I chose this CL as it was close to the A30 (in fact that is all you can hear)and would enable easy access to the rest or Cornwall. I had tried by email and phone to contact Dave, the owner, prior to our arrival but didn't receive any response. We were relieved that he did answer the phone on our arrival. Dave spoke about the site and gave us some useful information including that the Hot tub and Sauna were not working/not available. On inspection later, I don't believe these have been in a working condition for some time and so should be removed from the CL description as amenities available for users. The hard standing and toilet block are situated some distance apart and there is no dry path available to walk along. The grass is overgrown and following the rain we had and the tractor driving over the grass it is wet, muddy and very challenging to walk on. The photographs showing the site are not current and do not give an accurate representation of the CL. We have visited many CL sites and rely on accurate descriptions of the site and amenities for us to choose if we are going to visit, this CL needs to have it's description updated. We love visiting Cornwall but when we do again it will not be to use this CL.
a slight slopinging cl with good drainage. Dave gave us a warm welcome and info needed.
There is the constant hum of the A30 traffic going past at speed but on the upside you can easily get onto the road for travelling up and down the length of Cornwall now the A30 is fully open, St Austell and Padstow are North and South and easy enough.
toilets and showers are kept clean and the hot tub is now back in action after repair although we did not use it or the WiFi as 4G on the phones.
only draw back was the wet grass walk to the toilet block but the mower man had not been last week so wet feet were the norm on the walk until the sun finally arrived.
Dave the owner is very accommodating we would use again if that way
This site has great facilities: the shower and toilets were in perfect condition and spotlessly clean, the wifi connection was top class, better than at home, and free! The owner, Dave, was welcoming and friendly. There was a bit of traffic noise but, as other reviews say, you soon get used to it so it wasn't really ever a bother. As a motorhomer without alternative transport, I would have liked a good bus service nearby but taking the vehicle out every day to visit different places wasn't too big a problem.
Having accepted the location of this site adjacent to the A30 we have just had an exceptional 4 nights there. There is some Road noise but after a day or so you really dont realise. The owner Dave was very friendly, accommodating and gave us a very warm welcome. The field was great for the dog and also just up the Road are dog paddocks called Brynn Hill if you require something more secure. We travelled to the South Coast and spent a day at the Lost Gardens of Heligan which was about 20 minutes away. The gardens are mindblowing and well worth a visit. We also visited Da Bara artisan bakery who make the most amazing bread. They are situated in Indian Queens which is about 10 minutes away. The North Coast beach of Mawgan Porth which is dog friendly is just over 15 minutes away is also very accessible which makes this location so ideal.
As expected there is some road noise. Being located so close to the a30 this is a given, but it is in no way obtrusive. The views and excellent facilities more than make up for it. Perfect location for exploring the local area as well.
The pitches are slightly sloping, but firm hard standing all the way from the road so no worries whatever the weather.
Dave was very welcoming and took the time to tell us what was around us and where was best to visit. Overall a site I would visit again without hesitation. Spot on.
Starting with the positives the location is good for the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan and indeed for touring the rest of the county. The owner met us on arrival and was friendly enough but no maps or information on local amenities. Unfortunately you couldn’t walk anywhere from the site because there were no kerbs and the surrounding roads were dangerous. The major draw for us was the 4 acre dog area but unfortunately the grass was knee high and soaking wet in September so even the dog didn’t fancy it. The 200yd walk to the toilet/shower block was also wet and muddy and a bit of paving wouldn’t go amiss there. The 2 toilets and 1 shower were basic but adequate for 5 pitches. The hot tub was out of action fortunately 🙂 some traffic noise is an understatement being next to two busy roads and the noise was 24/7. Personally it was not our cup of tea and really disappointing that the dog couldn’t enjoy it, but I would just say it’s cheap and cheerful, very laid back, bring wellies and ear plugs.
Easy to access and a great welcome from Dave: unusally, the directions are spot-on. 'Facilities' are excellent: just that the weather (mid-October 2019) made the walk there pretty muddy so a hard path would have helped.
The pub in Roche is excellent and a meal is recommended.
Excellent location for travelling around Cornwall - only a short drive from the Eden Project and Wheal Martyn. Big field to exercise the dogs, and we didn't have to pay for the shower or the use of WiFi (this was the owners not Caravan Club, so you could access everything for free!). There is some constant road noise, but the owners helpfulness and extra facilities more than make up for it. A very open site with plenty of room.
we used this site for two nights to visit the Eden Project. The location was perfect for this, just 7 mins drive away. David the host was fantastic, so helpful and friendly. He provided us with cable protectors so that we could pitch where we wanted and still protect our power cable. We also heard he had helped another camper the night before when storms were trying to blow away their awning. The toilets and showers are basic but are kept clean and the shower hot and good. The traffic can be heard as close to the main road, but the location and accessibility make up for it.
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and found it to be extremely convenient for many places in Cornwall. We visited Mevagissey and Fowey with ease. The site was great value and our dog had a fantastic time as he could run free!
Dave was a very friendly and helpful host and the shower and toilet block were spotless. Would definitely stay there again.
