truly fantastic site

isn;t it a joy to find something wonderfull, we love Scotland but didn;t want to travel up to the highlands so thought we would try Dumfries and Galloway. well we are now home from a 12 night stay it was truly wonderful, from the welcome from George and Isobel to the fantastic spotlessly clean shower and toilet and the colour coded hand towels shows the work Isobel puts in to make the stay so good, we had a great week watching the Ewes lambing in the field next to us. but which ever road you take from the site will bring something new to explore if you like the coast the Mull of Galloway is a must see. back to the site I forgot to mention they are all hard standing with water and waste to each pitch super pitch for this price!!! there is an honesty pot for the shower what I can not get my head around is people that are not prepaired to put a pound in the pot for a shower but then what beats that is the couple who stole the spare toilet roll I kid you not, if I thought they are that hard up I would have given them one !!! or the person who had a free shower and used all the hand towels just speechless, but thank you George and Isobel for as i said a truly wonderful holiday

Tranquility and peace

Isobel and George have really done their homework with their new CL. We stayed just one night in early February and had the site to ourselves apart from their belted Galloway cows in the field next door. Newton Stewart is a village just up the road for supplies etc. George gave us a friendly and informative welcome and Isobel came down to wave us off the next morning. It was a very cold night and they had checked that we had no frozen taps and that all was in order. Beautiful views of the hills and countryside, flat gravel pitches and a brand new info, shower and toilet room make this a model of how every CL should be. A real country getaway and fabulous views of the stars being on the edge of the Galloway forest with its dark skies location. We wish them all the luck with their new venture and hope to return.

A gem

Just returned from 9 nights at this fantastic c.l. Isobel and George could not have been more friendly and welcoming. All pitches are serviced and the facilities _ toilet/shower room _ are immaculate. There is a comprehensive information point and the views are amazing. The Galloway forest is a must and Newton Stewart has a good selection of shops and is a short drive or approx 40mins walk.Hoping to return next year.

Oasis in Galloway

This cl site is a 'must visit'. We have been several times since it opened in May. Isabel and George are lovely people who will give you a warm welcome . All pitches are level, hardstanding and fully serviced. The 'wee hoose' is a great extra, housing wet room style facilities. Easy access to site on this working farm , is a bonus. So much to see locally and handy for shops etc. The scenery is amazing and beautiful sunsets .So relaxing. Of course we'll keep coming back!

10 nights at Machermore

I found this new CL site on line as it is not yet in the book. It is owned by George and Isabel Milroy who own and run Mains of Machermore Farm.It has a good access road right into the site from the A75 near Newton Stewart, all the pitches are level, hardstanding and they are all fully serviced with electric, water and grey waste diposal on all of the 5 pitches so there is no need to bother with any water barrels etc. There is also a lovely shower and toilet in the Wee House along with a good supply of information about the surrounding area. There are good veiws of the surrounding countryside and it is also very tranquil The site is well situated to explore the Solway Firth Coastline or the New Galloway Forest area.It is a site that we will revisit again and that I would reccomend to anyone wishing to stay in this area of Scotland

Marvelous new site!

We have just returned from a two-day break at this new farm CL. We were hugely impressed by the location of the sie and its beautiful surroundings. Its location is great for exploring the Solway coast and the Galloway hills, while at the same time enjoying quick access to the A75 Euro route while only a few minutes from the lovely little town of Newton Stewart. On arrival,l we were extended a warm welcome by the site owner, Isabel who was happy to chat and give us a run down on the site and area. A huge amount of thought has gone into creating this terrific site which, unusually for a lot of CL's, has a hard standing road in and 5 level hardstanding pitches with fresh water, grey water disposal and electrical hook up. This is a truly all year site which has received considerable investment and abolishes wheel spinning and calls for a 4x4 or tractor to get you out of a difficult position in poor weather. The on-site 'Wee Hoose' supplies a very roomy toilet, shower/wet room and wash hand basin. At the entrance, there is an information room with the usual tourist literature. This site is ideal for a few days break but will also cater for longer holidays for those who wish to explore this lovely part of the world. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back. It is a site which has something for everyone and Isabel and her husband George will make you very welcome.

Rural idyll

We stayed for three nights after a very warm welcome from Isabel and George. The CL is brand new with hard standings and fully serviced pitches. The surprise was the beautifully presented wet room and information centre in he wooden cabin on site. Surrounded by farm animals and with many bird species visiting the hedgerows and farm buildings there was plenty to look at from the 'van. Newton Stewart is a reasonable walk away. For cyclists National Cycle Route 7 is close by with easy access. Marvelous site and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
