We spent 3 nights here and really enjoyed our stay. The site is well laid out with fantastic views, within walking distance of the nearby beach (15 minutes or so) and within driving distance of all the local places of interest. The access roads are quite narrow but it is not too far to the nearest main road, Friendly welcome from Ian, and all very relaxing. Would recommend and hope to return.
Stunning and quiet location
Just back from 4 nights at South Port o Spittal over a stunning September weekend. Road to the site is narrow but easily found using the instructions in the CAMC book. We had phoned ahead and were told to take any empty pitch and bagged a grass pitch with stunning views over the Irish sea to Larne. Hard standing pitches were also available.
Surprising give the shortage of site during these strange times the pitches were never all full. Due to COVID only one loo/shower was open but that was fine.
This is not a site for those that want to walk to the pub or a shop as Portpatrick is about 4 miles away. There is a quaint hotel about a mile away next to a lovely wee cove but be warned and take a very bendy credit card if you want a refreshment!
Brilliant for site for walkers or cyclists
Enjoyable visit
We have just spent 3 nights on this very pleasant cl. Pitches are grass or hardstanding and all have lovely views across the sea to Ireland. We enjoyed the 15minute walk down to the local beach which took slightly longer coming back. Loved watching the sheep in the field next to the cl. There is a combined toilet and shower room available. It was windy as we expected but it didn’t rain! The approach roads are very narrow with very few passing places plus the signage approaching cl could be improved.
Stunning location where you can either explore or just relax and unwind
We have recently returned from the most wonderful stay at South Port O’Spittal.
It was easy to find and the road was absolutely fine if you follow the directions provided by Ian. You can call him on:

We were given a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for Ian and Kaye.
The site is immaculate, it’s like a beautiful garden and the views are nothing less than stunning. If you want to relax and unwind then look no further. I am a poor sleeper and can sleep as little as 3 hours a night at home but benefited from 8 hours + every night at South Port O’Spittal!
There are hard standing and grass pitches which are nice and level so no messing around.
I can’t believe we went all these years without knowing about this wonderful little site. The area has so much to offer, it would take me ages to go through them all but great for exploring. It’s not far from the town of portpatrick which is worth exploring, it’s so quaint with a lovely clean harbour and beach, coffee shops, pubs and cafes. The site is also just 15 minutes walk from a beautiful little beach, where you can sea fish or just enjoy. I am back home now but can’t help thinking that I can’t wait to go back!
Wonderful site
Just arrived home after 4 night stay on this lovely site. Charles, (who looks after the site for the owner Ian) was there to greet us and advise on where and how to pitch up. There is an area for 4 units to pitch on the grass and a large grass area opposite which isn't for pitching: thus ensuring everyone can enjoy the wonderful views. There are a further couple of grass pitches nearer to the facilities, which also have great views. Both the owner and Charles have their own caravans pitched on hardstanding at the site entrance separate to the cl.
We encountered no problems at all with the access road, which has been repaired and resurfaced following the dreadful storms earlier in the year.
There are brand new showers fitted and the use of both a washing machine and drier.
There are walks to Portpatrick direct from thesite (took us 2 hours there and 1 hour back). Nearest supermarkets are Lidl and Morrisons on the edge of Stranraer-15 minutes away.
5 minute drive to Colfin Creamery, which is open for lunches, afternoon teas and during the evening at the weekends if you fancy something a bit nicer than the usual pub grub; booking is recommended as they get quite busy.
Overall we had a fabulous time and thoroughly recommend this site: we will definitely return!
Tranquil clean safe site
I visited May- June 2019 . This site is real value for money, clean tidy and really helpful friendly staff, Charles is a font of knowledge about the local area. Thanks for a great stay . As a woman travelling alone (with dog) I felt really safe here. Nice size pitches, will defo return :)
Nice site, Bad weather
My wife and I visited this CL in the second week of March 2019. The approach to the site consisted of more potholes than road surface with some of the potholes being very deep, We were greeted by Charles who helps out on the farm and the site, and who was very helpful with were to position our caravan, with the impending arrival of Storm Gareth in the next few hours. We pitched up in a stiff breeze, the views across towards Ireland were out standing, which also meant that we could see the weather coming towards us. We decided to go out and explore, which meant the dreaded access road, which was not a deal better without the caravan hitched up. We ended up in Stranraer, a lot smaller than I expected, but we managed to get something to eat, and then made our way back, the potholes were worse in the dark and when we arrived back the storm was building, I don't know how but we weathered the storm even though at times we thought that we would either tip over or have the roof and side panels ripped away in the winds. After a sleepless night we left at first light the next morning, only to have to face the potholes once again. I can definitely say that this is the worst night we have ever spent, in over 30 years of caravanning. On a sunny day with no wind I can imagine that this would be a lovely Site, especially if the owner filled the potholes in, a couple of lorryloads of road stone would go along way.
Lovely CL! What a find!
We stayed on this CL for 5 nights from the 6th July. We booked by phone earlier in the year with no problems. We were greeted on arrival by Charles who looks after the site for Ian. He was friendly and showed us where all the facilities were.
What a fantastic spot! Peaceful with stunning views across to Northern Ireland. Pitches on grass which was well kept and regularly mown. Toilet and shower facilities adequate for requirements.
We had days out to Portpatrick, Mull of Galloway and Ballantrae.
One of the best CLs we have stayed on! We will be back.
Just Amazing!
We were touring the area in our motorhome and not having any definite itinerary, didn't have any sites booked. We simply turned up at this site, initially just to take a look and see if it suited us. Wow, we were impressed! What an immaculately kept site with stunning sea views from all pitches.I won't go in to any great detail about the facilities as these are easily found in the sites book or the internet but we had never been on such a magnificent site offering so much for a very decent price.
We were met by a very pleasant chap who looked after the site for the owner who lived onsite so was always available, should you need him at, various times of day.
There is a steep path from the site that joins the Knockinaam Lodge road and allows access onto the beautiful beach. What a bonus.
The weather was hot but windy and as darkness closed in, we sat and watched the lighthouses of Ireland flashing. So many were visible, just wonderful.
We hope to return.....!!!!

Fabulous!
This CL is great. With fantastic views of Northern Ireland, a quiet peaceful site, well maintained ground (but you will need levelling blocks), wildlife watching opportunities, good showers and facilities, friendly people, excellent value for money - what more do you need?
