Basic and facilities need a rethink

As others have said, we got a warm welcome from the site owner and her dog. We stayed here a few years ago when starting to walk the Thames Path, and it served a purpose then for a couple of nights' stay. This time we stayed for 4 nights to explore the local area a bit more - the many lakes of the Cotswold Wildlife Park are great for walking around and wildlife watching, and nearby historic towns like Cricklade and Lechlade are well worth a visit. The site is certainly basic, but for £12 a night including electric hook-up (2024 price), maybe one shouldn't be too critical. However, we noted the following issues during our stay: The fresh water point is a rusty old tap in a ramshackle shed - it would have been more hygienic on an external wall. The waste and recycling facilities are a bit hit-and-miss, and the single EHU point for the whole site is fed by a catenary wire overhead. A number of 3-way power adapters are plugged in to this point, to provide electricity to each user; this could potentially cause overload problems. More worrying still is the chemical waste emptying point, which has a large horizontal plastic pipe feeding into a metal tank. It's impossible to empty a waste holding container into the pipe without spilling some of the contents on the ground, and also on your shoes...lovely! I reported this issue in particular to the owner, so hopefully something will be done to improve matters soon. Oh, and one more thing.....there were several 'permanent residents' in old caravans in evidence during our stay; I suspect they weren't abiding by the 30-day rule! Apart from the above-mentioned issues, we quite enjoyed our stay, believe it or not!
