Excellent site

We stayed here in July and really enjoyed the modern showers and toilets which are kept to an excellent standard. The pitches are level, nicely landscaped with water and EHU nearby. Very peaceful location. Plenty to see and do nearby in this corner of Scotland. Would highly recommend.

WOW an absolute gem

This is probably the best little CL we have ever stayed on… quiet is an understatement even with the melodic bull 😂😂😂 the pitches are spotless and large, with fabulous hardstanding for the van and lovely well draining grass for the awning. As for the facilities I just don’t know where to start!!! Spotless and comfortable are just not good enough words…. As good as home easily, with a washing up area as well … heated with spotless decor. The facilities were once the children’s toilets ..so good. There is an abundance of information about the area and a great touch of 5 little chalk boards so you can introduce yourself. There is also the opportunity to buy local produce… as for Sue and Les just wonderful hosts.. I cannot recommend this site enough which pains me as it will probably be full next year ❤️

Blissful

FWhat a absolute gem this site is . By far one of the nicest sites we have been on .Well done Sue and Les you have worked so hard to achieve this you clearly have experience to what people need . We stayed for a week from 14 th May the weather was fabulous we know the area well and were able to visit our favourite places . Ate at the Harbour Inn Garlieston always worth a visit and the Pheasant a walk away was memorable we will be back next year for 2 weeks to watch the wonderful wildlife from our window . Only reservation I have is telling everyone how fab this site is they may not be room for us

Fabulous stay

We stayed for 3 nights in May 2024. When we arrived Sue was there to great us and direct us to our pitch she then gave us the tour of facilities. We have to say it is the most beautyful CL site we have ever stayed on. Each pitch is so lovely with your own little landscaped garden. The views are superb and the toilet and shower block is something to behold. The whole site is exceptional. Our only down side is we were on part of a tour of the SW300 and live in Yorkshire so can't make it a regular place to visit but highly recommend it to anybody.

Outstanding cl

Certainly one of the best CLs we’ve ever been on. Stayed 2 nights in April with friends. The facilities are outstanding, and the welcome from Sue and Les couldn’t be warmer. Our visit was enhanced by watching deer and a hare in the nearby field, even though that made us less keen to sample the venison lasagne on the menu at the Pheasant next door!

Simply one of he Best

Just spent a wonderful week on this site. Lovely welcome from Sue, who explained the unique grey water disposal area, chemical disposal and the amazing heated 4* shower block. The pitch we were allocated was one of the best in 30 years of caravanning. Being allowed to pitch, nose in, to take in the amazing panorama, we were able to witness roe deer as well as red kites, buzzards, pheasants and hares in the field within our view every day. In addition, our pitch contained a little garden with plenty of flower troughs and a garden bench to sit out and enjoy the afternoon sunshine. Our pitch was large enough to contain our 8 metre caravan, awning and annexe and our car. The entrance to the site was not as difficult as previously described, being easy to get in and out even with our long outfit. The site is in a lovely bike-riding area. A special mention to the Harbour Inn in Garlieston and the Pheasant Restaurant just 30 steps from the CL. In the evening and night, the only sound is silence. Bliss.

Our First CL, and a First Class Experience!

We stayed at Old Sorbie School CL for 3 nights in late August. This is a superb base for exploring the Dumfries and Galloway area - a real credit to its owners Sue and Les. The site is simply immaculate. All pitches are Hard Standing with individual EHUs and fresh water, and offer beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. Nose-in parking, if you have a mover, allows full benefit of these, and is not an issue. Full, modern facilities (2 x loos, 2 x showers, full wash-up facilities) are on offer in the old school building itself and are welcoming and scrupulously clean. Owners Sue and Les are friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic - this CL is clearly a Labour of Love to them! One point to be aware of is that access to the site is via a steep-ish ramp. This shouldn't be an issue gor most outfits, but just take extra caution if you have a particularly long caravan or A-Class Motorhome. We will definitely be returning! Thanks, Sue &Les, for a lovely relaxing stay. We'll definitely be back! Grant & Vicki

Delightful

Big thanks to Sue & Les for welcoming us to their immaculate site which they tend to with care over every detail. All pitches overlook countryside where we spotted hare & deer with swallows & martins wizzing overhead. Nice to have the radio on when using the modern & spotless facilities (unisex) or doing the washing up. If we’d not had perfect weather there’s a fun option of a bring-your-own bar & tv “after-school-club” room. We extended our stay from 4 to 5 nights as the area had plenty to occupy us. We used the 415 bus to explore during the day. My favourite place was Isle of Whithorn & we also loved the Galloway house gardens that lead you down to Rigg bay & don’t miss a mooch around Wigtown. We can highly recommend the Pheasant restaurant next door where, as promised, we enjoyed a warm welcome and an excellent meal. Please supply the glorious sunshine again next time we visit! Stunning CL

Just spent 5 nights over Easter at this stunning CL. Sue and Les were very welcoming, friendly and informative. The facilities are absolutely immaculate . The pitches are perfect, thoughtfully spaced out and well cared for and the site is beautiful and very well kept . The site is lovely and peaceful especially as adult only. The Italian restaurant literally 5 minutes walk away can be recommended for take away pizza and it was only on our last night we learnt that is is now dog friendly this year. There is a dog wash provided which came in handy after a wet muddy walk one day ( only day of rain so not too bad) so our collie in the nearby Forrest. Garlieston is a 45 minute walk away with great coastal walks each way and a lovely friendly pub - The Harbour Inn. We were in a MH so had a drive out to the Isle of Whitworth, Luce sands and the Galloway Forrest on separate days - lovely places and we and our collie throughly enjoyed the walks there. As said in a previous review our only negative is that the majority of footpaths shown on OS maps are now either so overgrown they are not passable or are none existent so walking anywhere around the area is on roads with no paths which is not ideal or enjoyable with a dog ( albeit the roads are very quiet) BUT all the positives of this site by far out weight the negative which is no fault of Sue and Les. As said in the title just an absolute stunning site.

Peace and luxury

We spent 3 nights here towards the end of August. We didn't see any of the animal wildlife but the birds made up for it. Flocks of swallows swooped over the field beyond the site, more sparrows than I've ever seen together twittered along the wall and the hedgerow while dozens of goldfinches fed on the thistles in the field. Several robins appeared on the wall and a couple of buzzards flew over, too. We spent quite a bit of time watching them all and enjoying the peace and quiet. Oh, and the site was smart and well-organised, Sue was friendly and helpful and the facilties were more luxurious than many people have at home!
