A 5th Wheel adventure!

Smithy Croft is everything all the other reviewers have stated and more. We stayed here for 4 nights in Mid January 19 and it was a brilliant experience! We had blizzards, strong winds, sunshine and rain in equal measures but the warmth of welcome could not be bettered. Bill and Jane are one offs and the site is well kept, clean, with great facilities and no shortage of something to see or do! I did the tractor and classic car viewing which was really interesting and a must see. We think Bill was curious about our 5th wheel as he turned up for a look bearing a bottle of single malt to share a few drams, camping stories and local tales which was thoroughly enjoyable. We were treated to a bagpipe serenade by Bill & Janes grandson which was memorable, moving and very professionally performed. The Fiver was looking a bit grubby after the snow and weather but Bill happily furnished me with brush, bucket and cleaning materials to bring her back to shiny, nothing was too much trouble. We were on the hardstand and all pitches have water, grey waste and there is a black water disposal. Full recycle facilities and a clean functional toilet complete this excellent facility, The road is a main one with fast moving cars but this did not detract from the overall area. Fraseborough is great for a visit and the cheapest petrol with an ASDA as is the coastal road with stunning views, walks and Pennan village where Local hero was filmed. A short drive took us to Speyside Cooperage at Aberlour which is well well worth a visit and really interesting. Smithy Croft was a real smithy and we will certainly be looking out for the little tractor on the entrance sign again, hopefully in the near future. Recommended!

One of the best CL's in Scotland.

What an absolutely fantastic experience. This CL is outstanding. The pitches are perfectly maintained and there is also a really clean WC for use by those staying. I was given a great tour of the tractors, and the owner went out his way to fulfil my enthusiasm for tractors by giving me a tour of his wider collection. Set in beautiful countryside, with quiet back roads for walking the dogs, but close to Fraserburgh for Asda and all it's essentials. Lovely folk run this CL, they are CL users themselves.

Place of Beauty

My Wife and I have just come back from a four night stay, we found Smithy Croft to be just what we were looking for, as a base to explore the scenery and the historic sites. We were lucky enough to have had the pleasure of a spin in one of Bills vintage Morris Ten Fours, we were over the moon. I was also given a tour around his son’s collection of Vintage Tractors; it took me back to my childhood. Our time spent on the farm will never be forgotten. A Certified site to remember for the future. Thanks to Bill and Jane for a very good stay. Would we recommend it ? YES.

Top class CL

My wife and I stayed for 4 days to visit the local area. This is a compact site with excellent facilities, each pitch has electric hook up and its own water tap, and you can drain your grey waste into the hedges, so they are a sort of fully serviced pitch (take your water hose and waste hose). The site is gently sloping but the pitches are level side to side and there is a nice view from the site. There is a toilet for campers and the black waste disposal is next to it, and as it is a compact site you do not have far to walk to use these facilities. There is also a hard standing pitch for motorhomes. Entrance to the site is off the main road up a short incline - no problems there. The weather was VERY wet when we arrived, so the well manicured grass was sodden (as you would expect) but the ground was solid and well drained. There were no problems sinking into the ground and when the weather cleared up the land dried quickly. We received a very warm welcome from our hosts. Ask about their classic car and vintage tractor collections! This is a great site for visiting tourist attractions in the area, of which there are plenty, I recommend the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses in Fraserburgh. The only reason I marked the site at 4 stars for 'peace & tranquillity' is due to the fact that there is some road noise from the adjacent main road. It did not cause us to loose sleep but you should be aware of this. We live in a small village 7 miles from the nearest main road so we are used to not hearing passing traffic. If you live in a town or city then I'm sure that you would not even notice the traffic. It did not spoil our stay. Would we return? Certainly. Do we recommend it? Yes.

Wonderful

We use CLs regularly but don't often leave reviews as the locations are near to home and we are being selfish!! Smithy Croft requires advance planning for us so very happy to review! The owners are lovely and we could not have hoped for better. The field is sloping but we didn't need to use levelling blocks. Grass kept beautifully groomed and most pitches have their own tap along with standard ehu. Lovely views across the rolling countryside. Short walk from pitch to toilet, waste and recycling facilities. Easy access from road which is not intrusive. Really enjoyed our week at the end of July and would definitely return.

Perfect

I have been visiting Fraserburgh all my life, up until now have always used the commercial site at the beach.  However in recent years it has become very expensive and very run down, therefore was keen to try something new.  Had passed Smithy Croft many times over the years so this seemed like a natural choice. OK missed the sea view but apart from that it was excellent.  Couldn't ask for more really.   Nice spot, easy access, good facilities.  Perfect!

Splendid Smithy Croft

On our first visit to Smithy Croft CL we were given a warm and friendly welcome from the owners. The CL was bordered by daffodils and had some spring flowers in tubs, the grass was very well maintained. The elevated postion of the site afforded beautiful views across the surrounding countryside. It is ideally situated for visits to nearby coastal villages, parks, railway walks and National Trust properties. If you are travelling with dogs the nearby village of Strichen has a community park which is ideal for off lead excercise as is the magnificent Aden Country Park which has the biggest dog excerise area we have ever seen. A visit to the lighthouse museum in Fraserburgh was very interesting. An Asda store has opened in Fraserburgh and has a cafe and a card only fuel station. The fuel was the cheapest we saw in the area. We had a wonderful time and the CL was one of the best we have visited. Smithy Croft CL - a jewel in the CL network.

A bright welcome

We stayed at this brilliant CL for 2 nights whilst visiting friends in the area. Pitch like a billiard table. Loo and washing facility as clean and neat as a whistle (we wish we could say that more often about CLs). And the owners? Charming, friendly, helpful - a delight to meet at the end of a long journey. We arrived disgracefully late on the second night (carousing with our friends!) to find they had put a light on at our pitch to see us in! The road nearby was certainly no problem ( in fact it made the CL very easy to find), however visitors should be warned an over-enthusiastic cock with a misguided sense of time may give you an early morning start!

Fab CL!!

Stayed here for 3 nights on our 3 week highland tour. Certainly one of the best CLs we have ever stayed at. Really well kept field with great pitches, all with their own water points. The small touches, eg hanging baskets, info in toilet area that make all the difference, not to mention the warm welcome from the extremely friendly owners!! If back in this area, will certainly be booking in here again! Really good value for money also at £8 per night. Stayed in far more expensive CLs not near at the same standard as this one. The only slight negative, but clutching at straws for one, is that it is close to the main road, but didn't really notice the traffic noise much. Thank you for a lovely stay, the Beedies :-)

Spring Visit 2013

This CL is well situated for visiting the North Aberdeenshire coast with it's fine beaches, cliffs & interesting fishing villages. The site has good views, the convenience of water to each pitch and a toilet/washbasin. The friendly helpful owners, being CC members and CL users too, know just what visiters require. Fraserburgh is close by, and has both Tesco & Lidl, and will have an Asda with fuel by the end of the summer. For those who like traffic free cycling there is a disused railway walking/cycleway that runs for up to 35mls, at Strichen 6 mls from the site. Will definitely used this CL again when we are in the area.
