A criticism coming before us said 'this site could be so good – it really is spacious and the views are fabulous." We agree totally.
I phoned the owner to ask if the previous review (robbo) had been a bit over the top, and was told that the loo had been the focus of last winter's makeover efforts, and the shower would be done this winter, but the review was a bit "strong". He sounded nice & friendly. So I took the chance, and opted for this site, further from the busy B road than Radnor's End - which is cheaper, better facility-value, better maintained, but nowhere near so quiet or (potentially) romantic.
We actually used the loo facilities, but that may be unusual, since others' units seemed to be "fully integrated".
Our points in particular are:-
*1 - no rail down the steep steps, and no PIR or dark-times light to show the way down
*2 - loo decor was clean, but oh, it was still unfinished, and lacked pride
*3 - shower door is a disaster, and inside "ambience" was very down at heel, as robbo remarks, and my wife wouldn't use it. No room heater - even if paying 50 pence. There was still a moss laden rubber mat outside, and a disgusting one hanging over the fence
*4 - grass throughout the field was about 7 inches high, and no pathways had been cut, so those without wellingtons got very wet feet.
In summary, we felt that there was not a strong sense of pride in presentation and service-provision. If the loo & shower got just a few hours of work done on them (and not left 90% finished), a rail and a light fixed on the stone steps (might prevent a law suit: who knows), and a few minutes ensuring that the grass was "pathwayed" a bit, it would be an immense improvement. Sadly, it rather seems as if the site has been set up for fully integrated units who just want a water tap, electrics, and a waste disposal point - and tough luck for anybody who actually depends on toiletry facilities and was led to expect them by the Caravan Club Guide.
