A Little Haven

What a gem of a site very peaceful and relaxing. When we arrived Mrs Johnson met us and informed us where to locate our motorhome and advised us where things were. The CL site has large pitches with plenty of water taps and ehu. The waste disposal site is situated in this field. We were in the field called Beeches which has room for 3 caravans/motorhomes. The grass was immaculate maintained and reasonably flat with water taps and ehu. There is a small information shed at the entrance to the Beeches that has a vast amount of information regarding forth coming events, bus routes etc. (Mind your head coming out). There are plenty of dog walks near by as the site is on the edge of National Trust woodland. We walked into Richmond via the main road which was quite scary as the cars tend to travel with some speed on the road. We got a taxi back which only cost £5.50. There is a small shop and a pub in the village if you do not want to walk into town. Value for money at £12 per night.

Scar Close, near Richmond

This is a large nicely kept field with a central road and grass pitches on both sides with electric hook up and water taps. There is a gravelled car park area that can be parked on if raining, but there are no electric hook ups in this area. There is a gate at the bottom of the CL which connects with the National Trust woodland area. A leaflet in the information shed shows walks in the area of varying lengths and degrees of abilities and includes a riverside walk to Richmond. Once through the woods the scenery is spectacular. There is recycling on site and the toilet is a portaloo within a small shed, which is perfectly adequate. The grass can be a bit soft when it has rained, even though we used plastic under tyre treads, we still managed to leave a tyre mark, for which I apologise. We did not visit Hudswell although we would if we stayed for a longer visit. Mrs Porter was very friendly and helpful, I would recommened this site and would certainly return for hopefully a longer visit.

Very pleasing CL

The best things about this site for me are the tranquil surroundings -- the loudest sounds are bird song and the Jacobs sheep in the next door field -- and the availability of dog walking off the site but without needing to use the car or venture on to the road. The site abuts some woodland owned by the National Trust. You can walk (steeply) down to the River Swale and Richmond is said to be a 45 minute walk. This is an excellently maintained CL. It is more or less level and there is plenty of room. So you can find a level pitch without too much difficulty. The electricity supply is adequate for using a kettle and there is a water tap beside each electricity pillar. The waste area is close and easy to use. The welcome from Mrs Porter was very pleasing.

Very Nice CL

Took a chance on this CL, and very glad we did. Plenty of space, reasonably flat, with short mown grass. Gets waterlogged easily, so 4 X 4 a bonus. Owners friendly and welcoming. We used our own facilities. Usual basics, EHU, water and waste. Good dog walk from site. Caution needed when coming in via Richmond due to road humps!

Lovely Richmond

We found the CL to be very peaceful with good space to pitch your caravan or motorhome. Good electric points with water taps near by. We were in the lower field which slopes a little and the ground can be a bit soft in places. The wild life is just great, bird song, rabbits and the dear in the nearby fields, the owls hooting at night is also is just good to hear.  The site is excellent for touring the local area either west or east, Richmond is a beautiful market town complete with the castle. Would recommend to stay at any time of the year.

A good CL but with reservations.

When we initially booked the CL only the second area was available (Google earth - area behind row of parked cars) on reflection we telephoned and rebooked a week later for nine nights on the main CL so glad we did. Main CL is a good size but the second pitching area is what I would describe as a small car park, during our stay on occasion there were 5 vans were pitched here the first van to arrive pitched in the centre of the small grass area and erected an awning consequently when others arrived there was decreasingly no room between their vans for their cars or awnings The footpath immediately off the site runs along the scar, in places it is a near vertical drop for a considerable distance, extreme care is needed. The positives are the main site is large with views and well spaced out electricity points and water taps. Catterick and Richmond (5 minutes by car) provides ample supermarkets, we preferred Catterick as Tesco is large with easy parking. Richmond town parking is by disc fortunately a leaving member gave us theirs. The dales are on the doorstep and all in all we enjoyed our stay despite the atrocious weather (CL was difficult to manoeuvre as the grass was waterlogged in places)

Perfect Weekend

We have stayed at this CL on a number of occasions. It is basic but is in A lovely location being within easy reach of Richmond and in the lovely village of Hudswell with the fantastic George and Dragon pub a 5 minute walk away The Site has 2 separate areas for pitching and we have always found it to be lovely and quiet Give it a try I'm sure you will enjoy it
