Chris asked us to let him know our arrival time, and the gate was open when we got there, He arrived soon afterwards and approved our siting plans. The site is well kept with short grass, and the directions are clear (forget the SatNav!). We didn't visit the florist or the cafe / chocolate makers on the same site. Immediate surroundings rather flat, but directions available for several local walks. Hickling is a very attractive village, and the canal on a sunlit evening was spectacular. Further afield, we enjoyed visiting Southwell and Melton Mowbray, and there is some attractive hilly countryside nearby. The campers' toilet is immaculate, but a bit of a walk from the site.
Lovely little CL, very peaceful with great views over the countryside from the hard-standing for motorhomes.
Chris was very helpful and checked in with us every day to make sure we had what we needed, and that everything was ok.
The tea rooms at the Chocolate Shop were lovely, though sadly we didn't get the opportunity to view chocolate being made. It would definitely be worth a return visit for a chocolate-making workshop!
Double-check your SatNav routing before setting off - the site is actually halfway between two villages and both mine and my sister's SatNav told us we'd arrived when we got to the pub in Kinoulton about half a mile away, lol.
We seem to be very lucky with the sites that we choose to stay at. We were there for three and a half weeks, and although the weather was pretty awful at times the site was spot on. It is well maintained and Chris, Jan and their son couldn't have been more helpful, and having Sarfields Chocolaterie and Tea Room at the same location made it even better.
There is the main field at the front of the site but because of the amount of rain received just prior to and after out arrival we were actually put on to semi hardstanding behind the greenhouse. For us this was actually better because we got the added benefit of the views to the east of the site. There is a toilet and washroom on site and is perfectly adequate. It is cleaned daily.
There are two local pubs and the old Wharf cafe, all serving food. We only tried the Neville Arms and the Old Wharf. but food was good from both. We didn't try the Plough because we ran out of time before they opened after spending lockdown doing alterations.
All in all a very nice site and we would be very happy to go back.
Stayed 3 nights here. Great welcome from Chris with information sheets. Good Covid precautions in place. Quiet, relaxing and easy walking distance of two pubs. Bus stop outside (didn’t use so cant comment on the service). Would recommend.
Thanks to Chris and Jan, just back from 2 nights at this beautiful CL site as first timers in our new caravan. Water and 16 amp EHU to each pitch. Waste disposal and bins near to the CL field. Very relaxed site, dog walks in the fields behind the farm and either way down the road to the nearby villages (with pubs and the Wharf tea room on the canal) . The on site 'Sarsfield' tea room/cafe is fantastic and brand new. We used it for a superb afternoon tea (a must) and takeaway coffees (they have a proper machine) during the stay. It also specializes in making chocolate and you can do a tasting...
Despite being local we will be back as this site is perfect for us. I also know have a favorite pitch number but not sharing lol
In summary, a fantastic CL choice for our first outing that ensured we enjoyed the experience in the new van with our two dogs...
Welcome on arrival was lovely. We were shown to our pitch which had great views over the country side. Chris the owner made sure the pitch was right for us and checked that we had settled in OK. Our dogs loved the local walks straight from site, which were mown and easy to navigate. The site is very well kept and the chocolate themed café on site is a real bonus. The village is an easy walk across the fields to the pub and tea room.
warm welcome from Chris, given hard standing as heavy thunderstorms forecast ( did not happen). 11/12 August 2020.
site very well kept & clean with good dog walks, info sheets of routes given.
Everything that could be done to make the stay excellent was done.
Cafe/ chocolatier on site worth the short walk, chocolates to die for.
walks in the surrounding area including local pub & canal.
If you are lucky as when you visit, you may get fresh Tomatoes warm from greenhouse.
throughly recommend this site & we will be back
We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this lovely CL. We were met by Chris on our arrival. The site is level with large pitches. Everything is very well maintained and clean. Great for dog walking and lovely friendly pubs within easy walking distance. The canal is also close for walking, and the Old Wharf cafe in Hickling is great.
Will definitely be staying here again.
This was our first weekend away after lockdown and it was a great place to start.
Met by Chris, who was both welcoming and informative and continued to be so throughout.
Good dog walks and surrounded by great places to visit.
Would reccomend and will definately be returning.
