Perfect!

Beautiful location large field so lots of space between vans. Really lovely area. Only warning is that coming into the site drive are large potholes so be careful. We will be back!

Just Perfect!!

First visit to this beautiful, stunning, peaceful site. The views were just gorgeous. Stayed for 3 nights as part of our 2 week tour of South Wales. Great stop off and start to our holiday. The weather was superb whilst we were here too. Lovely little town with some great shops, in walking distance too. We took a walk along the river Wye to Llowes which is approx a 6 mile round trip from the camp site, start to finish. You can hire canoes as well and go down the river if your adventurous enough to do so. Overall stay was just perfect. Would definately recommend to go and stay.  Thanks for a lovely time.

A rather briliant weekend

What a site! - beautiful and peaceful with a deafening silence. Exceptionally good for a distress from the week. Lots of open space and not crowded by other club members. Shower and toilet facilities are available should you want to use them and in good order. We will definitely be back for more, as this is a brilliant place to recharge the batteries, shame it was only for the weekend, as there are a lot of great walks to had in this area. Oh and great shopping in Hay on Wye too! Well worth the traffic delays on the M4! Mr and Mrs Williams were fantastic too, very helpful when we phoned and told them we were running late due to traffic. We will be back!

One of the best.

We have been using our motorhome for the last five years and use a lot of CL sites. Having just spent a couple of weeks touring Wales, we had a couple of nights on this site and have to say it is one of the best sites we have used. There are fantastic views in all directions and the proximity to Hay on Wye is great. We are not 'in the first flush of youth' but we managed the walk down to Hay in 10 minutes and the walk back (uphill) in 20 minutes. The whole arrear has many attractions, but one of the most interesting we found by accident, was at Tretower Castle and Court. It was very atmospheric and you could imagine what it was like in days gone by. It is certainly a camp site and an area that we would visit again.

Lovely CL

I can't rate this site highly enough.  The views were fantastic overlooking Hay Bluff and the Black Mountains, and rolling hills and countryside.  A ten minute walk from the site will take you down into Hay and along the river Wye joining the Offas Dyke Path.  We were only going to stay a few nights but stayed two weeks.  The owners were very friendly and helpful.  We had the site to ourselves for quite a bit of our stay. The site was very well maintained and lovely and clean with helpful information just to hand in the well placed telephone box, if needed.  A great base for walking and site seeing.  Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

Great CL site

A great little CL site close to Hay on Wye. The owners are very friendly and helpful. New and clean toilets, shower could be better BUT as you have your own facilities in your van not a problem. Great views of the surrounding area, good for dog walking especially along the Wye valley and less than 15 mins to the centre of Hay. Would thoroughly recommend this to everyone.

Fantastic CL

Just had a week at Tirmynach and can quite honestly say it is the best CL we have stay at in our 8 years of caravaning.  The site is very well maintained by the owners who seem to be making improvements all the time.  They have put a handrail and steps down to the toilet/shower and the way is lite at night with lovely lights in the trees. The toilet/shower is perfectly adequate and very clean.  There are sufficient bins for waste disposal which are emptied regularly as well as recycling.  The site is 7 acres and I would say about 3 acres are mown regularly the rest being left to meadow which is lovely.  The site is big enough for you to go to the end of the field to let the dog have a run around off the lead without annoying anyone.  The electric hookups are spaced along the edge of the field to allow the vans to spread out giving each van as much space as they like.  The owners are great in that they're around if you need them or just want to chat or get some info about the area but they also leave you be and are not watching your every move which we find annoying on many CL's we visit now.  The views are spectacular and there are many footpaths straight from the site.  The area known as the Warren is 10 mins walk down the hill, which is a great place to take the dog, as is the village of Hay.  All in all this CL is excellent value for money at £12.50 a night.  We enjoyed it so much we've booked for the festival next year.  Only wish the site opened all year round as I think Christmas in Hay must be wonderful. Thank you for a lovely holiday and we'll see you next year ??

Fabulous C/L

The biggest and in my view the best C.l. I have come across.  The scenery is just Fab. especially from the top of the field.

Great space but opportunity missed

A criticism coming before us said 'this site could be so good – it really is spacious and the views are fabulous." We agree totally. I phoned the owner to ask if the previous review (robbo) had been a bit over the top, and was told that the loo had been the focus of last winter's makeover efforts, and the shower would be done this winter, but the review was a bit "strong". He sounded nice & friendly. So I took the chance, and opted for this site, further from the busy B road than Radnor's End - which is cheaper, better facility-value, better maintained, but nowhere near so quiet or (potentially) romantic. We actually used the loo facilities, but that may be unusual, since others' units seemed to be "fully integrated". Our points in particular are:- *1 - no rail down the steep steps, and no PIR or dark-times light to show the way down *2 - loo decor was clean, but oh, it was still unfinished, and lacked pride *3 - shower door is a disaster, and inside "ambience" was very down at heel, as robbo remarks, and my wife wouldn't use it. No room heater - even if paying 50 pence. There was still a moss laden rubber mat outside, and a disgusting one hanging over the fence *4 - grass throughout the field was about 7 inches high, and no pathways had been cut, so those without wellingtons got very wet feet. In summary, we felt that there was not a strong sense of pride in presentation and service-provision. If the loo & shower got just a few hours of work done on them (and not left 90% finished), a rail and a light fixed on the stone steps (might prevent a law suit: who knows), and a few minutes ensuring that the grass was "pathwayed" a bit, it would be an immense improvement. Sadly, it rather seems as if the site has been set up for fully integrated units who just want a water tap, electrics, and a waste disposal point - and tough luck for anybody who actually depends on toiletry facilities and was led to expect them by the Caravan Club Guide.
