Easter 2018 at BW was abysmal weather, 2019 was glorious.
We managed a great pitch, 41, with ample room to make full use of the Cadac and entertain family visitors over the Bank Holiday weekend. Arrival saw a car and bicycles on the pitch after 12 noon, which seemed odd. Surely not a ploy to save a pitch for later arrivals???
The motor mover packed up, so assistance to push back was appreciated from fellow campers. After a quick set up and awning erection we popped out for provisions. As we enjoyed a cuppa in the sun, neighbouring campers popped over to point out water was leaking from the rear of the caravan where it shouldn't. Great. More problems with our flagship heap of thrown together poor quality common parts masquerading as a caravan. Dismantling the rear washroom cupboards, trims and wall boards found the heating pipework fins had pushed apart the hot water feed pipe 'y' junction where it feeds the wash basin and shower, as witness marks showed. It was commented that caravans have a 10 year warranty such that it takes 10 years to sort out all the faults inbuilt at the circus where they are thrown together. Fortunately a toolbox is part of our basics since changing to a caravan. Although I prefer to spend valuable holiday time not repairing our city apartment on wheels as it is for BW.
A BBQ and alcohol in the evening sunset put the day's events behind us.
Friday saw us stroll around the floating harbour with a visit to the M Shed that is free entry. Another BBQ in the evening with family ended a glorious day.
Saturday is the day we take surviving parent out to mark others passing. We went to Weston Super Mare, parking near the old pier, that is fundraising to rebuild. A walk around the front, across water to the main pier for fish and chips, followed by ice cream on the promenade at £1.40 for a large '99', £1 for a large mug of tea at a table.
Sunday started with a visit to Brunel's Buttery, just beyond the SS Great Britain for breakfast in the sun with other family members. Visit to the garden of rest at the crematorium to pay respects. A circular walk for gelato in millennium square and a stop off for a pint in the Pump House was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon and evening. Awning packed smaller than ever before ready for trip home following day.
The view from the crem takes in the Suspension Bridge, Clifton, multi coloured houses, Cabot Tower, Wills Museum round to the football ground, all landmarks of Bristol that mean something to us. A great city to visit anytime.
We are booked in a couple more times in the next year to make the most whilst BW is available.
No discernible growth in the crack in the rear panel of the caravan that is due for repair at its next service in the summer.
Ok but not safe
We have been at Baltic Wharf for three nights and really enjoyed it but last night Saturday 13th April my husband had his electric bike stolen. It was padlocked , no battery or computer on it and they didn’t steal the other bike. We were also told by a fellow caravaner that the back gate can be opened with a credit card and yes it can. So please be careful with your property when you stay here. We have informed the wardens and emailed the club. The club have CCTV at the front gate but none on the back so we have asked them to look at improving security. This has left us very upset and vulnerable and we will not be coming back.
One Night in Bristol
We had booked two nights but due to a family issue had to cut short the trip, and found the site very accommodating and ideally placed which made getting there simple and afforded easy access to the centre of Bristol or Clifton. Top marks for the secure gate allowing access to the waterfront walkway and nearby hostelry which was very welcoming and offered good food though the gluten-free selection was abysmal. We will certainly be back to the site as we need to explore further and make use of the SS Great Britain tickets purchased for our second day. Besides this there's loads of things to see within easy walking distance.
Another Great Stay.
Due to hospital appointment really grateful to Christian that he could move booking a few days forward.Need to take every chance to visit Bristol and this site.Choice of pitch, not by the water but level and ne
ar bollard. All facilities as to be expected.pick your time for a shower and you shouldn't have to wait.
Buses changed once we got hang of tickets (I pay, hubby has a pass).got ticket for all day so used it up and down Park St as well as into city.Runs later than previous ones so will be handy in th summer.
Still good value meals at local pub,but busy so I'll keep which one to myself. The Cottage next would be okay if you didn't want to walk far.
Underfall yard worth a look round, although Pickle café shuts when it likes so don't rely on it.
Its really short sighted of the council not to appreciate value this site brings to the city.Should be kept open .
Looking forward to next visit.
Great location
Great location for visiting Bristol, especially with the water taxi stop just outside the site. Facilities clean and showers hot. The site was clean and the guys in reception where very friendly and helpful. The one issue I had was that the waste water drain is on the way in, where everyone parks to book in, therefore when we were leaving we couldn’t empty our waste water as there were 4 vans-caravans parked on the drain, so don’t try to leave peak time (just before 12) as you wont stand a chance or even get out as they block the entrance/exit queueing to check in.
First visit but not overly impressed
Stayed for 3 nights after travelling from Portsmouth ferry after a 3 week France trip. Firstlying we wanted to do our washing only to find the front loading machine was broken with a top loading machine next to it. I might as well have washed our clothes in the river as top loaders do not clean clothes thoroughly so we did not use it.
Only 3 showers and toilets per block, plainly not enough for 56 pitches. I realise it may close down due to leases but more amenities should have been included when first built.
Only one chemical dump also.
Pitches seem smaller too.
Handy for the ferry into the city.
One point.... why do most CMC sites have fresh water taps at MWPs on the wrong side for UK vans ?
We have been to numerous club sites in 9 years but this is my least favourite.
Great site, shame it will close in the near future.
Just spent the weekend here great site, shame it is so difficult to get into. Only disappointing bit this year was the Christmas decorations, for several years they have had it done out lovely with lights, this year there was hardly anything and not very Christmassy at all. Merry Christmas to everyone, enjoy this site while you still can.
Perfect site
Just had 4 nights at Baltic Wharf and I can honestly say this is my favourite site in the club .
So handy for so many places in the area Bristol is easily accessible either by walking on river bank or by ferry outside camp site .
It is so easy to see why the council want to to develop this site as it has perfect acces to the water front.
Facilities are in need of up date but they are spotlessly clean.
Keep up the good work Baltic Wharf.

Possibly my favourite club site?
I always enjoy my visits to Baltic Wharf, it’s such a special part of Bristol, and being central to all the facilities of an attractive and vibrant city is a big plus. It’s worth mentioning that the bus services from the site along the Cumberland Road have improved hugely recently, with the m3 metrobus offering a frequent service into the city centre and shops, and similarly the A1 to Temple Meads Station. And thankfully the metrobus roadworks are mostly finished now, at least on Cumberland Road. Once parked up it’s easy to leave your vehicle on site.
Despite the slightly outdated facilities block (due to the threat of the site being redeveloped by the council) it has always been kept spotlessly clean on all of my visits, and both the summer and winter wardens have been ever attentive and helpful. Okay, so some of the pitches are a tad cramped, but that means more of us can get to stay here. And I appreciate that the gates are locked at night, which as a solo traveller makes me feel safe and secure.
I just hope the Club has noticed that this is a very, very, popular site, and will continue to fight to keep it. The trend in “holidays”, as the Club magazine quaintly calls them, has changed. Members no longer want to be always beside the seaside or up a mountain, and they want to travel all year. The Club needs more of these cosmopolitan sites.
What A Gem.
We finally managed to get on this site 👍🏻 Initially we were a bit disappointed with it’s ‘car park’ appearance compared to all other club sites we’ve visited, but it more than compensates through its superb city location. The wardens were very helpful & kept the site as clean as any we’ve been to.
