Great CL

Just spent 2 nights on this lovely site. Road to Wighton from B1105 is single track but plenty of passing places so no problem. Site is very well maintained with very large pitches. Unlike the the owners other CL you can receive both a phone and radio reception. The local pub, 'The Carpenter' is a short stroll away and serves good food and real ales. Will definitely return

Heaven

This site was absolutely wonderful. There are two sections: the old playing field at the top which is a nice flat field with water, cdp etc. We were directed to the field behind the farmhouse, which I think was even nicer, being next to the fields and sheep etc. We were shown to our pitch by Mr Green, a lovely gentleman who spent plenty of time with us talking about the farm and the local area. The wildlife was amazing - geese aplenty, loads of birds, the sheep baaing away, a couple of deer walked across next to our van, lots of hares zooming around the fields and farmyard. It really was a delight. No barking dogs or kids running around - it really was heavenly and we will most assuredly be back. The locality is just stunning. Nice and close to the north Norfolk coast, which is beautiful. Wells next the Sea is close by, with plentiful parking and lots of lovely little shops and cafes. There were seals on the sand who appeared very happy to be photographed by everyone. What a magical place!

we liked it so much we came back !!

Back again in September 2015 for 12 nights and in May 2016 for another 13 night stay....We are getting to feel like regulars...It is so peaceful and so tidy we really feel at home...As per my previous review it is a perfect location to tour North Norfolk...Very handy for the National Cycle routes and there is a local farm in Binham that sells ''raw milk'' Thats milk that is just chilled and filtered ---- tastes WONDERFUL !! The best CL in North Norfolk !!

100% recommendation

Review;- The Old Playing Filed, CL , Wighton North Norfolk. 2 x adults, Touring caravan, 9 nights ( Just returned - ) The Old Touring Field is a 5 member only Caravan Club CL Site, located in the village of Wighton near Wells Next The sea in North Norfolk. Getting there from the North is a doddle. A1, A46,A17 then follow the roads towards Fakenham and then Wells, dont go through Walsingham as the roads can be busy at certain times of the year due to pilgramages to the Our Lady of Walsinghams Shrine. Follow the instructions given by the owners, Mr and Mrs Green or those found in the caravan club list of sites. Dont follow the sat nav. Ours has a caravan setting and that tried to send us down a very narrow track !! The site is located on what was once the village football/cricket field. It is at the far end of the village at Copys Green. The owner also has another CL located in his farm ( Whey Curd Farm ) The entrance to the site is clearly marked and easy to get into even with large motor homes or tractor and trailers!! Dont be put off by the couple of single track roads just prior to the village and on enerty to teh site. Norfolk drivers are very polite and courteous and will make room for you. The entire site is immaculately kept grass only but due to the very good drainage it is very firm and very dry ( two days of heavy rain had no effect ).The site is to the usual high standard that the caravan club requires of its CL. The pitches are HUGE ! each defined by a recently planted hedge which will in time provide privacy on the individual pitches. Each pitch has its own EHU, not sure what AMP but my wife had the 2kw fire and her hairdryer on one day and it did not trip out..The pitches are set in an 'L' shape. There are 6 marked out pitches so not sure what the extra on was for. In 10 days we were there there was a maximum of 5 but only for two days , the rest of the time was only ourselves and a couple on a motorhome. There are no toilets or showers on the site but there is fresh water supply, waste/toilet disposal, bins and information hut (leaflets on surrounding are etc )Normal pegs are ok for pegging out your awning but make sure its well pegged down ( we used our storm straps ) due to it being in an exposed position the wind can pick up. Only £12 including ehu , but that is of course Caravan Club Members only. The field and surrounding area is FULL of wildlife, great local walks and only a 3 mile journey into Wells. Try the Wells and Walsingham light railway. It is a 10 and 1/4 inch railway and runs from the far side of the village. I would definitely recommend this site. Its peaceful, immaculate and very handy as a base for touring around Norfolk. This was our first visit and first time on a CL and we would definitely go back again

An excellent and peaceful site

Very large and level plots, located away from the busy coast road but convenient for access to the attractions of the coast and inland, no dogs and kids is a real plus for me, and friendly owners. Nothing more to ask for.

Lovely Site

The site was very peaceful, spacious and very well kept. We will certainly stay there again. On the first evening we were welcomed by a male Marsh Harrier - later that evening we watched a female being mobbed by an Oyster catcher!

BEST EVER

We only use CL's because they are normally in the middle of the countryside as was this site. Each pitch had a large area to itself and was excellently maintained. The owners are welcoming and friendly but allow you your privacy .I was even allowed to use their workshop to repair a steady. Very peaceful but central for the attractions of North Norfolk. The local pub was a gentle 15 minute walk away. There is a fish and chip shop at the nearby village of Walshingham, as is the local shop(2 miles or so). £12 night with ehu and awning. No shower or toilet, so make use of your own facilities . I always give a mark out of ten for all the sites I visit and this got a ten. Fantastic. Stayed June 2014.

Whitsun Bank Holiday 2014

What a peaceful site! Very tidy & well kept with very large plots. Be sure to follow the instructions given by the owner on how to get to the site as the Whey Curd Farm CL is just across the road. Ideal base for Wells, Blakeney and the Holkham Estate.

Wet and Windy!

Despite the wet and windy weather our stay at the old playing field was vey relaxing. The site is extremely peaceful with no traffic noise. The field is very well drained and mown. Be careful of the holes left by the local rabbit population, although they are fun to watch playing in the neighbouring field.

Spring 2013

Good to find such a generous size for a new CL. Pitches well marked and once the newly planted hedges establish there will be both shelter and privicy. Joy of joys, it's adult only.
