Experienced Motorhomer

We have stayed on this site many times the last time being on the 13/4, its a great place to see Northumberland or as a stop over on the way to and from Scotland. I have to disagree with Gordan and Sue, we are onto our 4th Motorhome so have a lot of experience of both CL's and main club sites. We never travel without 1) a water carrier and 2) a waste hog as we do not expect or normally get a motorhome disposal point on a CL or the type of water filling system that you would expect on Club sites. These extra's are what you pay for usually twice as much as a CL. On the 14th we moved to a commercial site and paid exactly £12 a night more and there was still no motorhome disposal point! Sam and Mike cannot control the weather and no experienced motorhomer would attempt to drive across the grass, in fact only in the height of summer would we even pitch on a grass only site. As with all reviews we all have our own views, we will continue to use Potland Farm as we always get a warm welcome.

Very dissapointing

It says this site is suitable for Motor homes, I disagree, there is no grey water disposal, to get to the water it is across about 25yds of grass (Too soft to drive on) so you have to borrow a long hose from the house but you can't do that because if it's your 1st visit you don't know because during the day as both the owners work & if you have an issue there is no emergency contact displayed, we had an issue & had to go through the Caravan Club to try & get in touch with them. It was very wet when we stayed & everything turned into a mud bath as again you had to cross the very wet grass to get to any of the facilities. speaking of these the owner told us the toilet does not have toilet paper, soap or hand drier (1st time ever I have come across that) In all the years I have traveled my Motor home & car have never been so dirty inside as you could not avoid the mud, how anyone can give this site a good review is beyond me. One review said the road next door has pot holes well so does this one, If the CC has any respect for it's name they should remove this one from its web site

Comment from The Club

Many thanks for leaving a review.  The CL owners have been in touch as they want to address your concerns as they make every effort to ensure people have the best possible time at their site.  The owners advise each person at the time of booking what the weather has been like recently and how that has affected the ground conditions. Members at this time of year are advised to keep to the hardstanding area as the ground has been wet and is therefore muddy.  As a matter of courtesy the owners also advise visitors coming to stay what time you can expect to see them on site. Toilet paper is not supplied as people have different requirements and visitors are advised of this upon arrival however, hand sanitiser is provided.  As you can see from other reviews the owners always try to be warm and friendly and many guests return again and again and this is reflected in the many positive reviews they have received.   I hope this helps to address your concerns and thank you again for leaving a review.

A Nice Cl

If you are using sat/nat to get hear it takes you down a road full of large pot holes - it is the next road you need to take. Beside the site is a small commercial site that advertised a bar but we were informed that it is not always open - there was no noise at all from the site.  There was slight traffic noise but nothing to spoil your stay.  The pitches are hard standing and large and there is a nice walk if you turn left out of the site and walk a little way along - you then come to a nature trail walk. Turning left you can walk into a small village with a pub.  The waste disposal is cornered off and clean.  The cost was £11 a night with electricity extra. The owner takes a meter reading when you arrive/leave. We stayed one night and the cost was £2.80.  The owner is very friendly and helpful.

Excellent CL

We stayed for 3 nights in August on this well maintained spaced out site, we enjoyed the amazing colours in the sky at sunset, and the view over the fields during the day. The site is located in beautiful country side with easy access to Morpeth and other towns. Made to feel very welcome by the owners. Lovely stay and will hopefully visit again. Lois and Erwin

welcoming hens and very frendly owners willing to help

As with previous caravanners I must say the camp site was all to be admired with great hard standing pitches , plenty of space between caravans, electricity and water within easy reach. Toilet and Mike is busy building a shower cubicle. Great site for visiting the area either Northumberland or Newcastle, a stones throw from the beach.Definitely recommend and will be back .Denis & Moira

A friendly welcome to a great little spot

We were greeted by Mike on arrival, ( and the friendly chickens!) and shown the facilities which are very good. Little touches like flat concreted area for fresh water and grey water disposal, + a bit of hose just the right length on the taps. Nice clean toilet and washbasin also. Site has lovely views although this does lead me to our only gripe about the place. There are 6 electric hook ups, five of them numbered 1-5. All the time during our stay there was an extra caravan on the 6th unnumbered pitch and obscuring our view out of our caravan. On the final night of our stay a 7th unit was also allowed on.  If I buy something in the supermarket I expect the package to contain what the pack says it contains, when I go to a CL I expect it to have no more than 5 units including ours, because that is what we are paying for.   Mike and Sam are great hosts but need to take care that they don't spoil their reputation, I suspect by being a bit of a soft touch when people who haven't booked turn up struggling to find a pitch.  We would certainly go back... But only if we've booked!

Happy returns - Well it always is!

My wife & I have used this CL a few times now and although it's not far from home it's pleasing to be there. You'll get a warm welcome from the owner Mike who is constantly looking to make improvements to the site - it's always well kept. The other bonus is it's an entry gate to "The Secret Kingdom" of Northumberland that has numerous castles including Alnwick Castle where some of the Harry Potter films where shot. Bamburgh Castle is another location that is not at all far away. The nearby towns of Ashington & Morpeth provide all you need. There are some CL's I won't return to but I'm more than happy to return to Potland Farm. Oh and you can get the best free range eggs I've ever tasted :)

Just about perfect

Electric hookups, hardstandings, plenty of space, well positioned for Newcastle and beautiful coastline mean this CL is a real gem. A warm welcome from the owners who made a point of being around in case anything is needed or just for a chat were a bonus, as were the eggs from the chickens who roamed free and provided entertainment! Want to visit the North East? Portland Farm Cottage CL is highly recommended.

Brilliant first outing

We hadn't realised our review of this site had not been submitted correctly so here goes .... Stayed at this little Gem of a site in July 2014. It was the first outing in our new Lunar caravan and Mike and Sam the owners were very helpful with advice about the local area and provided breakfast in the form of fabulous fresh farm eggs!!. When I asked for advice in relation to the van Mike was extremely knowledgeable and explained in terms I understood (being a newby to the world of carvanning.) Although it is a basic site the views and accessibility to the wonderful Northumbrian area is second to none. The site is cosy and feels very safe but don't mistake it for the site next door which is very different. We are returning very soon :-)

Nice site, friendly owner, recommended!

Have just come back from a weekend here and had a really good time. Site is very pleasant, owner really helpful with leaflets about things to do and directions. Also let us leave the van on the site until late afternoon so that we could go off and enjoy our last day without having to worry about taking the van with us. Downsides? It is fairly exposed and so you will notice if it is windy but it was so windy last weekend that I think you would probably have noticed the wind anywhere. Lots to do in the area, if you want a site then Potland Farm Cottage comes highly recommended!
