Had a nice stay at Port Arthur farm and facilities are good with shower room (with toilet) and a separate toilet and all were kept clean and well stocked. Great location to get out and about the area including Knaresborough, Harrogate and York and then more rural places like Ripley, Grassington, Otley and Ilkley.
What the husband liked best in respect of the site was that the grass was short and regularly cut, with grass cuttings collected. No groundsheets allowed on site, even breathable ones.
Lovely CL, very tidy hardstanding pitches, good location for a stopover. Graham was very friendly, we called on arrival and he headed straight down to greet us and explain where everything was. Added bonus of a small toilet block - two loos, a shower and washing up area which Graham has added some extra little touches such as soap, towels and loo rolls. EHU was included in the site fee. We caught the bus into Knaresborough, the stop is about 1/2 a mile from the site entrance you can also catch a bus to Ripon/York. Thoroughly recommend this CL.
Stayed for 4 nights over Easter Bank holiday weekend. Didn’t charge extra for BH which most sites do. EHU included too! Graham was friendly and showed us where everything was. Bless, he didn’t even seem interested in taking payment from us. Such a peaceful and relaxing break. Perfect for lots of lovely walks directly from site and handy for nearby Guy Fawkes pub which has lovely food! Had several hard standing level pitches. We chose one at bottom of field near a stream which was perfect. This was maybe why we couldn’t get any reception, but then, that added to the peacefulness. Definitely will be retuning.
We stayed here on the way to the Lake District the field is very large there is very little shade but fine if you like the sun there is an adjacent field for a short dog walk and Knaresborough is only a short drive away . The site dies have a toilet and shower we didn’t use either but an added bonus for those who like having facilities
There were only three hard standings in the main field so we pitched on grass but i5 looks as if you can also pitch on a large hard standing area the other side of the hedge
Overall a good place for a stop over and very quiet
This site is well maintained and looked after. Graham is very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The toilets and shower are kept clean and tidy.
The wildlife is wonderful, birds, stoats, rabbits, cows and sheep, enough to keep you occupied for hours.
We really enjoyed our stay, thanks Graham. Tony and Jean Petter
This is a decent CL, the grounds are well maintained and it is well located for local attractions and places to visit. We were pleased with the facilities, particularly a shower room/ wc and a separate wc as well and the price is decent value at £18.00 per night but we felt that the owner had lost interest.
We had to self-select our pitch and had to hope we got it right; there was no warm welcome and no answer at the house door. In fact, contact with the owners was non-existent until the second day of our stay and we waved him down when he was cutting the grass. The toilet and shower building is accessed is by stairs only and this is a little awkward when carrying a cassette since the chemical disposal point is here as well. The basin in the shower room/ wc has no hot water. Just outside the wc in the lobby there is a sink for hand washing and I wondered if this is also a dishwashing sink but the drainer is obstructed with an information leaflet display.
Finally, on the shower room etc, there were no covid-safe measures; no hand gel or similar and there were items in the shower room that should have been removed such as furry cushions and a woollen rug. We had to take our own toilet rolls with us for the first couple of days and there were no loo-brushes.
Outside, near the gate, is the grey-water disposal point is no more than a gully next to a fence and I found it impossible to shoot more than a fraction of my waste-master contents into the drain.
One last thing just to be aware of, the turn left into Port Arthur Farm is a bit tight.
On balance, I was a little disappointed given the ranking awarded this CL in 2016.
Another great stay been coming to this site for 5 yrs its only an hr from where we live but could be 500 and would still come to this site so peaceful & quiet spotless faultless, graham is always there if you need him nice 7 night stay shame about the weather but will be back again & again. great cl site .the wossie mob.
It was my first time in this area and I’m pleased to say it was a great choice of site.
On arrival I phoned graham and he promptly came out to greet me. I was travelling alone and he made sure I was ok to site my van and point out all the facilities on site.
The shower and toilet block are kept spotless. There are various recycling bins. Due to the heavy rain everyone was on hard standing but in summer the grass field looked perfect. All pitches are flat.
Nearest shop is about 1.5 miles away and information is available on site for all restaurants and attractions nearby.
Knaresborough is a wonderful place for anyone that has never been like myself and I imagine it to be really popular in warmer months.
All in all I think this site will warrant a revisit.
We have just come back from this gorgeous Adults only CL. Port Arthur Farm is about 7 minutes drive from knaresborough and 5 minutes from Nidd Gorge. It is situated in quiet surroundings and has a spotless toilet and shower room. Some of the pitches are hardstanding but there are grass pitches if you prefer them. There is EHU and recycling facitlies The owners are a lovely couple and have run this site for over 5 years
What a find this CL site is. We originally booked to arrive on Wed but the weather was atrocious so we phoned Graham to cancel and he could not have been nicer. We decided to try for 3 nights ( Fri to Mon ). Although the site was full on Friday Graham managed to accommodate us until a pitch became available on Sat. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The site is flat and very open with plenty of room between pitches. Facilities spotless all the time we were there. Graham is a mine of local information and always finds the time to speak to you. Good walks around the site and plenty to explore in the area. Will definitely be back.
