Perfect for our first trip in our motorhome

Couldn't have been better. The site was great and very handy for the excellent local pub. Bus from outside the site to Whitby was a doddle, although Whitby was awful. Really full and total disregard for Covid 19 rules, as far as we could see. Definitely going to visit again but we will go on the great local walks and use the local pub. No more Whitby for us.

Shhhh.... Keep It A Secret

First time out in August 2020 due to Covid19 and what a beautiful site to find. Level, well cut/manicured grass and on Pitch 2 we had gravel hardstanding. Easy access to waste and water and separate chemical disposal. On arrival, name was written on blackboard and so straight onto site and owner came to visit. Pub close by and Whitby in easy striking distance. No doubt at all that we will return...if it's not booked up!

Nice site. Excellent pub close by

Site was nice but the stay was overshadowed by the over zealous owners adherence to her rules. Felt we were being watched and checked up on. We usually choose to stay on CL's for a relaxed atmosphere this was not the case here. Thankfully the saving grace to our stay was the pub close by which served excellent food and was very friendly.

This is an excilent CL, the owner is Very welcoming, close to park and ride although it’s only a 10min ride into the centre of Whitby if you go in your car. We will definately be coming back. Fantastic 10 out of 10.

Well maintained and efficiently run site.

Chose the site because of the proximity to bus route into Whitby (Scarborough or Middlesborough). Lorraine provided timetable and bus stop less than 200m away right outside the pub. Blackboard identified our pitch and 6.5m motorhome fits onto hard standing. Quiet site, well maintained with good views.

Lovely CL

We booked late as due to problems wasn't sure where we were going but Loraine sorted us out, we arrived to find our pitching instructions on the blackboard and levelled up easy. we were due to go on to Rosedale Abbey after but the site phoned advising me not to come as the conditions there were very bad, so we managed to stay for six nights. As the weather was horrendous constant rain wind and thunder storms I was worried about getting our 4250kg motorhome out without sinking, although the grass was waterlogged Loraine said I would have no problems and she was right. Regarding rules, as in a previous review, what rules? only requests to not let waste water spill over the grass and to use the recycling bins, leaving at 11am to make sure everything ok for the next van, dogs on leads etc. Also we are both over 70 and had no problems emptying the toilet and waste water in the area supplied. So thankyou Lorraine.

A three week break

We have just returned home from our first visit to North Yorkshire. This CL was ideal for our visit as it was so central to places we wanted to visit with a half hourly bus service that passed close to the campsite which gave us easy access to many beautiful places. Just a short ride to Whitby and a ride on the North Yorkshire steam railway over the moors to Pickering and back. The Cl was well run, very neat and the owner was very welcoming and visited each morning. We had one of the hard standing pitches and in the distance we had a view of Whitby Abbey on the horizon. Would definately recommend this site and would have no hesitataion in revisiting.

Short weekend break

Stayed at Tofthouse farm, for short family weekend break. First time using a CL site. Lovely peaceful and well kept site, very clean and owners take pride in how the site looks. Loraine very welcoming and friendly. Easy to pitch up all details on board as you arrive. Going to use on a regular basis, as the site was that nice. Site in great location for nearby tourist attractions. Local Arriva bus stops in village on a regular basis.

Toft House Farm

Nice site in a lovely area and great for getting in to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay etc. You can also walk to local pub which is ok. Only downside of site was to many rules etc for a CL site. We have started using CLs sites more frequently for that reason as they are a bit more relaxed than main sites. Don't get me wrong though nice site with lovely views and would use it again if in the area.

Early Morning Wake Up

Arrived on a Saturday to be allocated a pitch in the overflow field. To access the overflow field you need to pull in the main field drive full circle to line up get through the gate. The field was sodden on arrival but the main field was full so had no other choice, luckily the sun was out so within 24 hours the majority of the field dried out. Site clean, windy as high up but easy to get into Whitby. Not best pleased to be in bed on Sunday morning with all blinds closed to have someone hammering on the door to collect the money at 9a. Never in all the years of caravanning have I experienced this before and don't think this is good practice! Confused how a 5 van site is allowed 7 vans overnight and it states they have an information room we asked the early morning visitor where this was to be told they don't have one so suggest they amend description. Overall a nice site but not the best experience.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for the review. The CL owner has been in touch to clear up any confusion as they work hard to make sure caravanners and motorhomers have the best possible time and have as much information as possible when staying on site. The CL owners will only ever have 5 vans on site. Although they do have 8 pitches, they only use 5 at any one time as they have a rotation system to rest the pitches that are looking tired to ensure each pitch is well maintained and the best quality for members. The site description on the website has been amended to reflect this to avoid any confusion in the future. The notice board on the CL Site informs members that someone will be on site every day from 9-10am. If the owner sees that blinds and curtains are closed they would not call on you but on this occasion the person calling to see you must have misread the situation. They knocked on the door to check everything was ok and that you were settled. We apologise if this disturbed you and this was not the intention. We hope this clears up any confusion and we are glad that you liked the site.
