Our first time here, we stayed 3 nights to break our journey from Portsmouth back to North Wales. We like to go "off grid" whenever we can and this site ticked all the boxes for us.
I don't think it's necessary to repeat the plus points written by previous reviewers they speak for themselves, it's suffice to say that John has put a lot of effort into making this CL a very effective Eco friendly site, it is a good model for other CL's to follow when electric hook ups are not required by members, EHU are not always necessary. Well done John, thank you for your warm welcome and good experience on your site. We will endeavour to come again as 3 nights was not enough!
Oh and by the way the wildlife is good here too, the red kite that regularly hovers over the site gave us a fine display when he swooped down on the site and took what was possibly a mouse for his snack, wonderful!
We Keep Coming Back
Our third visit, we were on our way home to Cumbria from Sussex and wanted to break the journey with a stopover. Newton Grove immediately came to mind because it is such a great CL. It is about 20 minutes from the M40 west of Banbury. Since our last visit in October the owner John has made yet more improvements with the addition of an information shelter with notice board, maps, brochures and site info. He has upgraded the mobile solar panel unit with a larger panel, and kept the previous solar panel for use also. Both free to use if required by visitors. The owner is very helpful. We witnessed this first hand during our recent visit when a couple arrived unaware that this is a non hook up site. Their leisure battery was flat and the site owner went the extra mile, charging their battery and hooking them up to the solar power unit.
The local pub, The Duck on The Pond is under new ownership and is now dog and family friendly.
This time we had a very pleasant easy walk from the site to the nearby village of Milcombe (with pub and village covenience store) using footpaths.
Stunning
We stayed at this site for 4 nights over Easter and we will definitely be returning soon, Newton Grove is a spacious site that is immaculately maintain by the very friendly owner. There are lovely walks all around passing the local Alpaca farms. There is a small playground 5 minutes walk from the site which is next to the local Church is and well worth a visit if it's open. We happily sat for a few hours watching the Swifts come and go from the nests on the church.
Our children (11,9 & 9) were more than happy to run around and explore the little wooded area and star gaze at night. I cannot recommend Newton Grove highly enough and can't wait to go again!
Excellent Find
Superb site, extremely clean and tidy, very quiet and with a friendly and helpful owner. Walking in this area is fantastic with many footpaths.
We would stay here again.
Second Visit - Still Great
This is our second visit this year (see review of 09/07).This is a lovely immaculately maintained site with excellent facilities. It is set in a peaceful and pretty location, well screened from the road making it very private. Access to the site is very secure via code padlocked gate on the entrance. Lots of thought given to details by owner John to make a stay on this site a pleasure. We would not hesitate in recommending this site and will certainly be back again.
Great little find
What a great little find! A gently sloping site with 2 hard standing at the bottom and a small one at the top of the site. A very well kept site, very private, clean and easy water access and chemical disposal areas. Recycling for everything. Well laid out hardstanding, and well managed by the owner John who answered texts and emails promptly when booking and wanting to extend our stay once we were here. He provides a great pack of maps and information for the local area. We cycled to Banbury one day, Hook Norton another day (30 minutes away, the brewery and museum, well worth a visit) and walked another day. There are great footpaths everywhere and the Duck on the Pond, the nearest pub (with wonderful food) is all of 3 minutes cycle downhill via footpaths and a short section of a quiet lane. There is a solar charging unit for phones, laptops etc if you need it. Dark clear skies and a full moon on our visit were magnificent. There are benches dotted around and slabs provided for people to put coal bbq's on so as not to burn the grass. There is also a chimnea and wood if people would like to sit around that at night. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend.
The bar has been raised.
Tempted to tell fibs and condem this site as a tip, with poor facilities and a miserable owner.
That way I can keep it all to myselfđ
The truth is that the site will be used to judge other clâs by, and unfortunately some of them will be found lacking.
We only stayed over one night, and a phone call secured us one of two hardstandings on a beautifully laid out site.
We were met at the gate and given a welcome pack, a nice touch, outlining the site facilities and the local walks, shops and eateries along with all the local emergency numbers you might need, vets etc.
The solar charging system was a first for me, a very clever idea which I can see being useful in a lot of ways. There are even jump start cables left out for use should you need them. (The solar array is on a small trailer, so can be easily moved)
Fresh drinking water tap is away from the black tap to avoid any chance of contamination, and the drive over grey dump point is good esp. for motorhomers, with the black dump point along side. Rubbish bins also in this area, so everything under âone roofâ.
The only slight criticism would be the slightly sloping nature of 75% of the site may cause levelling issues, more especially for motorhomes, with caravans probably less so.
I really do wish all success for this site. Really well thought out.

So peaceful
What a terrific site. So quiet and peaceful, lovely to sit and listen to the owls in the evening.
Being off grid is very easy for us as we have solar power and are self contained. As said before facilities have been well thought out and very clean.
I really wish we could have stayed longer, but we will be back as soon as we can.
First Class CL
We stayed for 3 nights at the end of June. The location of the CL is lovely, very peaceful and private, and a short walk from the pleasant village of South Newington (the food at the village pub is excellent). On arrival, John the owner couldn't have been more helpful and hands out a helpful file of local information that he has put together. The CL now has 3 hard standings, but with the dry weather we were happy to pitch on the well cut grass of the spacious field. There were 5 units on the CL when we visited but the large field meant everyone had lots of room.
This is an immaculately kept CL. Facilities are the best we have come across in all our visits to CL's. Clearly much thought and attention to detail has gone into its creation. The water points and chemical toilet emptying points are excellent, being separate and far apart thus minimising any possibility of cross contamination by users.
This was our first time spent without hook up. Long summer evenings meant minimal light usage, fridge and water heating were on gas, so we managed quite nicely. We did not miss the hook up, but had our battery needed it, there is a solar charging unit for visitors use. We would have tried this out but for the fact that our leisure battery is located under the floor of our Bailey motorhome making connections of the charging cables impractical. I expect though most caravans and motorhomes have more accessible batteries making the solar charger a great reason to try life without the mains.
We will definitely use this CL again when in Oxfordshire, and we have recommended it to other family members.
This is how it done
This is a lovely site, tucked away in the countryside, relaxing and peaceful setting. The owner has put thought and effort into this and it shows. This is a simple and immaculate site, with no EHU or toilet facilities but that is what gives it its added appeal and certainly suited us. There is a solar unit available to charge phones etc. The owner, John, met us with a friendly welcome and is very helpful. Lots of info on the site website and hard copies of info when you arrive, again thoughtfully prepared and presented.
This site is now one of our favourites and deserves and award.
