A lovely spot in Suffolk
We arrived on site after a very wet period of weather and so were pitched on a gravel based hardstanding rather the pretty pitches shown on the club website. We had no issue with being on the H/S as the grass and ground wouldn't have taken the units. The drive in from the turn off the Snape to Orford road is, or could be, rather hair-raising. It's just over 1 mile down a country lane that does have several passing places, which would be fine if all that you met were cars. However there is a supplier of Turf, amongst other things, just passed the CL and you could quite easily meet a flatback lorry full of turf coming towards you. Just be aware, particularly on those stretches of road which are not straight, of which there are a few. We never encountered one but another member did and was fortunate that there was a place with 2 passing places opposite each other. The site itself is very pleasant as are the amenable owners. The owner did say that he intends to improve the delineation of the Hardstanding pitches, as at present they are difficult to find as some grass has grown into them. 2 of these pitches are not level but fine for caravans.
The water point is sited near the pond and rubbish bins at the entrance to the site with recycling provided. The Elsan point is around the rear if the owners house near the next field. It is straightforward, having 2 steel handles to help lift the grid cover for emptying into the main sewer. This is an agricultural area and as such you should expect to hear plenty of early and late tractor noise. Dog walkers can access a quiet lane, Sandy Lane, opposite the CL which leads down to a FP. The road outside leads down to Orford, about 5 miles, or back to Snape, about 2 miles. You can access Tunstall Forest quite easily for more dog walking or walk up passed the road leading to Iken Church (well worth a visit) and turn right along a FP down to the Alde estuary where, tide permitting, you can walk to Snape Maltings. Sutton Hoo is nearby as is Aldeburgh and Minsmere an easy 15 minute drive away.
