Pretty and Recommended.
I arrived late and stressed after my sat nav for some mysterious sat-nav-y reason took me miles around on tiny roads. Ignore the sat nav and go via Manby, which is MUCH easier! There's also a handy co-op there, on the junction. Richard took pity on me after my slightly fraught phone call and came out to flag me down, and then to show me the pitch options and where things were on site. It had been very wet, so I opted for the hardstanding options - the first night on the tarmac tucked into a corner of the car park and the second night on the plastic mesh area, which gave me a nice outlook over the site.
The site is lovely - spacious with open views across a large field - and there is plenty of evidence of how much it is looked after with neat pitches, flower pots full of flowers about to burst into spring life, and tidy and clearly marked bins and chemical disposal point which are well screened from the pitches. There's also facilities room and toilet at the end of the little row of holiday cottages. Richard sent me the wifi code and the wifi signal was good and useable - not always the case on sites!
On my first morning before heading out for the day I did a short circular local walk out to the church, which was very enjoyable. The church is attractive and the churchyard full of snowdrops during my March stay! There are lots of other paths for slightly less wet days and longer walks.
Back on site the shower was clean and - after waiting as instructed - hot, and there's a washer and dryer which are coin operated. Useful for drying my wet towel etc as the weather wasn't conducive to drying stuff outside during my stay!
The board in the 'facilities' room could do with updating as quite a few of the notices etc were old and faded, but this may be because my stop was early in the season and the owners hadn't got round to doing this yet. The facilities themselves were excellent for a CL, and include things like a book swap and I noticed umbrellas and windbreaks which presumably could be borrowed with permission if needed.
Eggs and veg from the sites chickens and large veg plot were available and I bought six beautiful large eggs.
I was staying due to various commitments in the area, but travelling to them from the site was a joy as the local countryside is simply gorgeous.
I would definitely stay again. I knocked a star off 'peaceful' due to a nearby bird scarer which started at 6.30 am on the first day (but not the second), but that's not the site's fault and wasn't really a disturbance as I'm usually awake at 6. Ease of arrival lost a star due to my personal experience, but for anyone arriving via Manby this would be a five star rating.
Overall, strongly recommended.
