A hidden gem of peace and tranquility

We have just spent a two nights here and had a lovely break. Huge thank you to Sue (site owner) for the useful printed handout of local walks / delivery services and phone numbers, not to mention the kindly offered heat packs after I had had a fall whilst cycling. This site is perfect for those who want a quiet, secluded hideaway in the country, with access to a stunning coastline just a short walk away. We will definitely be returning!! Ian and Sarah

Welcoming and great location

This nice little CL lived up to its recommendation. A warm welcome on arrival from Sue set the scene for a very pleasant stay. Oak Cottage is well situated, shops and a nice pub are within a 5 minute walk and the nearest beach is less than 2 miles, much of it off-road (and off-lead for our free spirited dog!) Due to it being a small site with high trees the pitches are shaded at times, but this also provided welcome shelter against the 50+ mph winds which would have battered us on a more open site. Thank you for a delightful stay, Ivor, Marianne & Pepper

A good site But

We were looking forward to our stay here as we like the location and the reviews are good, so when we arrived we were a little disappointed by the site itself. The entrance is a bit tight and then uphill over a bridge, but not as bad as some we have been to. The site is enclosed by trees and has no view at all, also we arrived after a lot of rain and our pitch was at the end of the field, the field slopes to that end and the ground was very wet, because the field has only the 5 pitches there is no space to rotate occupancy so the pitch had little grass on it, I had to put the caravan in nose first so our door did not open onto very wet mud .The advertised walk to the beach is along roads and crosses a main road so not great for dog walking. Now after all that downside, the site owners are great and we had a warm welcome, the location is good and once the site dried out a bit it was much better, the electric point is on the pitch and had no problems, the site is well kept clean and tidy, there are trains running very close but they don't seem to run at night they start at 5.30am although we soon got used to this. The Elsan point is around the cottage and far from the camping field, which may be a problem for anyone with impaired movement.

Fantastic

We spent nine fantastic nights in May 21 at Oak cottage CL our third visit. There are five pitches with plenty of space between pitches. It is quite and peaceful yet central to Christchurch and Lymington. There is a short pleasant walk to Highcliffe castle and beach. A local pub is within walking distance. Sue and John have worked hard to make visitors feel safe during the Covid pandemic supplying hand gel and encouraging visitors to give each other space. Sue always gives a warm welcome and has excellent local knowledge which she is happy to share. Keep up the good work Sue and John See you soon Louise and Andy

Another lovely holiday.

We have enjoyed another lovely holiday at Oak Cottage. Always a warm welcome with a useful information pack. The site is great for access to the sea & the Forrest with plenty to explore & we found some lovely walks with the dog. This site is certainly on our list to visit regularly.

A little disappointed

Before I continue I must say that there is nothing wrong with the site itself or Sue it's owner! The thing is, its maybe just us, but we had this site in mind for ages because of the walk to the beach. When we arrived, we really thought the entrances to the wooded area was at the site itself but it isn't, its walk on a main road, about a quarter of a mile, then down a lane. There is only a short piece of woodland before walking across more roads to get there. This is not ideal when walking dogs. Needless to say we didn't do the walk again. However, the site is very central to lots of places but probably too much in the thick of things for us. It was quiet, train noise didn't bother us in the slightest. If you don't have animals then you would probably enjoy your stay here.

LOVELY SITE

Well what a wonderful little site this is and has everything you would need. Only 5 plots on site which was absolutely prefect for us. Each plot has so much room we managed to get our windbreakers up. We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome from Sue with a information pack which we found very useful. From walking to the beach to the local pub and take away deliveries. Sue was so friendly to us and our hairy son and ensure our stay was comfortable throughout the 3 days we were there. We had fish and chips delivered to site on the first night which I have to say were absolutely outstanding and the best we have tasted for a very long time. The site is in a lovely location Chewton Glen Hotel just up the road, local pub 5 min walk and the walk to the beach is roughly 20 minutes. We enjoyed it that much we have re-booked for August. Thank you again Sue and keep up the good work

Wonderful Site

Really nice site and very warm welcome from Sue. Quiet and peaceful and very well cared for. Everything you would expect from a quality site. We booked as we had bought tickets for the James Martin Cookery School ( The Kitchen at Chewton Glen) which was only a 7 min walk away. We enjoyed it so much we will definitely be back as it’s by far the closest site. Nice walk to the beach too and a nice pub just round the corner. You won’t find better than this....... Thanks again to the owners who made our 2night stay with them very special. Richard and Toni Jones
