Gem of a site

Slapestone Villa
Just arrived back from this fantastic little site. Amazing views from any of the hard standing pitches. Easily accessible off the m6. 4 miles from Ullswater so easy access to walk or visit the tourist places but then come back to peace and tranquility. We visited the pub which does excellent food and very busy, we did find out it did take outs as well. The owner who lives in the bungalow adjacent to the site was very helpful. A very enjoyable weekend.

What a gem of a site

Slapestone Villa
What a lovely site with bus stops almost at the site entrance affording easy access via public transport to Keswick in one direction and Penrith in the other. Yes, the site is slightly sloping but that gives you a better view from the two pitches set slightly further back and there are levelling blocks left out for you to use. Easy to navigate entrance and the site is only a couple of miles from the M6 so ideal for a stop-over if you need one yet well-positioned for a longer stay should you choose to visit the area. Ullswater is a short ride away and the steamer up and down the lake is great. We were made very welcome by several of the 'regular' visitors to the site, some of whom have been coming for years. The owner made us very welcome, giving us details of places to visit and the bus times. TV reception good and the hard-standing on all 5 pitches means easy manoeuvring and pulling on and off. We plan to stay at the site again in order to visit the wider area. We were only there for 3 nights but will be staying longer next time.

Good for more than a Stopover point at Penrith

Slapestone Villa
It would be easier and quicker to name the things that are poor with this CL rather than list all of the good points but when I've come to think of the poor things then they aren't really that bad. You have to drive over grass to reach 3 of the 5 Hardstanding pitches! But even after heavy persistent Lake District rain the ground underneath was firm and we had no problem exiting the site on it. Um... oh yes, the traffic noise? Nope, had worse on country farm sites miles from the nearest main road. Yes it is there but drops off at night and no noise from the nearby M6. That's it folks. The rest is all good including the splendiferous view. The owners even supply wooden blocks for pitching if you can't get level. Shops are nearby in Penrith. Bus stops right outside the CL to take you to Keswick or Penrith or even Workington should you so desire. Plus at £12 a night it still represents excellent value. So there you have it. A really good CL.

The best view from caravan window!

Slapestone Villa
We love this C L, very easy access from from M 6. Bus stop outside the gate, into Keswick and beyond. Owners are very friendly. Even in poor weather the view is great. Good hardstandings and the site is kept very tidy.

The best CL we have been too in our limited yrs of Caravanning.

Slapestone Villa
We arrived on a damp and windy Sunday afternoon and after getting the legs down and sited, Andrew decided to come and ask if we wouldnt rather have the beautiful view down the Valley? So we whipped the legs and 4 of us managed to spin the twin wheeler round. It is a fantastic little site within easy reach of the M6 and A66 and we found the access rather easy but did swing wide with the size of van. The owners Thelma and Andrew cant do enough for you and only need to ask for any directions etc. We have been very lucky in the full wk here that it only rained thru the day fully on one occasion, the rest was all overnight. We were sat outside on the chairs during the afternoons even though a little chilly at times but so tranquil looking down the valley. We have already booked for next yr and we will be paying it a visit in the not too distant future as well. Thank you Thelma and Andrew for a great wk.
