Excellent Site - Great for exploring the Solway area

We spent two nights at this site in our motorhome during the heat wave in July 2013. This was the start of a week spent touring the entire length of the Cumbrian coastline. The site is situated on a farm on a quiet, rural road leading out of Longtown. It has 5 pitches, all hardstandings, which are spaced around a large central, grassed area, itself surrounded by a hard surfaced roadway with a sensible one way system signed. The entrance to the site is straight of the road so you should have no problems getting to your pitch even if it is raining. All pitches have electric hook up and water laid on. There is only one (combined) toilet / shower room but this is, by any standards, a superb facility. It appears to be a converted wooden summer house. It has good, clean and modern facilities which are maintained to a very high standard. The room is cleaned spotless and towels and mats are changed on a daily basis. There is a full complement of waste disposal facilities allowing different types of recyclable waste to be disposed of separately. There is also another summer house which contains a good range of local guides and tourist information etc. We were warmly greeted by Mrs Taylor who told us all about the site and gave advice on the local area. In the evening Mr Taylor visited, and chatted with, everyone on site and presented every family with six new laid eggs produced by their own chickens. As a tip, take some corn or other suitable bird food with you and you will make friends for life with the numerous chickens and ducks on the farm (they will probably be waiting outside your van in the morning!). Even the cockerels seemed well trained as we were not woken at dawn by them on either morning. Longtown is around a mile’s walk or drive away and has an interesting mix of local shops. There is a choice of eating places in the town. We had a very good and reasonably priced dinner in the Sycamore café. We visited Carlisle, a city we had never been to before and had a pleasant half day exploring the centre with its good range of shops, eating places and historical attractions. We are birders and so visited the RSPB reserve at Campfield Marsh which is around half an hour’s drive away. In its lovable way, the RSPB seems determined to disguise the presence of the reserve. If you take the coast road out of Bowness on Solway you may be lucky enough to spot the road leading to the reserve on your left. It looks like there may be a visitor centre under construction, in which case the RSPB will, hopefully, improve its signage. There are a number of pull ins on the coast road where you can view the birdlife on the shore. This was, by far, the best of the four sites we stayed at on our tour. It is probably the best we have ever stayed at. For us this site is a “must” if you want to explore the English and / or Scottish side of this, relatively unspoiled, western border area. An absolute cracker

Had 4 nights last week at this site I cannot praise it enough, from the warmth of our welcome to the beauty of the place it was wonderful The shower room was one of the best I've come across and was kept very clean with fresh towels every day The farm fresh eggs were very good, an amazing variation in size and colour due to the varying breeds of hen - we even got a blue one (and no it wasn't a duck egg) We were lucky to be there in glorious weather and enjoyed visiting Hadrian's Wall and Lanercost Priory Try not to miss Carlisle Castle - excellent There is a very good butcher's shop on the road to the site just after you turn off the mainroad and a well stocked small Spar in Longtown itself Adele and Owen were superb hosts - we will return!

A Truly Brilliant Site!!

This is a brilliant CL, very easy access, safe, and secure. The welcome you get is second to none, and the added touch of free eggs, is a nice gesture by the owners. If you love ducks, chickens, sheep and donkeys, this is the place for you. If you love peace and quiet, this is definitely the CL for you. If you are ever in the area, we highly recommend that you use this CL, but most of all you should make a point of visiting it, you will not be disappointed. The facilities are cleverly designed, and impeccably clean and modern, a really first class site and worthy of it awards by the Caravan Club, and tourist authorities. We will return, of that there is no doubt! Well done and thank you for a lovely break!!

Impossible to fault

The previous reviews say it all. A lot of time, effort and money has been put into the making of making this site, and boy does it show. Well done.

Excellent Low Moor Head

This is the best CL I have ever stopped at. There was a very warm welcome waiting when I arrived with a tour of the facilities. The site is immaculate with fine views of the surrounding countryside. There are farm animals and the ducks wander around the site looking to be fed. There is a dog walk close. The lakes are within a short drive and gretna green is about 10 mins away. I will be returning again even though I live in Cornwall.

A jewel in the Crown of great CL

After reading reviews, both on here and on other sites i have to say, this CL is one of the very best that i have ever been on, its beautifully presented, with lovely views and a fantastic woods just over the road from the farm, that if your lucky, you may see the deer. The facilities are lovely, i was shown by the (very rightly so proud owner) all around the CL, the toilet/shower block is lovely, so clean, and so nice smelling, better than you would get in some hotels, the information hut is lovely, you can sit and read all about local information, and i shall certainly be adding my name to the visitors book. The cherry on the cake is certainly got to be the free eggs that the owner gave us on arrival, better still, we had the chickens around us, and the two lovely mules and other animals, so really has that farm feel, and the eggs, well, they were lovely. We have never has such a good welcome, i would highly recommend this CL, its ideal for a stop for a few days, or just overnight for reaching Scotland, we shall certainly be back, and i shall be voting for this as CL of the year. Thank you for treating us so well on our stay x

May 2013 review of Low Moor Head Farm CL

I have never stayed at a site that is so well maintained and the facilities are excellent. We received a warm welcome upon arrival with a tour of the facilities. The site is far superior to commercial sites I have stopped at and I can not speak to highly of it. It has all hard standings with 3 super pitch facilities and another 2 being installed at a convenient time. The outlook is stunning and the Farm Animals are a delight. It is an ideal location to explore the lakes and southern Scotland. We will most certainly be visiting again.

A lovely site

Unfortunately, we were only able to stop for one night in August 2011 as we needed to break our journey en route to Scotland. We could have happily stayed longer. We were quite touched when the owners' son came to welcome us with a gift of eggs from the farm. The site has a hard standing for each pitch, with a well-laid circular drive around the perimeter of the site. There is much space between pitches and well-kept grass around the hard standings. The site is set in a very tranquil location with little, if no noise from the farm and local traffic; it may be somewhat exposed in high winds. We would certainly like to visit again!
