Disappointing visit

We were recommended this site by some friends who had stayed there several years ago. Access the site is tricky as it is down a steep Hill ( Harris’s Hill, ok to come down, but you need a big engine to get back up) the entrance is narrow and over a small bridge that then leads into the Camp site with a narrow entrance next to a stream, through two stone pillars. Large vans beware! We were then greeted by the owner who treated us as if we were newbies, even although we have been caravanning for over 30 years. We were put on the smallest pitch which had a slope on the right hand side down to an enclosed vegetable garden. There was only one Motorhome on the site at that moment and one that arrived shortly after us. We put up the awning which had two pods for our grandsons to sleep in ( age 10 and 8) and a storage tent. Our daughter and her husband and children arrived later that day. We discussed this and parking with the owner. Later the next day we were approached by the owner and his wife who were very unhappy with us erecting extra tents and not telling them. Also that two families were staying, which was not true as we are the grandparents and are one family, which we stated. Of course the only extra tent was a small storage tent, the pods are part of the awning. The reason given for the extent of their disapproval was the grass beneath the pods and tent would die. We had a breathable carpet in the awning, which was questioned disbelievingly, and we agreed to lift the pods as well as we could. By now my 8 year old grandson was distraught and had to be calmed down. There was some mumbling about charging extra for larger groups and that we hadn’t informed them. But we honestly couldn’t remember if we had or not, as we had never had to on any other five site we had stayed on. We did not feel welcome at all, and were berated for not doing the rubbish properly, although the system operated had not been explained to us. We left two days early, but paid for the full time booked. The site itself was very pleasant, in an orchard, the four other pitches being far larger and flatter then ours. There was a picnic table on each pitch and your own bin. However do ask about the rubbish disposal policy on site. Access is tricky, and we would suggest it is more suitable for smaller vans and motor homes and older couples.
