Fabulous

Just returned from 5 days here with our 5 dogs. Absolutely loved it. Owners helpful but unobtrusive. Site immaculate and peaceful. Plenty of dog walks off site. Lovely location. Can't wait to return.

Weekend Retreat

Stayed on this site late February, weather was best on the drive to the location (please follow directions on site, unlike myself who followed the Sat Nav). Site was already full but the pitches are large enough that plenty of space to pitch without effecting other users. Hard standing pitches all level, as water went into Aqua roll it came from the Sky also. That said lovely view over the field with cattle in the distance. We visited the pub for a meal on the first evening, as others have already mentioned, food was gorgeous, staff were friendly and just a small walk back to the van meaning even in the poor weather we could both enjoy the alcohol. Shower and toilet in site was always clean and warm, only small issue is the plaque for letting us know if the shower is vacant or engaged, other users didn't alter meaning a long period time wasted thinking the room was being used, please be considerate. Overall a little gem,and at only 40mins away we will definitely be regular visitors.

Escape without the kids...

Had a lovely, one night stay on a very sunny September weekend. Very easy to pitch up - wide, gravel pitch with own water and electric. Our route brought us over the very narrow bridge from Eggleston, which made me breathe in, though I am sure there is more than one way to approach the site. The whole place is nicely done. We had an enjoyable evening meal in the pub. It was tasty and the service was very good. There are lots of lovely places to visit in the area. We were on a flying visit so we only popped out to the gardens at Eggleston Hall, which were looking very nice and are a great place to stock up on plants. Would love to go back again but it's not easy to get babysitters for 3 children!

Little Gem

Booked and arrived same day - reception very good - paperwork sorted and onto the site in a trice. Access to the site is straight forward. The pitches allocated are huge (easy manoeuvring) , level and properly stoned hardstandings. Each pitch has electric and own water supply together with nearby disposal facilities makes this an excellent CL

Tremendous

We only managed to book for one night but we were so impressed with the standard of this CL that we will certainly return. The food in The Crown was delicious and we would happily recommend it.

A lovely C L

This is a lovely C L within a village setting behind a very nice pub . The site was clean , tidy and well maintained .We arrived and registered in the bar and the staff were efficient and friendly despite the fact that they were very busy, all the necessary paperwork was ready for us just to go and set up. The views were wonderful of the Durham Dales and site is ideally situated to access "Barnie "and the wonderful Bowes Museum .Its a C L we will love to stay in again .

One of the Best!!

We stayed here for 7 nights over Easter and found it to be the perfect retreat: Quiet, in beautiful surroundings with an excellent pub adjacent. Hard standings and water to each pitch made it easy for us as the weather wasn't too kind. There is also a smart and heated shower room. We were made very welcome on arrival by Andrew, the owner and the friendliness continued when we went into the dog-friendly pub. The food is excellent  - The Morecambe Bay Shrimps were the best I have ever tasted !!  Great area for walking - the walk along The Tees to see High Force is fabulous . We will definitely return.

Winter Wonderland

We stayed for 3 nights, 3 to 6 March. It was cold, wet and with a little sleet just thrown in for effect, however the hospitality was very warm. The site is clean and tidy with a nicely set up toilet and shower room, the shower was a little under powered for my liking. The views are beautiful and on the second morning we awoke to a beautiful white snow capping to all the surrounding hills. The railway walk just a few hundred metres away is very well set up but at this time of the year you need wet walking gear to get the most out of it. Finally the best reason to stay here is the pub which has excellent food. We were only going to eat here on one of the nights but it was just too good not to go back the next night. We're glad we don't live close because we would be in every night and probably tempted to eat again and again!

In the top 10 of CL's we have stayed at!

Excellent facilities which are well thought out in fantastic tranquil setting, yet at the rear of a fantastic pub with great food! Excellent ensuite shower room with thoughtful idea of a sliding notice you adjust on the gate indicating whether occupied or not, to save your legs! Very near the old railway walk so easy to walk into Middleton-in-Teasdale. Low force waterfall within 5 mls on the Pennine Way. This site is a precedent for others! If only there was a rating system for CL's.

Great cl for visiting the area

Just had four nights at Mickleton, great sized pitches all with water and electricity. The toilet/shower room was very good. Pub was good, good food good beer. Well kept site. All you need for a comfortable stay.
