wouldn't go in either. Finally a very big hammer was used and still no joy. Result was no awning and we had to make do with a lightweight canopy, which given the superb weather worked out quite well. Not a great start but then the trains cam past - NER mainline, local commuters and loud thundering long freight trains - better than an alarm clock! ...yes there's more on some nights there is a local speedway meet and the stadium bikes can be heard for hours on end - at least it drowned out the locals playing football on the pitch in front of the site.
To balance what some might think is a negative start, the views across the estuary are simply magnificent. The walk into town is about 20-25 mins of easy level walking (other than the site approach). The site can likewise be seen from the town. From both viewpoints the scenery is amazing and the walls and history of the town is amazing. Having good weather allowed for some great walks around the city, along the river and up and over the cliffs on foot and NCN 1 which goes towards Holy Island and Lindisfarne.
The site is tight in places but in all fairness the stewards did warn us on arrival to be aware of the different pitch lengths. Can be quite tricky if you get stuck in one of the cul-de-sacs. Plenty of facilities around the site for water etc. The only "observation" I have is that the yellow wrist band system is simply not understood by many. Some don't get the idea of using only a sanitised one, others collect one on the board and take it in with them. Some say leave yours as they enter as I left. One man even took a yellow band off the hook put it in his pocket and walked off stating he had one for next-time!! Consequently none knew if there were people in the showers, cubicles or at the urinals. Most did were a mask but when you need to go you just have to go!!!
Would we go back - YES. The positives do outlay the negatives and after a day or 2 you stop hearing the background noises - For shorter stays well you will have to decided that for yourselves.
Disappointed- High Speed Trains!
If your idea of holiday is spending it 15 feet away from the East Coast Main Line from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh, then this is the place for you. The trains run from 6am to 11pm, every 10mins or so (sometimes 2 at the same time) and heavy freight trains run during the day and in the middle of the night. The regular train at 3:30 am felt more like an earth tremor. It must be a deliberate decision by CAMC to omit this massive white elephant from their site description.
The toilet block is outdated and in need of refurbishment, given what CAMC now charge us, there should be plenty in the coffers to do this. The site is cramped and the access road narrow, meaning to get on and off a pitch you have to pull a good way onto the pitch in front of you to manoeuvre which is hardly fair. Don’t try to leave or enter the site between 1230 and 1400 as it is a single track in and out when new outfits are arriving.
The Covid regulations put in place by CAMC don’t work. Only 3 people were allowed in the toilet block at once without any distinction between those using the shower and those just wanting the loo. If you time it wrong you could and up waiting 30mins for the loo! No where else in the country(other than CAMC campsites) have we come across a rule with only allows 2 or 3 people in a public toilet, so why should it apply when we have to pay £30 ish per night for the privilege?
All in all, we won’t revisit this site. OK it has a sea view, but that doesn’t make up for the rest of its short comings.
First Time - We will be back
Journey from hell! Only 2 1/2 hours from home to site but accident on A1 saw us 5 1/2 hours to site. We called to inform of our lateness and wardens as ever were amazing! Arrived 20 mins after 2000hrs but still greeted with a warm smile. Sent to the LAST pitch on site (not good pitch lol) but told we could move in the morning as many were leaving.
Saturday morning moved to a great pitch. Super helpful wardens.
Good points - Easy access to beach, small shop, and town is a lovely walk. Views with a sea view are stunning! TV signal was great and 4G on O2 network with 5 bars.
Not so good - Needs at least 1 more service point. Very few pitches have a sea view! we were lucky to move to one that did, but many pitches have a tree view or a view of the toilet block etc.
Access to site is very easy and although confusing at first the one way system works well. Toilet block was immaculate, although as ever it suffers with those amongst use that don't know how to use the loo brush!!!
Sea Fog (Fret)! Be warned, this part of the country suffers with sea fog. We were there during the scorching BH weeknd with coats on! 5 miles inland the sun was splitting the sky. Check the forecast :).
Anyway - Fantastic site in an amazing location. Superb wardens and views (When the sun is out) to die for.
Safe travels all.
Overnight stay town of birth
Wanted to visit Berwick as was born in the town and hadn’t visited since I was small boy. Site is very organised and clean. On arrival Edgar was very efficient getting vans cleared away from entrance as we obviously were all there at 1pm. Got pitch and reported back to office. Wardens were friendly throughout and very helpful with advice on how to walk into town. Site itself was great. Wee bit of noise from main train line but not enough to spoil visit. Toilets and all other facilities no issues and all clean. Only problem is other patrons who really don’t get this band thing. What they find so hard I do not know but they don’t get it. Or it maybe they are choosing not to follow the regs. It is happening in all club sites I have discovered since. If you’re walking to town centre it’s a bit of a walk as footbridge is being refurbed. But once in town I was pleasantly surprised how nice it is. Looks s of pubs shops and cafes that all looked really nice. Very historical too. Lovely wee place. Not much in Spittal where site is but there is a fantastic beach to walk on. So all in all very enjoyable stopover and site is great. Certainly will return.
Great site
First time at this site and what a treat to sit in the van and watch the sea whilst having breakfast, it was a 20 minute walk into Berwick upon tweed (watch out for seagull poop), and a 10min walk to Asda, a note of caution, Please be careful on the incline to the site from the road as units with a long overhang may scrape?.

Excellent site.
Love this site. Well maintained, very pleasant and helpful staff and wonderful views. Yes, Spittal itself is perhaps a bit less than 'picture postcard' perfect – it’s had a hardworking past but there are many interesting properties and parks to see and the views out to sea from the promenade are absolutely super - particularly if the weather is a bit brisk. Fortes ice cream from the van on the promenade or at the car parks is as good as it gets. There is always Berwick next door ( free parking all day in the main car park) and the wonderful North Sea to look at and paddle in. From our site position, we had a 140degree vista from the Berwick bridges to the left, past the estuary and around right to the full ocean - nothing like it. Have seen seals underneath the Berwick bridge responding to whistles and calls and lots of swans in the estuary – haven’t seen dolphins here yet but this year saw them just off Seahouses harbour, racing beside a boat and leaping clear out of the water – wonderful!. Several beaches within reach with lovely clean sand and Rocky pools a-plenty. We love this area - have been visiting for 50 years and still not seen everything. We will be coming back - until we drop. Would really prefer to discourage people from coming so we can have it to ourselves but we have reviewed it as we see
Great site - let down by dodgy hookups
Great site, quiet and easy access to beach for dog walking. Noise from trains is not intrusive. Have started my season here every March for the last 3 years (April this year). Local pub, just across from site very welcoming (not currently open due to Covid), and dogs welcome. Beer a lot cheaper than tourist spots down the coast. Fabulous beaches in easy reach. Nice villages and pubs in countryside if you like exploring.
Beware of dodgy hookups. Last year the transformer blew and I had to move to Barnard Castle, the week before lockdown. The staff had no idea when the electrics would be up and running. Luckily it was the first week of the season and only about 7 vans on site.
This year, for first 3 days of my 9 night stay hookups intermittent. Obviously issues with faulty equipment that needs addressing.
Well worth visiting.
