Peaceful rural site, friendly and welcoming owners

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable three days here, booked last minute over the bank holiday weekend. The pre-departure directions and local area guide were very helpful, and we had no issues in finding the site which was very well organised (loved the dog paddock) and immaculately tidy. Tony and Lorraine were on site when we arrived and were patient and helpful as we took our time setting up - first time in a new van, took a while! We had the end pitch with views across the fields - the dog spent a lot of time watching rabbits through the van window. We did a few walks directly from the site and also travelled a bit further afield to Dovedale and Carsington Water, then spent the rest of the time relaxing in the peace and quiet on site. The electric was metered (10kw per day within the price) and that was plenty for a spring break, and it was handy having grey water drainage on the pitch. It was perfect few days away and Tony and Lorraine were great hosts, willing to be helpful and have a chat and a laugh but left us to it for the rest of our stay. Thank you for having us!

Absolute Gem of a site no complaints whatsoever from us

Arrived to stay for 10 nights from April 16th and it ticked our boxes completely from the pre booking communication to the directions to pitching up. We had the bells n whistles check in as Tony & Lorraine were all suited n booted ready to go to a family christening:) they told us where & how to pitch and left us to get on with it. They were so helpful & friendly throughout our stay and checkout was simple and easy. We paid our extra electric and thought it was really cheap for how long we'd stayed and what we'd used. Can't complain at all. Just wish some members would be more respectful of land owners that let us stay on their private land. We all know what is acceptable and the club rules- yet sadly we witnessed one guest leave behind their dog in the van all day while they went out off site - let's say it wasn't so peaceful but didn't affect us as we went off for the day but just selfish actions of the few as usual. The site is in a lovely rural peaceful setting sheltered with hedging and some great walks direct from site. Fully serviced pitches were ideal and felt so luxurious for the pitch fee. We love not sharing facilities especially since Covid. We will definitely be back it's on our 'favourites list' now. Thx Lorraine & Tony for your hospitality- Mike & Esther

SUCH A BRILLIANT CL SITE

What can we say… First of all what a lovely welcome from Tony and Lorraine the site owners, showing us where everything was on site. A lovely place very well kept and in order and very secure. Lot’s of walks and places to go and eat including dog friendly places etc. We will definitely return to The Gables and enjoy future stays and look forward in doing so. Thank you Tony and Lorraine for keeping such a beautiful CL. John and Shirley x PS: A FABULOUS ENCLOSED OFF LEAD DOG FIELD available 👍👍👍

The warmest of welcomes and a great CL!

As relative new CL owners Tony an Lorraine have set the bar very high indeed. They both possess oodles of natural hospitality skills and a warm welcome is absolutely guaranteed. The site is delightful and on this winter visit the fully serviced pitch was such bonus. The dog run makes life very easy for we dog owners. The icing on the cake was the wonderful support we received when our car died on us, just before a bank holiday, including repeated offers of shopping for us and a free 'taxi' run with Tony to collect the car following repair. This site and this couple exceeded our best expectations in every way. Thanks guys!

Added to our shortlist

We visited over the weekend and I can only echo previous reviews. From the welcome we received on a very wet Friday evening to the whisper quiet tranquility, this site did not disappoint. There are 5 hardstanding full service pitches, each with water tap and grey waste drain and the site being adults only is the icing on the cake. Site information provided by email was very helpful. Follow the site directions to the letter and don't tempt fate trying to squeeze under the 9ft 6in arch around the corner! 4g on 3 was good enough for streaming as required. TV reception good and loads to do in the area to suit all interests. Firmly added to our favourite CL's shortlist and we will certainly be back.

Spot on

Easy booking, easy access, the site reflected the level of hard work given to it, all in all we are glad to have been and hope to return shortly. What made our stay even better was the friendliness of everyone in and around Ashbourne, matched and bettered by Tony and Lorraine. Thank you for your helpful advice during the time we were able to be with you.

Fantastic peaceful and welcoming CL

We have just spent 4 nights at The Gables, the site is well maintained and in a great location away from any roads for added tranquility. The views across the fields are beautiful and Dora our cocker spaniel also loved every minute of our stay. We visited Youlgreave and took a lovely walk, stopping at the village pub for a couple of pints and a bite to eat. We also walked by Carsington water and took a decent 4m walk from the site using the public rights of way which lead directly from the site. Access is good via a single track lane, the cattle grids are not an issue, you will pass 2 on your approach to the site. Highly recommended site, in a great location with a very warm but non invasive welcome from Tony and Lorraine.

Great CL site

Can't add much to the reviews already listed. This site has only been open since April this year (2022), but wow... its amazing, Lorraine and Tony you've done a great job! We received a very warm and friendly welcome from both Lorraine and Tony. The enclosed paddock for dogs was certainly an added bonus, our dog loved it and soon made new four legged friends. The wooden bench in the paddock is a lovely touch. We will certainly return.

One of the best CL's

We have been battling with ourselves wether to leave a review, mainly because we wanted to keep this gem of a site secret so we can always get in!! We had the most detailed instructions on how to get there and the warmest welcome we have ever received. The pitches were lovely fully serviced ones and the ease to get to surrounding attractions was superb. There is a great pub within a short driving distance as is a great fish and chip shop but for us the greatest thing was having an enclosed dog paddock that even our escape artist dog could not get out of. This is one site that is going to be our little bolt hole. If we could give it more than 5 ticks we would.
