We stayed on this site in September 2024 and the site is beautiful, plenty of room and so peaceful.
The access road is narrow and could be an issue if two caravans met on some of the worst part but we didn’t face that issue.
The showers/toilets could really do with a refresh, both are tired and not the cleanest, no hand drying facilities in either toilet. Indeed, we wandered around the whole site before finding the showers/toilets, a couple of discrete signs wouldn’t have gone amiss.
There’s three pubs within a mile and half of the site, easy walking distance (The Railway Inn, The Star and The Woodborough Inn). We ate in all three and they all provide reasonable food at average prices. Obviously there’s plenty of cider on offer…
Overall, a lovely site that could benefit from a little work.
We used this site as an overnight on our way South to Devon. Narrow lane from road to Winscombe but quite short so no problems. Approach down driveway a little overgrown for our height of van…
Clearly signposted to touring area and instructions for pitching and contacting owners were fixed to the wall of a building. We wanted to pay cash so a pleasant young man came to collect the money once we rang them. £26.50 a night. Grass electric pitches sloping on the right of a pleasant, hedged field. Weather was sunny but we still sank a little into the ground but as on a slope, no issues. With our weight of van, would’ve definitely been an issue in the rain.
Location excellent with about a 30 minute walk to the pubs and shops of Winscombe.
We felt this site has great potential but sadly it felt a bit neglected. The pool area we didn’t want to use as it looked like it needed a good clean. Toilet/shower area likewise around the outside (toilet/shower was clean) I don’t mind rustic and natural but this tipped over into scruffy…and for the price it fell sadly short of acceptable. We didn’t use the shower or pool and there is no tennis court as advertised as it’s being demolished by the looks of it…
Can’t work out if the site is a work in progress or winding down…
We stayed in a beautiful rustic field with toilet last trip which was £15 and knocked spots off this.
Lovely location very peaceful, loads of room caravans or motorhomes. Swimming pool was great for adults and children on a hot bank holiday. Games room was also a extra treat. We had 2 caravans with 3 generations and 2 dogs great for everyone.
Great location for visiting Weston, Burnham area. Toilets and showers are a little walk. Will stay again.
Slightly confused on arrival when there were already 6 units on the field, ours making it 7! Thought Cl sites had a limit of 5?
Had to pitch on the left side which is better as it’s more level, but our electric lead didn’t reach to the other side where there are 10 EHU sockets, but after calling the office, the guy lent us an extension lead which was good.
Water tap is hard to get to if you have a motorhome, tucked away in a hedged area on the way in through the gate and it was very wet in the area, dark and slippery.
It’s a peaceful and relaxing site, surrounded by a row of trees/ hedges so no view, but still nice.
The swimming pool looked nice, but the area could have been a little cleaner and the shower and toilet block really did need a deep clean and the amount of cobwebs everywhere made me think it doesn’t even get a wipe down very often!
Location is good as a short walk either way down the strawberry line there are nice coffee shops and pubs.
The site has potential to be brilliant, but personally we thought the site was a bit tired and needed some tlc. However this is a nice site and we had a nice stay.
This CL is perfect for a relaxed and laid-back break in Somerset.
It is exactly as described on this website, and you have easy access to the strawberry line trail which is good for bikes and walking. The atmosphere is really laid-back and you just pick your space in the field next to your chosen EHU and enjoy your holiday until James comes to see you. The current washroom and shower facilities are a little walk away from the site next to the lovely swimming pool which is heated, outdoor.wi fi is great ( hotspot)
We cant wait to go again
Booked this site well in advance as thought it might be busy. Lovely site, toilets and showers a bit far for me to walk to as they’re by the pool but James said I could take my car up there. They are putting in showers and toilets down by the cl so that will make a huge difference. Very peaceful , pool is lovely, didn’t use the games room. Quite a late check in time but an absolute gem of a site.. Have already rebooked for a couple of months time.
We stay here predominantly because of its location to the Strawberry line cycle way.
The site is spotless, lawns well kept. There is a slight slope downwards so you may need to fully extend your jockey wheel, there are extra blocks if needed.
There is an on-site swimming pool, that is supposed to be heated, when we was there is was far to cold to swim in, but was still nice to sit round the pool.
it is very quiet with woodland walk from the site one way, and for cycling, come out of the site, turn right, along the lane, cross the road, and then you are at the cycle way, you can then go left to Yatton, or right.
The CL is tree-lined so not much of a view, but would be great if a little windy as you will be sheltered.
Will defiantly stay here again.
This is a very nice quiet place to stay. We were the only ones on site and out of season. Lots of lovely walks right on the door step. About a 15 minute walk to nearest pub.
What a lovely, peaceful site. Very spacious pitches. A great base to go explore Somerset. The strawberry line is just at the end of the lane and a fabulous bike route. We stayed 4 nights and will most definitely be returning.
I was staying here to visit my parents in the village whom I hadn't seen for nine months due to the pandemic. I borrowed by sister and brother in law's caravan and, apart from communication issues at the start, I can thoroughly recommend this CL.
On trying to make my booking, initially through e-mail, no one replied to me. After trying several times, I managed to get through on the telephone. A week prior to my visit I e-mailed twice but didn't receive a reply. I couldn't leave a voicemail as the machine was full! I finally got a reply upon sending a third e-mail. This is the only issue I had with this CL and is the only reason I have rated it 4 our of 5.
James told me to ring his mobile after setting up so that he could bring me the site information and make payment and, from that point onwards, I had a wonderful 3 night stay on this CL. The location is lovely and peaceful and only about a mile from the village of WInscombe. I recommend The Railway Inn at Sandford (owned by the Thatchers cider family) as well as a visit to their shop. Winscombe also has an abundance of shops.
As long as you are patient at the start and keep persevering to make the initial booking, you really shouldn't be disappointed with this lovely site.
