Ease of arrival/welcome

A spacious, well kept site surrounded by countryside

We stayed a couple of nights, mainly to meet up with some old friends as I grew up in the next village called Hemingford Grey. The owner - John Saunders - met us on arrival; he was very cheerful and it was very helpful to be shown where everything is: EHU, toilet and waste disposal and fresh water. The site is really spacious with lots of room to spread out on the grass, which is kept short and tidy. There are a few fruit trees along one edge and a small stream on the other side. The site is very dark at night and we enjoyed a couple of star-filled evenings. The site is close to access routes to Cambridge, Huntingdon and the lovely market town of St Ives. We'd booked a table at the Axe and Compass pub in the village, about a 10 minutes walk from the site. The food was good, plenty of choice of beers and wines and everyone was very friendly. From there you can walk through the meadows along the Great Ouse to the next village of Hemingford Grey, with a beautiful church by the river (we were married there almost 40 years ago!) and a pub with an excellent restaurant. Although I know the area well, we hadn't stayed at this CL before but would definitely return when visiting friends again.
