We stayed here 3 nights and our pitch was the one next to the waste disposal (an open toilet). No facilities available which we accepted but still to pay full price would have been ok if the site represented the photos. It’s more a car park on the corner of a junction, which people frequently missed so used the space in front of us as a turning point. Email asking for payment for a night longer than I booked, so had to get this corrected.
The main disappointment was coming back to our MH after a bike ride to find the road dug up in front of us and a large tractor and trailer on the side, we were blocked in...but electric had been turned off without warning!
I emailed the owner to complain/sort out who said she had no knowledge of the work (which is odd if it’s her land?) and said she would come by after work. We never met her!
We had to purchase more gas as the fridge used up most of our supply (we knew we were low, hence wanting electricity).
Won’t be returning. Fine for a night stop over but at £20 I’d question that now...next stop same price with full facilities (Kinlochewe).
stayed here in 2017, we were so sorry to hear about the passing of Willie the site owner , his daughter is carrying on in his memory , easy to find, lovely base for exploring Skye, fully serviced pitch, couldnt use showers or toilet because of covid, would highly recommend this site,
We stayed for 3 nights in June and my conclusion is that this site is an excellent site for motorhomes/campervans, looking for an overnight stop. The facilities are all as described and the owners are friendly and helpful, although we are led to believe they are planning on selling up soon. I agree with the other review, which said that the site isn't really what a lot of caravanners want. You can't really sit outside and enjoy the ambience as the site is very like a carpark, being comprised of gravel and not sheltered from the road. Both the road which passes along the front of the site and the one to the side (which leads to the fairy pools), are incredibly busy all day long (they are quiet at night though). Random people in cars did drive in and park up to take photos of the loch opposite and neighbouring Highland cattle! I didn't find the site relaxing at all due to the busy road and the fact that motorhomes arrived and left at varying times all through the day and night. Quite a few were obviously not caravan club members (Norwegian couple and large Spanish family for exampe) and they were quite noisy at dawn and midnight. There was nothing wrong with the site and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a one night stopover, but wouldn't recommend it as a relaxing holiday base.
Site hard standing with water and electric on the pitch. Facilities clean but we were on pitch 5 so the facilities blocked our view of the loch. Also the chemical waste facility is a toilet that faces this pitch (not really what I want to look at). Unfortunately, passing motorhomes stopped to empty chemical waste and grey water and some just parked up for the night even tho the site was full. We cannot comment on the manager as his house had recently burnt down so he had other worries but was very pleasant when we did meet him. No information room.
We booked 5 nights at this CL and found it a great location to explore the island from. The fairy pools are a short drive away and Glenbrittle beach.
The site is fairly level and is a gravel surface, ideal for our Moho but maybe not what a caravan user would prefer. This isn’t the type of site you set up with awnings and deckchairs in my opinion. Access is easy and just off the road but the road is quiet at night.
The walk to the village and distillery is around 20 minute but beware the walk back is uphill. Peter was a nice chap, friendly and helpful.
We didn’t use the shower or wc so cannot comment but it all looked ok.
WIFI was good but no TV signal for our aerial.
My host greeted me warmly....he was informative and friendly. You can pay by cash or card. 16 pounds includes site...awning ...water at site...electricity...wifi...and good wifi.....hard pitch and level...can let your dogs run up the path....close to Talisker Distillery...a pub...clam shack...coffee and takeaway...fairy pools 4 miles...you can easily walk to the pub etc. Now....it is right on a fairly busy wee road...but the location is good for touring around Skye....I would return. Thank you Merkadale.
A really useful base for central Skye at a fair price which included hook up hardstanding pitches with their own water taps, shower, loo and free wi-fi all for £15. Great welcome by the friendly and helpful Steve. Great pub 10 mins walk away in Carbost.
We stayed one night on this site. You couldn't ask for a more central place to stay on the Island. The site had all the amenities including showers and water hook up. Electric and Wifi. We arrived late afternoon and the Post Master saw us to our pitch and gave us a lift into the village hoping to catch the last tasting tour of the whisky distillery, unfortunately we were too late so we walked up to the oyster shed and then had a drink in the local. Everybody was so friendly.
We visited this site with a motorhome in May 2018 and stayed for one night on our tour of the Western Isles. We enjoyed our stay and were made to feel welcome. The site matches its description and the facilities were good. The area is lovely and we cycled to the nearby village and although we didn’t visit the Distillery we did call off at the New Inn and sampled a Talisker there. A visit to the Oyster Shed is an absolute must with fantastic oysters and lobsters. We also visited the little gallery on the way back to the site and loved the photographs, they are superb and the owner is really friendly. We will visit this site again, thank you to Mr and Mrs Sutherland
This CL has good views across the Loch because of its elevated position and yes it is just off the main road but it suited us. Each pitch had its own hook up and water tap which made life easy and we were met as we pulled in which was helpful. The site is very handy for visiting the fairy pools and there's the Talisker Distillery in the village if that's your thing. Having access to Wifi is helpful. There is a lovely pub down the hill from the site which we visited twice. Once to have a drink and enjoy the local music and the next night for a meal which was good. Happy to return.
