This was our first visit to this site and we were impressed by the cleanliness and lovely flower displays. It is a good place to relax. We can recommend a walk down the promenade to the boathouse in Brecon if you have a dog. Near the boathouse is a café with outside tables where dogs are welcome and a little further on is a large grassy area where dogs can run free. We enjoyed a run over the Brecon Beacons in the motorhome on a Saturday , spectacular views. easy to park in Merthyr even on market day (Saturday). We got 5 channels in on the tv which was good enough for us. We will return,
We've just had a lovely peaceful week at Aberbran. The site was kept quite clean and tidy by the wardens but we were surprised and disappointed there was no recycling on site. We rarely use the site toilets, etc so they were not missed by us. TV? Again, surprised it was analogue not digital. We had a good enough signal but there was very little to watch on the 5 channels available anyway. So we got the old DVD player out to watch the movies we'd been carrying around with us for years, we played scrabble and trivial pursuit and we read books.
On site we saw lots of small birds, squirrels and pheasants. There were some lovely wild flowers in the hedge behind the caravans.
We found plenty to do in the area. We were most surprised to find ourselves looking down on our caravan after taking the short walk from the National Park Visitor Centre! We went on the Brecon Mountain Railway (fantastic scenery), we went to the National Showcaves of Wales (amazing rock formations), we did the canal ride from Brecon (so peaceful) and we went to Bleanavon (it rained). The red kit feeding frenzy was brilliant - about 50 birds descended around the poor chap with a bucket of meat.
All in all we had a lovely week and would definitely go back if we are in the area again.
Lovely sire surrounded by countryside and birdsong including raucous rooks each dusk and dawn.
Occasional raucous vehicle movements from the wardens site early one morning rather annoying as was the lack of recycling and no tv reception despite saying 'good' and 'digital'.....poor and analogue was the reality.
Great walking area and National Centre just a few miles away.
Pleased to say it's rubbish for kids and great for dogs! But please dog owners, play the game and keep your pets on a lead and clean up after them....yes that means all of us!
Access to this delightful site is not difficult. A wide sweeping junction takes you off the A40 into a wide single track road. Two small privately owned sites are passed as you cross over the River Usk before you arrive at the CC site within a mile.
The narrow sloping drive takes you up to the reception hut. Booking in was efficient and pitches vary in size, the ones with the most difficult access being sited on the old platform.
The site has no facilities block, but at £12.50 per night (2015), represents excellent value for money.
CEP, waste drain, water tap and bins are all to CC standards.
This is a very peaceful site with little noise or light pollution at night. The only noise coming from the sheep and lambs bleating in the adjacent field.
There is a tidy dog walk on site that is adequate for early mornings and late evenings.
No shop on site, the nearest being in Sennybridge or Brecon for a choice of supermarkets.
