Fabulous peaceful site

We have been coming here regularly for 6 years and have seen the changes and improvements that Rita and Maurice have made. A very friendly site, so peaceful and relaxing.Very reasonably priced - we generally use less than £1 per night electricity. Lots to do within easy reach and we made some new discoveries this time of lovely dog friendly cafes in Fraisthorpe - fab beach - and Helmsley. We also managed our old favourite at Hunmanby Gap after a lovely walk on the beach. We will be back in few weeks for another stay. Thank you Rita, Maurice and Meg

Perfect at Pear Tree

Stayed two nights at beginning of Easter weekend. It was a last minute booking and Rita couldn't have been more helpful. Arrived on a hot Thursday afternoon to a very warm welcome. The site is idyllic. Peaceful and exceptionally well maintained and shower and toilets were spotless. Surrounding area is great for cycling and walking and food at local dog friendly pubs was excellent. Can't wait to return. Thank you Rita and Maurice. Chris and Cath, Bury

Controversial

The introduction of electric meters is understandable and probably the future. However, for me it's a bother I can do without so won't return. A hotel wouldn't have them in the rooms. I'm really mean with money and hated checking the meter every 2 hours and got well stressed leaving the site with more credit than when I arrived. They aren't overcharging the rate which is a credit to the owner's. Tall hedges are subjective, wind break or view? In God's own country give me the view please. Very well kept site. I couldn't find the chemical toilet empty place which was hugely embarrassing, won't go into details. On departure was shown where by other guest. The sign is totally illegible even so I'm amazed I didn't see it. It was well camouflaged. The most brilliant gardens nearby at Scamston aren't mentioned, so I have. 2 nearby pubs, one has been modernised with horrible kitchen style fitted bar top and in my view ruined though I never saw it before. Other one is extremly nice with roaring open fire with pricey good food served by a potentially grumpy landlord, great beer though. I do hope the meters don't put people off visiting but do wonder that the British people don't like to moan about things and simply vote with their feet. The meters must have cost a lot. Beautiful area

Little Gem in NorthYorks

What a gem this site turned out to be. Our first time at this site run by a really pleasant couple Maurice and Rita and ably supported? by their little “girl” Meg. All reasonably level hardstandings that a couple of which require levellers. Wonderfully situated with great views from our pitch over the fields towards Weaverthorpe. Very well kept grass and plenty of room. Don’t be put off by having to pay extra for electricity it worked out at just under 86p a day over the 14 nights we were there. Very nice dog friendly pub a half mile walk from the site. Easy access to local towns and the coast. Thanks again both and look forward to booking again.

!st Outing of New Caravanners

We are brand new to caravanning and this was our outing. When booking the site the owner asked if we had been there before and explained that it was our first outing. Immediate response of "we were caravanners, if you need help or assistance, just ask" This statement made me feel very comfortable about booking. On arrival, the welcome was so warm and helpful. Easy to understand explanation of how we could use the site facilities. The site is tidy and extremely well maintained. We will without question return to the site again. I would also comment that we met 3 couples from Northumberland and I do not think that we could ever meet nicer people. Our first outing and we cannot wait to do the next. 5* Rating all round

Tidy little CL

Just back from a four night stay at this CL. On arrival, the owners, Maurice and Rita, weren't around, which was fine, as there is an arrivals board with your name, showing which pitch you have been allocated. We were mid set up when Maurice wandered over to welcome us. The pitches are gravel hard standings but as we like our awning to be on grass (it's horrid on your feet and uncomfortable for the dogs, in my view to be on gravel/hardcore), we had pitched towards the edge of the standing, so that our awning was on the grass. Maurice said that he would usually ask that caravans are positioned so that the awning is not on the grass, however, as the awning was almost fully up, he was not going to be asking us to move. He checked that we use a breathable groundsheet - we do- and allowed us to pitch the way we had chosen. Maurice and Rita are a lovely couple, friendly, warm and welcoming. They are always near by to help but are not intrusive. Maurice keeps the site immaculately presented. The grass is short and the clippings collected as he mows. The toilet/shower block is a portacabin at the bottom of the field, a single toilet and sink in one side, a toilet and shower in the other. Both were clean all the time we were there. Sadly, due to some visitor's over use of electricity, the couple have had to put pay meters in for electricity- but our four night stay used less than a pound per night, which is fine. I think if you are a heavy user (extra halogen heaters etc etc) it would cost you a lot more but we used all standard items - fridge, hot water, lights, kettle, toaster and thought the cost (which is set at the same tariff of domestic users, not inflated) wasn't excessive. If, like us, you are dog owners, it's useful to be aware that there are no off lead dog walks anywhere in the immediate locality. There are some quiet country lanes nearby but we found it a tad frustrating to have to take our dogs on road walks, on leads the whole time. There are two pubs within walking distance, at least one of them is dog friendly. Our holiday neighbours visited and were able to take the dogs in. We didn't eat there, our neighbours said that food was around £14 per main course. It depends where you are from as to whether you consider that good value or not. Access to local towns, Bridlington, Driffield, Malton and places such as Bempton Cliffs is easy from the site - though there is a lack of signage on some of the roads - so take your map! As to would we return? Well, we are the type of caravanners who rarely go back to the same site, so it's unlikely - but not because of the site, that's just how we like to do things. We usually choose Adult only sites, so for us, again a return visit wouldn't be on the cards as this is a family site. The difficulty in dog walking without driving somewhere is a downer for us too. That said, if this site ticks your needs boxes, then do go, you won't be disappointed, it's lovely.

Brilliant May Bank Holiday

Couldn’t have wished for a more friendly couple who run the site Maurice and Rita. Helpful and knowledgeable nothing was too much trouble. We even had weather on our side. Electric on a meter cost next to nothing for weekend. Will be back to see you soon and will definitely recommend to family and friends. Thanks again for a great weekend Mark and Sue pitch 1

What a fantastic weekend

Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner of this wonderful site where at the entrance, a sign with names of the people staying and which pitch you had been allocated introduced us to our fellow caravanners (nice touch). Now to the CL all marked out with large hard standing pitches with 16amp hookup which is on a meter but for the 4 days we were there we only put £4 in and left some on too so very reasonable I think not as other reviews stated. The owners of this site are also very knowledgeable of the area and full of useful info. Would we return ? That’s a deffinate yes and will do

Escape to the country

First of all the owners are lovely, couldn’t have been more helpful. It is a well laid out little site with gravel hardstanding pitches, grass a bit soggy but that is the season. Nothing is very far from your pitch. Electric hookup is supplied by a meter which takes £1 & £2 coins, we had our heating on low all the time as it was quite cold weather, used approx £6 for 24 hours. The shower room has a toilet and there is another separate toilet, all in a portacabin, there isn’t any heating in the portacabin. WiFi is available, small charge. We walked to the pub, The Star, excellent steak and accompaniments, perfectly cooked, cosy wood burners, warm welcome. There is another pub in the village both 15 minute walk.
