Peaceful stay in middle of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve

Trisha and Steve, our hosts and owners of River Brede Farm site, set in the beautiful Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, have worked so hard to make this new site work well for visitors and it does! A very peaceful rural spot with views to Rye, Winchelsea and the ruins of Camber Castle, all within easy walking distance. We were welcomed on site by the owners, shown our pitch and given plenty of local information. They have created an information shack with lots of up to date local info, leaflets and maps to help visitors make the most of their time there. Everything was clean and tidy, well marked pitches with electric hookups and water tap. Plenty of public footpaths from the site as well as cycle paths along the coast to Winchelsea Beach, Rye Harbour and beyond. Delicious lunch at Los Gringos Mexican restaurant in Rye, and a Greek meal at William The Conquerer pub at Rye Harbour. Also worth a visit are the Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Discovery Centre which has an excellent choice of sandwiches, cakes and coffees as well as binoculars to watch the many birds on the salt marsh. Very good wheelchair access here and in their bird hides. We enjoyed walking to Rye along the river Brede from the site, stopping at Camber Castle which is just 10 mins away. The Halpin bird hide was fascinating - literally a window onto the water, and all sorts of birds to see nesting and using the water. Highlights of the visit to River Brede Farm were the warm, attentive owners, hearing the cuckoo every day, wonderful dawn chorus and peace and quiet. We hope to return regularly.
