Shropshire Uncovered

Whiston Mill Farm is a very pleasant base for exploring this beautiful part of Shropshire. The site has a rather uneven grassy area in front of the owner’s house, but also a large, mostly flat fenced field which is used as an overflow area. This is where we stayed and it was perfect, especially as it was right next to some disused farm buildings containing a rather fifties-style but charming sitting room with an electric shower cubicle attached, next to a proper WC. These provide extra and most welcome facilities not usual on a CL. And the owner Mike charges only £12 per night, which is extremely reasonable. Some of the places to visit in the area: RAF Cosford Museum, or even the air show in June, which is barely 10 minutes away; Telford for supermarkets and shopping; Bridgnorth is a delightful, historic town with a cliff railway, riverside pubs, and a steam railway; and Ludlow, with its famous castle. And for local pubs, check out The Bell Inn at Tong – 2-for-1 main meals and really good steaks!

Cracking site for RAF museum

This a lovely site ideal for visiting Cosford aircraft museum - Which is why we stopped there. The air show was on a few days after we left and by all accounts this site is very good place to be for watching aerial displays. Made to feel very welcome. Occasionally hear the sounds of hounds in the distance - all part of the scenery
