A very satisfying return visit to an outstanding London site.

Our second visit to this ideally located site for central and south London, this time in a Motorhome rather than a caravan as before. Given its urban situation, the site is remarkably quiet and the landscaping and surrounding trees give it a surprisingly rural feel. No road noise, only aeroplanes providing any distraction. Although the development work was ongoing, this did not impose and we had no issue with unwanted strangers reported previously. The one toilet/shower block was impeccably clean and in good order, with no lack of hot water - and was a haven of warmth in the snow and bitter cold (from the Beast from the East version 2). In fact the snow was more decorative than a problem, with the roads and hard-standing safe and snow freeze. The staff were all cheerful, welcoming and helpful. This site is a real gem and we will be back.

Excellent facilities

Very pleased to find showers that had good water pressure, plenty of hanging hooks and grab rails. These are all things sadly lacking in many other Club sites. A lot of showers have such poor water pressure that your head is up against the hot water pipe trying to get under the shower head to get wet. Many people who stay on club sites maybe getting older or have a few aches and pains so the grab rail was a welcome addition. These are basic facilities that all Club sites should provide.

What a "gem" this site is !!

The staff at this site clearly have a very good insight into what their customers want. Their welcome is informative, friendly and fuss-free. The site is like a hidden gem surrounded by woodland but in the middle of a very, dense built up housing area. The site offers a very quiet, calm ambience and even in high season, i imagine it would be still be the same. It is also spotlessly clean and the staff are very visible and on hand. One particular observation was the notices around the site. They weren't at all aggressive as in "don't do this" "don't do that". They highlighted rules with a "please" "thank you" "sorry" and even a "see you in the morning" on the late arrivals entrance. This makes customers feel welcome and not like intruders. It is in a great location for visiting London and the surrounding areas. There are some developments happening which will only enhance this wonderful site further and they offer very modern cabins, huts etc at great prices. I would definitely recommend this site, especially if you are visiting the city.

Excellent Stay

We stayed here recently for two nights. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left the site staff were very helpful and friendly. The entire site is really clean, tidy and well laid out with all the facilities you would need and it has the added advantage of being only a few minutes walk to the station in order to get in and out of London. Also there are some lovely woods just across the road for the dogs to run around.

Abbey Wood in the Snow!

This is the first time I've stayed on the Abbey Wood site, although I'm well aware of the sites existance as I used to live within 200yds of it. I arrived on Tuesday 27th Feb after a somewhat snowy, including blizard conditions on the M23 & M25, drive up from West Sussex. As always with club site, I was greeted with a welcoming smile. The site was covered in snow & pitching up was cold, to say the least! As the site was still undergoing major re-construction, pitch availability (there was no real shortage of available pitches) was limited, as was the shower blocks, as 1 one closed due to the re-furbishment of the site. The only problem that I encountered was that both my onboard shower & bathroom sink drain pipes were blocked due to water in them freezing over, but a liberal dose of table salt down the respective plugholes soon cured that. All in all a very pleasant stay on the site, even though the weather conditions were somewhat adverse! But even the weather didn't dampen the wardens friendlyness & enthusiasm, a well deseved "well done" to them all.

Lovely Site

Just returned from another visit to Abbeywood. It coincided with the snowy weather. As usual a very nice welcome even though we were late getting there due to th M1 being blocked. Always a lovely peaceful site and welcoming friendly staff. The only niggle was the road from the office to the pitches had not been gritted and we struggled to get the car and caravan up the gradient. I guess the Caravan Club didn't provide grit and salt to do the roads. The gentleman who was on duty did help bring salt and shovels and helped us get to a pitch, which we much appreciated. Just couldn't understand why grit hadn't been put down. We were not the only ones who had trouble getting up the slope. This is not a slur on the staff, but maybe the Caravan Club hierarchy could take note for next year. Thank you to the all the Staff doing a good job in trying circumstances. Yvonne Bell Club Member

Staying on ouskirts of London city centre

Just arrived back from another great visit to Abbey Wood camp site, which is undergoing improvements at the moment, which did not affect us at all. We heard the Parakeets first thing in the morning, strange to see exotic birds flying free. So easy to get into central London, via the train from Abbey Wood, it takes you to Charing Cross, which is a short walk from Leicester Square.

Excellent 3 night stay 20 to 23rd Feb 2018

This site is brilliantly located for public transport into central London. Clean, quiet with warm shower block and roomy showers, this wooded site is an oasis of calm. We listened to a woodpecker early in the morning - a surprise in such a built up area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not notice the issues regarding atmosphere on the site commented on by another reviewer. However, we agree that a pass to open the pedestrian after hours gate would be a sensible security measure.

Another visit to Abbeywood Site

We have visited this site over a number of years and this visit had a strange atmoshere about it. It might have been the number of “ strangers” around, due to the works being carried out, or the number of empty outfits on the pitches or the site being partially closed off. There were definately some visitors who were not there for a holiday or short break because of the state of the outfits and the coming and going in various vehicles picking up and dropping people off at all hours. Not a pleasant feel. Still for all that the site is at last having a bit of a makeover. The facilities blocks could do with a smarten up and a deep clean at the very least. I noticed they were not being actually physically cleaned daily although the blocks were locked to prevent entry. Not sure what this was about. The site is used by many tourists in the peak months for visits to the capital and really needs to up its game. Its very expensieve to stayhere but no special pitches or facilities to show for it. We will continue to use the site as a base for our at least twice yearly trips to this area as it is convenient for what we need and there is no where else. Abbeywood site itself is convenient for rail and bus to many areas and with crossrail open soon will be even more so. We actually like this site overall, but it could be much better if the club were to make it members only, tighten up on security that is actually in place but not adhered or used. I refer to the keypad lock on the gate for pedestrians which used to be usedbut for some unknown reason is no longer. Finally employ wardens who REALLY want to manage this large site and make it something they are proud of and believe in, a team here is needed..........

Pleasant Site in the middle of suburban London

Lovely peaceful wooded site with excellent rail link into central London nearby. Faultless facilities and great friendly wardens. Loved the many green parakeets! Much development work afoot but did not impinge on our short stay.
