3 nights at The Midden

3 nights at The Midden. We could easily have stayed longer as there is plenty to do without driving. As others have said, it’s easy to miss the signs to the site. Large grass clearing surrounded by trees with plenty of space for 5 vans. It is well screened from the road on which there is intermittent traffic. When there is no traffic you can hear a pin drop. Wells-next-the-Sea is a short walk along the road where there is a sizeable co-op. Its possible to walk on the verge up to the recycling centre but for the next 200 yds or so it’s on the road until the footway starts at the 30mph sign. There are no other paths from the site. Wells has excellent bus connections with the No 36 going to Walsingham and Fakenham in one direction and King’s Lynn along the coast road in the other. The CH1 goes along the coast in the other direction to Cromer and there is a CH2 beyond Cromer. The tourist office at the Maltings in Wells has timetables as well as a walking tour and map of Wells. There are good walking opportunities out of Wells along the coast and with a bike the Holkham Estate is within easy reach on tracks and quiet roads. We took the narrow gauge rail to Walsingham. It was better on the return as we sat in an open carriage and got off at The Midden but next time we will go by bus.

Gem of a site!

What a lovely little site hidden in a clearing in the woods. Delightfully chilled site with EHU dotted around so you can park as you wish! Grass pitches were fine for us in October, but would ring and check if it had been very wet! We will definitely come again next time we visit this area. We caught the Wells to Walsingham Light Railway from the site at "The Midden Halt". Also, don't be put off by the Recycling Plant next door as there was no sound or disruption. We had a great stay here!

Thoroughly Recommended

A small clearly marked woodland glade welcomes you when you arrive on site. Despite being close to the road and the local refuse recycling centre it is very peaceful, particularly at night. The history of the site is very interesting so don't forget to read the book hidden in the clearly marked bin near the track leading into the site. A great feature is the private station on the Wells and Walsingham Railway, a visit to Walsingham is a must especially on the days when the steam train is running. TV and mobile reception is very good. Alastair often appears on site making payment easy and to answer any questions. Definitely one to visit again.

Little Gem

Great little site. Very pleasant owners. Easy access to Wells and buses along the coast. We had a warm welcome from the chickens each afternoon. Highly recommended and will definitely stay again when in Norfolk.

Spacious CL site

We have recently visited this site. Its quite large and surrounded by trees, but always get sun during the day. The site is approximately 25 mins walk into Wells-at-the-sea (depending how fast you walk). You could easy miss the entrance to this site, but its only a very short distance from the recycling plant. The site is near a main road, but this wasn't a problem with noise. We didn't see Mr Beale on our visit, but this seems to be the case on some CL sites. Money to be left in post box. I will say it would be nice to receive confirmation of payment at some stage. Mr. & Mrs Wilkins

Flying Geese

Spent 4 nights in late Sept in Motorhome. 15 min walk to buses and to town and 30 to seafront. Really good basic CL. Worth walking around the field as some ehu tucked into corner We used the private stop on the light railway which goes to Walsingham. Only goes that way not into town Enjoyed the pink footed geese flying overhead in v formation and saw deer and heard tawny owl Easy access to rest of coast in car or on bus

Don't be put off by the name of the site.

This site, as well as the area, was a very pleasant surprise. We stayed a week, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The site is close to Wells-next-the-sea, as well as several other small towns and local attractions. One bonus was that the owner has produced a history of the site, and although I never got to finish it, it is fascinating. The Midden, as its name suggest, is a former waste site. But don't let that put you off, because it is a beautiful site. The only negative I can put for the site is the fact that it is so easy to miss the entrance. While easily wide enough to get your car and caravan/motorhome in, it is very easy to miss the entrance altogether (We did). That aside, a site we would happily go back to.

A great CL

This CL has it all for us. Easy access into Wells, peaceful and well looked after. Access to the site is good, just look for the entrance on the left after you pass the recycling centre. If you are there for more than a few days ask the owner for his copy of the history of the Midden. A fascinating read!

Perfect

Once again we return to The Midden, I cannot fault this CL in any way. Even in the height of season it is ideally located to remain peaceful. Perfect for walking, cycling, ornithology or just relaxing. Great bus routes give access along the North Norfolk coast.

Well placed for the beautiful Wells next the sea

This was our second visit to the Midden. Sadly we did not see Mr Beale on this ocassion. However the CL remains a quiet and secluded site well placed for the beautiful Wells next the sea. This is a lovely area and the North Norfolk coast is always worth a visit. Book with confidence for a good CL.
