Ease of arrival/welcome

Left to our own devices

We had a 2 night stop here. We were notified on booking that the first night would be £20 and all subsequent nights would be £15. When we arrived we naturally assumed that the owner would come and welcome us as he was mowing the grass on the lower field - he didn't - so we just pitched up on the top level on the hardstanding. The pitch itself was on a slope (to be fair most of the hardstandings were sloping) - so we had to use our blocks. As stated in a previous review the site is split into two - hardstandings on the top level and a grassed area at the bottom. The grassed area looked to be possibly more level than the top. Both areas were in full use over the 2 days we were there. As it was obvious we weren't going to get a welcome we had to find out where everything was ourselves. Fortunately the water tap was next to the pitch, so it saved us hunting for the water source. I made a recce of the laundry room and ladies toilet block. I needed to wash out some of our cycling gear, but I opted to do it by hand as I wasn't entirely sure the laundry room was up and running - the strong winds we experienced over the 2 days we were there ensured all the washing I did dried well on our washing line. Both toilet blocks were definitely in need of some tlc. The loos were ok, but the showers left a lot to be desired - so we opted to use our own facilities. We pitched ourselves in the top corner nearest the hedge-line - and thus nearest the wind turbines. True, they were quite noisy, but not so much that it disturbed our sleep. Come the final night of our stay the owner still hadn't been to see us and as such we had no idea how he wanted payment - so I ended up texting him saying I was quite happy to pay him by BACS. He replied saying he would come round the next morning at a time convenient to us and take payment - so it was a good job we had enough cash on us. He was very amiable when he came the next morning, it was just a shame that we had to chase him in this regard. The site itself was very well maintained with lovely views - as well as having great cycling in the vicinity on the quiet country roads.
