Great little site for a short break

We've just returned from a 4-night stay at Salcote Hall - an ideal location from which to catch up with friends and family in Maldon (where we lived many moons ago). A delightful, well tended CL with grass pitches (we had a call on our way there to let us know which pitch we should use, as two pitches were waterlogged). Made to feel very welcome, and visited routinely each morning by the bunnies and the ducks. Had plenty of £1 coins at the ready for the electric meter, but used less than £2 each day, despite having the heater on each evening. For visitors new to the area, I can recommend the Lock Tea Room and Jolly Sailor pub at Heybridge Basin (free car park at Daisy Meadow), the Queen's Head on the quayside in Maldon and the Chequers Inn at nearby Goldhanger - dating back to the 15th century with a varied history as a smuggler's haunt, coach house and alehouse - and some of the best pub food in the area. Fresh local produce is a short walk away at Jacobs Farm (including yummy Tiptree strawberries). (Note for CMC - this CL is listed incorrectly on your website as Saltcote Hall, so Salcote Hall cannot be found on your search engine).

Comment from the CL Owner

Thank you for your lovely review. Our site is actually Saltcote Hall, as listed.

Very nice CL in great location.

We spent 3 days on this CL which is in a great location for visiting local attractions. Very warm welcome on arrival to this very nicely kept CL. Toilet and shower closed due to covid but we always use own facilities so no problem to us. Metered Electricity a great idea as you pay for what you use. Water heater, low wattage kettle, fridge, batt and phone charger just £1 a day for us. Would definitely visit again thank you.

Great Site

Enjoyed 6 nights on site and was made most welcome by Karen & Andrew, the site is very well kept and secure, and although they are generally on site, you are left to enjoy your stay. With reference to earlier comments on cost of electricity, two showers a day, tv, iPad & phone recharging metered at less than a pound a day, with the pitch @ £12, very good value in my books. We will definitely use again. And lastly, our dog Wilf, had a great time. Malc, Ems & the Wilf.

Lovely Site

Great welcome from Andrew and Karen, well keep site good location for Heybridge and Maldon. We only spent couple of night here but will be back. No problems with EHU only cost us £2.00 while we were there so don't be put off. you can walk or cycle to both Heybridge or Maldon, nice pub at Heybridge The Old Ship (great food).

Well-laid out site, with areas of interest within walking distance.

Stayed 2 nights. Showers etc shut due to COVID-19, but still £12 per night plus metered electricity - £2 per about 24 hours for our motor home. We didn't find a sea wall within 1 minute, so the blurb might be a typo and have meant 15 mins. Flat firm grassed field behind farm barn. Some road noise, but a small field away. 15 min walk along a road to Heybridge Basin. Short stretch without a pavement which was a bit scary as busy at the weekend, although the beer in the pub at the end was good which helped. Basin has a lock and lovely circular walk including along the navigation - which our dog enjoyed swimming in. We used the bus to get to Maldon (timetables revised due to COVID-19) and then walked out the the National Trust's Northey Island (requires pre-booking). Enjoyable spot. Plenty around to see if you have a car.

Perfect Weekend

We have just returned from a weekend at Saltcote Hall. A beautiful and very well looked after CL site. Friendly owners and clean facilities. Bin area with recycling, toilet and shower room, fresh drinking water, and chemical waste facilities. Plenty of space for the children to run up and down overlooking fields. A peaceful setting only a 10-15 minute stroll to Heybridge Basin with a great enclosed play park, a small river for the dog to splash in and grass area for the dog to run around. You can walk along the basin which made a lovely evening walk. Great local fish and chip shop next to a convenient ASDA and other takeaway/shops. A short drive into Maldon where there is a large pirate ship park, boats, cafes, maze, and shops. Lovely large sunny pitch with electric hook up meters. We set up our wildlife camera and caught the resident Fox and her cub! Children and dogs welcome. A super weekend and only 20mins from our home! We will definitely be back! 5* site. One of the best we have stayed at.

Really nice site.

This is a really nice CL which we will be heading back to soon. The owners were laid back and helpful, the site was clean and very well kept. We were pleased to find it had a loo and shower on site, this was a nice bonus, both were clean and tidy. The shower was 50p for 6 mins which was more than I needed and it was hot. Electric was by metre (£1 coins) and worked out for us just under £2 a day, other people were doing £1. For us £15 with lecy and shower was great! The area is nice with fields and footpaths beside it, and the massive chigborough fishing lakes behind it. A walk across the road leads to Heybridge sea wall and basin, the basin is maybe 20 mins walk and has 2 pubs, both do ale and food, also a tea room. it all gets busy at weekends as it popular. Maldon prom and town is a bit further, with lots of shops and supermarkets. This is a nice bit of everything CL which suits us perfectly.

We love this site

We love this site, it's ideal for us visiting family and as a base for visiting Essex and Suffolk. The pitches and field are well maintained, and if the facilities are basic, they are very clean. We have never found the electric expensive, usually in summer we pay £1 a day and in winter about £2 ,the shower is always lovely and hot and one token usually is plenty. We have many times paid more than £12 a night for sites that don't even have toilets and showers. We have only ever been treated with helpfulness and friendliness by Andy and Karen. We look forward to visiting regularly.

Great CL site position for exploring Maldon

We found this site to be ideal for exploring nearby Maldon both on foot and by cycle, there is a footpath that links the site to Maldon and also one that follows the nearby canal which is also worth a visit. The site was well maintained and the toilet and shower an unexpected bonus on a CL site, the owner was very knowledgeable about the local area having been born in the nearby village. We considered at £12 a night this to be very good value for money compared to similar sites we have used before and we would certainly return again in our motor-home.
