Nice site

A nice site in a nice area, local walks on 1066 trail and into local village which has a nice pub The White Hart which is worth a visit. Trip out to Battle and Hastings - especially old town Hastings - both worth a visit, and a bit further afield Rye is a lovely quaint village to visit as is Winchelsea Beach. Site is maintained well although not as well as some CAMC sites. Some of the roads have potholes and we were there a week and the grass by our pitch wasn’t cut in that time. Toilets and laundry room all very clean. We had a super pitch so no problem locating an available pitch: if you book on a standard pitch I second the review below which advises you walk around before choosing your pitch. Lots of dead ends which may be hard to manoeuvre a caravan or motorbike back out of! The charm of the site is the layout, not rows of outfits but lots of little private areas.

Needs pitch allocations when running at full capacity!

On arrival queuing as everyone it appeared checking in at 1 to 1.30. We were given the choice of several pitches however so was everyone else and basically everyone was driving round and round the same parts looking for the available pitches and then forgetting to return to the office to tell the wardens which one they had eventually decided to choose. It was like a supermarket sweep! and this was a Wednesday mid week!. The problem being the site was fully booked and obviously due to wet weather the grass pitches were out of commission sadly. The warden advised that members had chosen to opt for where they wanted to pitch, however this may be workable when sites are not at full capacity but when they are I feel that the pitches should be allocated on arrival. The site is a clean and set in a perfect location and apart from the front carpark type pitches the rest were all good therefore people do not need a choice at this site! the covid cleaning in regard to closure of toilets worked well with keeping one set open. Would visit again, hopefully not sooo busy!

Nice site

First bit of advice would be to walk around to find your pitch, there are several dead ends and some pitches are awkward to reach. Some are quite dark and have quite a slope but overall a nice site. We were in the Stable area which is secluded and quiet, there were overhanging trees that required careful parking of our motorhome to avoid squeaking branches hitting the roof, however these pitches are nice and a suntrap. The wardens were, as always, helpful and friendly.

Interesting site

Unfortunately we only had a one night stop here. It's a lovely site with old steps from the gardens still in situ. It's located just off the road into Battle but it was very quiet at night. It's not a road to walk along into Battle as there are no paths. However the 1066 footpath has easy access from the site and is an excellent path. We enjoyed walking along it. We visited Battle Abbey (don't use the NT parking in a motorhome! It was full and it's not easy to get around it. Instead we parked at the market place car park). This is well worth visiting. Two sets of facilites which were very clean and the wristband system seemed to be working well.

Difficult site to negotiate on arrival

We have just spent 2 weeks here. It is a very peaceful site and extremely well maintained. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Plenty of walks in the area. Several National Trust properties within easy travelling distance. The only down side is that it is a very difficult site to negotiate when trying to find a pitch with a caravan in tow. This was our first visit, it might be easier if we visit again.

Another Great Stay

Stayed again at Normanhurst (third visit), the site is maintained extremely well and has all facilities required. There are good walks from the site on the 1066 trail. I have to thank Kevin and Jill, the wardens, for refunding a night stay due to change of plans (an unwell grand child!), very unexpected and much appreciated.

Great site

In a good location to walk to Battle Abbey, approx one and half hours on the 1066 walk, well worth visiting interesting place, The White Hart pub on the way or way back is worth a visit aswell. The site has good sized pitches and good positioning and shower block is modern and clean. The site overall is spotless will visit again if up this way.

Happy together

Weather dreadful - site beautiful

Just spent 12 nights at this, one of our favourite sites. The weather was very cold wet and windy but the site looked wonderful with the rhododendrons coming into flower and the amazing trees. We used our own facilities so I cannot comment on the shower blocks. Despite the weather the rabbits were a constant amusement chasing each other all round the pitches and the spotted woodpecker was a frequent visitor. My only comment on the facilities would be that I would not pay for WiFi here again - there is only a ‘hotspot’ near the reception as explained in the site details. Hope you all have a brilliant season and thank you for having us Chris & Robin
