Charming little site.

A little gem of a site ,great base for Northern Lakes. The site is well cared for with spacious pitches and wonderful views towards the fells. Convenient access to and from M6 . Beware of the narrow entrance especially if you have a large caravan. Site is good value for money.

Convenient for Penrith

A well manicured site and dead easy to find. Its the only place I have ever stayed at that you can walk to a nearby service station to pick stuff up late at night. Just off the A66 its easy to find and has great views across the fields. There is a local bus service to Penrith and if your feeling energetic you can use the cycle path to the center of Penrith. Not totally sure what the drama was in a previous review regarding a manhole cover. No issue with filling up with water for our motorhome. At £9.00 a night its a bargain.

Slapestone Villa, Penrith.. A real gem

This CL has 5 hardstanding pitches with EHU, and is easily access off the A66 from the M6, 2 mls away, towards Keswick. There are good views towards the Ullswater hills, and has a bus stop directly outside of the site, with an hourly bus service to both Keswick, and beyond, & Penrith in the other direction, where there is both an Aldi and a Morrisons for ones supplies. The whole of the Northern Lakes, are just on one's doorstep. as is the Cross Fell area of the Pennines! The site is about 500m of Rheged Centre where there a few local shops and is an exhibition centre. The National Cycle Route to Keswick passes by the site and there's a quiet lane and footpaths over the local fields close by suitable for walking one's dog(s). The site is a real value at only £9 per night and we will certainly use it again.

motorhome fresh water

For the price this site was excellent and I won't enlarge as other reviews have done that well enough. My reason for reviewing, and it's the only review I've ever done, is to inform motorhome users of the awkward access to fresh water. The only tap is situated on the drive of the owners bungalow - the oppsite side to the site entrance which means going back out on to the road. The owner isn't always in but thank goodness he was to tell us not to drive over the man-hole cover on his drive; He's had two broken to date. My advice - make sure you are full of fresh water before arrival.

Lovely

Just returned from this site after a 1 night last minute trip (only 1/2 hr from home) - took meal from home, bottle of wine and enjoyed the view on immaculate site - what more could we ask for on a Saturday night out!

grass or hard standing. All perfect

Stayed for 4 nights in mid June. Easy access being only a short drive to M6 with no narrow lanes. Just follow instructions or sat nav. Warm and friendly greeting from owners daughter. Choice of hard or grassed pitches with beautiful views. Hard standings on a slope.Electricity, water and waste disposal conveniently placed. The location is ideally placed for visits to Ullswater and main lake district attractions. Local village has a well stocked small shop and pub. Highly recommended site for location and price. Will definitely stay here again.

Must be one of the best

Have been using this CL since 1981 and just when you think it could've get any better, it just did. Harry is such a gentleman and enjoys a chat with his visitors..The electric hookups and hard standings on some pitches are a wonderful addition on this immaculate site..The views down to Ullswater from the site are constantly changing from first light to evening twilight..Ten minutes steady stroll to Stainton village takes you to an excellent village pub, friendly landlord and fantastic food.
