Have just had 3 nights at this quiet and peaceful ( if you don't mind listening to the Owls hooting at night and the woodpeckers drumming in the morning) sight.
The welcome we received from Peter was both excellent and very informative with him letting us know where all the local amenities and shops were ( with a hand drawn map, which was very concise) and telling us how to get to the Park and Ride £2 each return ( a 15 minute walk from the site) for Chester Town Centre. A taxi back ( as we had missed the last bus !! ) was £7.50
The amenities on site we exceptionally clean and the showers hot and the pitches were well marked and of great space
I would fully recommend this site if your looking for a site local to Chester and like the peace and quiet.
What a great little CL site, in a great position and excellent value for money. We booked a 2 night stay as we had tickets for the zoo and wanted somewhere nearby. The directions that came with our booking confirmation were excellent and the welcome and information provided when we arrived were just as good. Mr and Mrs Siddorn have put together a useful map of the immediate area that shows where the park and ride is along with the local amenities. They were also able to give us really good advice on using the park and ride. The park and ride is a 10 minute (ish) walk down to the end of the lane but what a great service. We got the bus into Chester - a very short journey - then changed buses straight away with no wait - to get the other park and ride to the Zoo - again a really short journey - followed by a 5/10 minute to the zoo entrance, the return journey was just as easy and all for just £2 each for the day! There is also another bus that runs to and from Chester bus station that stops by the park and ride at the end of the lane that runs later in the evening - great if you want to go to Chester in the evening. Local taxi back from The Little Owl pub was less than £7, where we had a tasty, good value meal with great service - it is an hours walk from the site to get there but the pint was worth it when we arrived!
The facilities on the site are basic but clean and the showers were lovely and hot.
Can't recommend this site enough for it's location, value for money and the friendly and helpful owners, we will definitely use again.
We have been CC members for nearly 40 years and in that time have used more than 150 CLs.
This one rates amongst the best. Peaceful (apart from aircraft flying to.from nearby Broughton aircraft factory), spacious, excellent, clean shower/toilet facilities, very accessible for Chester/Wirral. Mr Siddorn is very organised and can provide much local information as well as , clear and detailed instructions for finding the site. Only downside is the free-ranging farm dogs that encourages visiting dog-owners to allow their pets to do the same - including messingg! Not everyone likes dogs!
We love visiting Chester. This site appealed partly because of its location within walking distance of a park and ride and the good reviews. We were not disappointed.
The welcome was warm but not overpowering, we used a grass pitch which was fine despite all the recent rain nice and level with the grass short. We were also welcomed by the farm great dane! Yes the facilities are basic but permanently spotless, the showers were hot, perhaps a little heating wouldn't have gone amiss on a cold April morning. I am being picky at £14 it's tremendous value and we will go again
We stayed for a week in February and had a lovely time. We found it easily and access was good to the CL. Nice pitch surrounded by trees. As it is a working farm, there were horses nearby and two friendly dogs who greeted us from time to time. It was also interesting to watch the Airbus land nearby and plane noise was not intrusive. Plenty of birds and snowdrops on site, lovely to hear the owls hooting too. Extremely well surfaced cycle route from close to site which went to either Conor's Quay or Chester with interesting and industrial views of River Dee. As others have said, it is a quick cycle into Chester either on the cycle path or the main road. Supermarkets and other larger shops further down the main road. Park and Ride also available at top of lane with very frequent bus service for £2, which we used with my parents. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
Perfect all round. Good clean facilities. Well kept grounds. Excellent greeting from the owner, with all the information that we needed. 15 minute push bike ride into Chester City.
Thank you
Mark & Candy
This was our last site of 11 in just over 2 weeks, a stopover on our way back home. The directions the Siddorn's sent were spot on. No one there to welcome us, but clear instructions for when no one around. Level pitches, a bit damp, but can't be helped with the previous weather, was beautiful and sunny, while we were there. There are instructions for using the showers, but looked a little confusing, so can't comment on them. Lots of information available for the surrounding area, cycling etc. Didn't see a black lab, possibly a Great Dane, who was very friendly. Didn't see anyone on our departure, hoping they got our cheque alright. Would like to go back, spend more time visiting the sights and using the cycle paths, instead of our stopover :-)
We had 3 nights stay great nice walk along the river round the farm.
good access to CL site, made welcome by Mr Siborn.
Park and ride end of the road no need to drive down.
Watch out for black lab he loves scraps left in bags dont leave them in your awning.
Hope to call again one day.
Lovely welcome from site owner and he'd done lots of preparation to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Sent directions to site by email and gave us a detailed map of surrounding area. He was helpful but not intrusive. The site is quiet and ideal for anyone wanting easy cycling on traffic free routes. Chester in one direction and Connahs quay, Flint etc in the other. Toilets and showers basic but kept scrupulously clean. I'm sure we'll be back to visit again in the future.
This is one of the best CL's that we have attended. ease of access to the CL's, the space on the CL, the access to the Chester including the Park and Ride all first class. Two or three things. The first was as we arrived there was a black dog lose, this posed no problems as it was friendly and as dog owners we didn't mind but non-dog lovers or families with young children may find this an issue. The day we arrived it became apparent that the CL was definitely on a flight path with military and commercial planes flying over along with helicopters it got a little noisy. The main issue was the afore mention black dog. Not only did it greet us but it continued to roam free all the time through our stay. This included forcing it's way into our brand new awning to get into our bin while we were out, he also got into again after I took down the awning the day before we left. Equally the same dog stole food from our friends awning while they were out. The CL is amazing there is no question, but to be honest the dog roaming free may affect our return.
