Wonderful site, fantastic views

We've now stayed here twice and wouldn't hesitate to return again. The site overlooks the ever changing vistas of the Pentland Firth, it's a really clean and very well maintained site, the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. There are great walks from the site to the Castle Mey area, as well as a beach where we saw seals on the rocks! The site is also very well positioned if you're getting the ferry from Gills Bay to St Margaret's Hope on Orkney.

Perfect.

There’s not much more that can be said about this perfect site, that other reviewers haven’t already said. Fantastic greeting on arrival. Well spaced and clearly marked pitches, each offering 16a ehu and water. Gravel roads and hard standings. Easy access to footpaths and attractions. But the views. Wow is all we can say! If only they were all to this standard. Thanks for providing a great CL.

Run out of superlatives

Spent 4 days in August just soaking up the views. Faultless. Lovely walks to the beach and other places of interests nearby. Unexpected bonus of secure dog exercising field on site. Such a friendly welcome from Jo and ever so helpful. Should be on your list of must visit sites.

Stunning CL

We enjoyed 6 nights on this site in early July 2022. Jo could not have made us feel more welcome. The site is immaculate and the views are stunning. The Castle of Mey is just 20 minutes walk or a few minutes drive away and a must to visit. Being just 2 miles from the ferry to Orkney gave us a chance to enjoy a wonderful day trip there. Thurso has all the amenities you need and to see the puffins flying from Dunnet Head was tremendous. We have a twin axle caravan and access was straight forward. Cannot rate this site highly enough. Thank you Jo and Karina.

Amazing CL

We have just returned from a four night stay at this fantastic well laid out fully serviced CL. The views over the Pentland Firth to Orkney are out of this world. Fortunately we were lucky to have some beautiful sunsets during our stay. Jo and Karina were very welcoming and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. The biggest problem was our short stay! Will we be back......Definitely,

Leave a space for me!

Should I recommend this site? It’s a conundrum because it’s beautiful but I want to be able to get on to it in future so shhhhh… it’s our secret. The owners couldn’t be more welcoming and are great fun. The views are stunning. It’s close to the NC500, the Pentland Ferry dock for Orkney, the Castle of Mey, John o’Groats and Dunnet Head. It’s a pleasant stroll to the secluded sand and rock beach. The sound of curlews, skylarks and oyster catchers enhanced our experience. It’s dog friendly with an enclosed secure dog field to let your pooch run off lead. The pitches are well laid out with ehu and water points. So a definite recommendation as long as you don’t take ‘our’ pitch when we want it.

Awesome Site!

Just left Crofter’s Snug today after a 3 night stay. It was difficult to drive away :( We had a fantastic welcome from the owners Jo and Karina, they couldn’t have been more helpful. The views across to the Orkney Islands are breathtaking. Certainly a unique location for a CL. It’s now on our favourite CL list. The site is having a little makeover and is looking good, it can only improve. We travelled in from the west (Thurso/Castetown) and used directions on their website satnav which proved really useful although the written website directions are very clear. All the information on the website is worth reading. We managed to cycle to both Dunnet Head and Castle of Mey with only a very short distance on the quiet road. A glorious CL.

Pitch perfect

We booked online which worked brilliantly. Everything confirmed in emails. The day before we arrived, a text message arrived with lots of information we needed to know. The in person greeting was lovely, Jo and Karina couldn’t have been more helpful and enthusiastic. The pitches are being improved this year and they were reseeding the grass when we came for our one night. I wish it was longer here as this area has much to explore and the view from the site is just unbelievable. We followed other’s advice and arrived from the east and had no problems accessing the site. If you want a quiet escape you won’t be disappointed here, it really is breath taking.

New Year 21 22

We stayed here hoping to see the Northern Lights but unfortunately that was not to be. We didn't meet the owners, due to a bereavment they had other things to deal with. This did not cause any problems as there's an information board at the entrance and the owners got back to us quickly by email when I asked questions. I could have answered the questions myself had I looked at the info board but the weather and failing light delayed that till the following morning. Lovely views over to Orkney, fantastic beach down the road at Dunnet. We had the site to ourselves most of our stay. There is water and drainage next to each pitch but our hose wasn't quite long enough to reach the middle of the back edge where our caravan water connection is so we just did it the old fashioned way. Again, not a problem. To make use of the mains water a longer hose is required. I think ours is 10M so a 15 or 20M hose is recommended. Approaching the site is probably best from the east, the Gills Bay/John O'Groats end. I could probably get in with my caravan through the wide entrance but it's much easier from the east.

Absolutely Fabulous

What a beautiful site. We were warmly welcomed by Jo on our arrival. We pitched facing the sea (you need ramps if you are in a van). The pitch was fully serviced with electricity, water and grey waste only feet away. The site is within easy reach of John O' Groats and Dunnet Head. We walked down to the beach which takes about 20mins. There we saw seals sunbathing and also cormorants and gannets diving for fish. Quite spectacular. Also nearby is East May Castle. We stayed two nights here and loved it. The views over to Orkney are beautiful. We will definitely stay here again on our next Highland trip.
