Mixed feelings

We booked this site due to it's proximity to transport links into Liverpool as we were going to a concert. It was very easy to find being literally next door to major road networks. On arrival I couldn't get hold of the owner to let us in as the gate was padlocked for security reasons I think. It was nearly 40mins before the gentleman owner returned one of my many missed calls. I spent this time avidly looking for alternative sites. He was most apologetic but this was the 1st time in over 15 yrs, we'd ever been locked out of a site and I was in panic mode. Anyway, we were showed onto a small grassed paddock accessed through another padlocked gate with 5 pitches and could pick any that was available. There was high hedging separating the site from the busy road and old farm buildings on the other side so no view at all. There were lots of units scattered around the land surrounding the CL, amongst the farm buildings. The owner was friendly enough, chatty and welcoming. 20 minutes walk to Metrorail station at Maghull Nth along a busy but well lit road with good wide pavements. The site itself, well I've mixed feelings about it. Great base for accessing Merseyside and surrounding areas easily. £20 a night, cheap as chips these days with water and ehu on pitch. No facilities other than an elsan point and bins. Road noise day and night from adjacent A -road and motorway. I can happily cope with some noise infact, I find silence deafening but this was another level and it wasn't comfortable. We've used sites in built up area's and city centres that are quieter. So, horses for courses. Lyons Farm serves as a good base but not a relaxing chill out site in my opinion.

Campervan visit July 2023

We chose the site for access to Ormskirk which proved to be as easy as other reviewers described. It is an easy walk to the station with pavement all the way. The site was well kept with friendly owners; we did not need levellers. Although we expected the hum from the motorway, we found the traffic noise from the road outside the site & vehicles not on the CL moving in the early morning disturbed us. Site facilities as described elsewhere.

Fabulous CL. Easy access off M58. Chris is the owner is welcoming and helpful. If he’s not at home when you arrive, call him on his mobile and he’ll give you the site access code as gates are locked. All pitches have tap and EHU. £20 per night. Fairly flat pitches but used first step of levelling wedge on one side of caravan. Super chemical toilet emptying point. Site is very well cared for. Good access into Liverpool and beyond using train from Maghull North Train Station. This station is 1 mile from site. Parking is free for rail users. Mersey Rail Day Pass costs £4.20 and can be used for travel into Liverpool Central Station and beyond. There’s Morrison’s Supermarket and Co-Op in Maghill, take aways and pubs. Ormskirk is a short drive and has twice weekly market, Morrison’s Supermarket and Marks & Spencer’s Food Shop and a pedestrianised shopping precinct. The soft hum of traffic noise can be heard but wasn’t sufficient to bother us. We stayed 9 nights and enjoyed every minute. We are in love with Liverpool and the friendly locals, and can’t wait to return.

Welcoming Host but Compromised Site

All previous comments about the hosts welcome and accurate. Very pleased to see us and knowledgeable. It wasn't entirely his fault that the pitch we were offered wasn't in a field as in the picture. Apparently due to recent wet weather the camping fields was too wet for vehicles so we were in a small yard on a concrete base which had at one time been a building. It would have been better to refuse the booking. Site fee is now £15 and I'm not sure how anyone can mark it a 'peaceful' the motorway is only a field away. All comments about access to Liverpool are accurate, the train station at Maghull North is relatively new, has good access and a regular commuter service. So in general, OK for a couple of nights, particularly if you have business in Liverpool, but, if it's wet not for much longer.

March 2019

We went to this site to go to Liverpool for my wife's birthday. Mersey Rail have a station called Maghull North, which is only about a mile from the site. Plenty of water and the field for dogs is great for my wife's guide dog to have a play. The owner has great knowledge of the area too and always stops for a chat. We Have booked again for August Bank holiday weekend. The prices are very good too.

great site

stopped at lyons farm for 3 nights. The owner was very friendly and even hooked up our van to his tractor and put it on site because the ground was very soft due to a lot of recent rain. We used this a base when we went to aintree. A taxi to maghull station was £4 and the train only a few pounds. Its a basic site, but great location and the owner is very nice.

Warm welcome

The owner of the site was very warm, knowledgeable and welcoming. This was a really handy location for moving on to see Another Place on Crosby Beach. We noticed that Carla Lane's Animal Sanctuary was just down the road. We found a nice Indian restaurant in nearby Maghull. Very enjoyable. We would return for a visit to Liverpool. Other site users were good company.

good location

Stayed here for long weekend so that we could visit liverpool. great location, just a few miles from the local train station Maghull. Train cost us £12 for the 4 of us for a return ticket into the city. Didn't meet the owner until last day but a very nice gentleman. A bit of a pain having to keep unlocking gate everytime to want to leave but it does add extra secruity. The CL is well kept and flat and offer large pitches with electricity and water on each pitch. Only down side really is that site is very close to 3 very busy noisy roads and you could really hear them, luckily it was this time of year and we were sat in the caravan. My ear plugs came in very useful during the night. Plenty of scope to put toilet or shower in the future. Overall great location, nice owner and large flat pitches. Would return to site to visit liverpool and surronding areas.

Good site

Just off the M58.  Good ease of access, but do not just turn up as you may not get in owing to a security gate.  BOOK FIRST.  Free car park, all day in Maghull, behind the shops.  Bus stops 50 yds away to Liverpool, Skelmersdale and Wigan.  Just round the corner buses to Southport.  Good roads in the area.  Warden on site but has a day job so not always someone at the CL.  Some road noise.  No need to drive into Liverpool.
