What a shame!!!!

Beautiful site in fabulous location for us. But be warned - this site is used and abused by travellers! They stay there in droves, making noise and mess and disrupting the peace and quiet. Get rid of them permanently and the site would be full not over half empty in august!!!!! Will not return or recommend until they have permanently gone never to return!!

Lovely peaceful site

We stayed here in a glamping pod in May and in our VW campervan in August with friends who have a caravan. Both visits were great. The pitch we had in August was on grass with ample space even with our awning. The hard standing pitches seemed more compact. We walked to The Fox pub twice during our stay and had a lovely Sunday lunch for 8 of us. The walk was all through beautiful countryside. The staff were always friendly and helpful and made a point of saying hello whenever they were around, despite their ongoing work.

Excellent stay in a lovely rural setting

We had a very relaxed and enjoyable weekend (3-5 September) stay at this well laid out rural site. The wardens were very friendly and welcoming and made our stay relaxed and enjoyable. The facilities were spotless. We enjoyed the detailed walks that had been printed by the wardens and visited places we would not otherwise have found. We had been rather alarmed by some of the previous reviews but have to say we did not experience any behaviour of this type during our stay. We have no hesitation in suggesting a stay at the site and hope to return next year.

Will definitely return

Our first stay on this site and, despite reading some other not so favourable reviews from the same period we stayed, I must say we didn’t experience the same. I can only say that the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the site was clean and well maintained. We had a lovely stay with our 5 year old granddaughter and the lower wooden play park was great for her. I don’t think we were pitched by the travellers so didn’t have any issues as detailed in other reviews. We were aware there were some travellers on site though. We really liked this site, the walks in the surrounding area were great. Particularly liked the one to ‘The Fox’. Will remember next time to book a table for dinner, the roast looked amazing. Lovely pub to visit, will def have a nice winter walk there. We will def be returning to the site, please don’t be put off xxx

Such a shame what is happening at this site.

Having read the reviews and comments regarding disruptive 'neighbours' we had some reservations about our stay and on the third night of our stay, a few minutes before 8pm a large LMC twin axle caravan arrived on site, towed by a commercial transit van with company logos and advertising, there was also a campervan and a silver Mercedes car, the party were Travellers. The following evening the same commercial transit van towed on another caravan, a Hobby this time, during our stay the campervan moved pitches three times to get closer to the caravan as others around them left. Overall, the noise levels at night were fine, all quiet after 11pm, but during the day lots shouting, driving vehicles in the wrong direction, parking vehicles in the main access route through the site making it difficult for others to access this part of the site, especially towing a caravan and large motorhomes. I thought the club allowed one vehicle per pitch, not the case if you were part of the Traveller group it would seem, they parked wherever. On Bank Holiday Sunday the whole of the group went out around midday, leaving their small, very young dog alone and outside the caravan. The dog was not tethered, and it wasn't until about 4pm we this as she came to say hello to our little dog, we tried to get her to stay on their pitch with the caravan, but she clearly was distressed and she was scratching to get into their caravan. Various children and adults rallied around to keep an eye on the poor little dog as she was standing in the road a lot and she even wandered across to the bottom camping field from the top part of the site, which is a considerable distance. A kind neighbour took the dog in before dark and waited for the traveller party to return, which was around 8.45pm so the dog had been left alone, outside, untethered with no food or water for approximately 8 hours. In hindsight we could have reported this situation to the RSPCA as the site wardens said they were unable to take her into their compound. The CAMC has clear site rules about many things in particular pets (dogs) and leaving them unattended is breach of these rules, as it not tying the dog up on a lead. We completely support inclusivity and diversity as this is very close to our hearts, as my partner and I have in the past experienced discrimination and verbal abuse. The issues we have with (as I am sure a lot of other members do) the situation is the blatant disregard to the site rules, general lack of respect, awareness of the environment, basic manners and showing respect to others. This review is in no way about the discriminative treatment of minority groups. Come on CAMC please take these reviews seriously and be proud in making a difference and making your sites safe spaces where both members and non-members can get to enjoy the great outdoors, rather than feeling somewhat threatened by other site users who seem set to make Alderstead Heath an unpleasant experience these days.

Could be fantastic if only......!!!

Oh what a shame!! I was looking forward to visiting this site as its relatively close to home and good for just a weekend away. The site itself is beautiful. Well laid out and well kept, and nothing like some of the more uniform 'car park' style club sites. Wardens lovely and welcoming and close to shops / pubs etc. HOWEVER.....just don't bother with this one.....I wish I had read the reviews and was aware of the traveller problem. We clearly chose a time they were washing everything down to carpets and spent their time hanging out at the facilities or speeding around the site ferrying loads of laundry to and from their vans. The kids were left to play out well up to 11pm (no I have nothing against kids playing but I do object to continual screaming and swearing). What a shame the clubs response to the complaints reviews is that they have to be inclusive....well of course they do.... but why do they have to be inclusive to disruptive noisy guests and ignore the needs of the members who wouldn't dream of acting in anti-social ways. What makes them more important than everyone else? Because although they were a minority, they definitely upset the majority. Are we now members of a club that's afraid of enforcing the rules to those that ignore them? I'd be interested in a club reply....if you still insist these anti social rule-breakers are ok to stay at this site, I'd like a refund for my joyless weekend!

Comment from the Club

Thank you for your review. We have lots of new members joining the Club and we are helping them to understand the Club rules. Where these are not being followed and if the staff do receive reports of any unfair behaviour, they do speak with those involved and monitor the situation.

Difficult to return

This site used to be a hidden gem, sadly, through no fault of the wardens, it's become a no go site for us. As others have said, the traveller community that frequent the site are spoiling the tranquility and safety at the site. We will miss the place but it's no longer acceptable that the club allow this to continue, they may be members but they certainly don't behave like members. Also, the loophole that allows some members to circumnavigate the 21 night rule needs to be closed, it's unfair in the majority that play by the rules.

Used to be a great site but spoilt

We've been coming to this site for over 20 years which speaks for itself. It's usually a great site. However this time the top toilet block was surrounded by a large number of travellers vans whose kids had been left to run riot, using it as a playground. Clearly the wardens are being put in an inenviable position as it seems there's little they can do. It used to be a nice clean site for a quiet break, but I really can't see a reason to want to ever come back.

Very dissatisfied

Very disappointed with our latest stay, have been coming to this site for over ten years and to say it has gone downhill in the last two years is an understatement. Just come back from this noisy unclean site, now seems to be taken over by travellers/tinkers who like to sit outside drinking and shouting to each other through the night, children run wild, they all, adults and children alike have no respect for your space and frequently walk across your site, they ignore speed limits and the one way system, seemingly thinking the rules don’t apply to them. Litter is just thrown down. Also the wardens do not seem to care about individual sites, several of the hard standings are now covered with grass and moss making the whole site look very shoddy and unkempt, let’s hope this site soon gets rid of the undesirables and returns to being a nice quiet pleasant place again.

Visiting Family and Friends

Just back from a lovely stay at Alderstead Heath. What a lovely well maintained campsite. Very clean and tidy and staff were extremely friendly and helpful, even during Covid times. A very well spaced out campsite, with beautiful surroundings and so quiet, even though we were close to the M25/M23, we could not hear either of them. Would definitely recommend this campsite to friends and we will be returning to this site again, as it is in a perfect spot for visiting family and friends, with easy access to and from the campsite, as long as you don’t go down Dean Lane. The only downside is that there is no shop on site, otherwise we had a wonderful 11 days there in our Motorhome with our Dog. Thank you to all the staff for making us so welcome, we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
