first caravan outing

The place was quiet, if a light sleeper you will need ear plugs as there is a lots of sheep in the field behind the site. Toilets nice and clean and everyone friendly. Close to the beeches for walking the dog. As this was our first caravan trip as a family it was a lovely site to start at.

Saddened to read your nasty comments. The site is tranquil lets keep it that way. I too would be annoyed by noisy dogs and as for letting them loose on a working farm that is irresponsible. This site is obviously not for you so look elsewhere then everyone will be happy. I visit the site quite regularly. Keep up the good work Tracy your site is a treat.

First CL site visit

This was our first time at a CL site has we only bought our Motorhome in September 2013 and used the CC sites to get used to it. It certainly set a high standard for others to follow. A warm welcome from Tracy, despite her being busy in the middle of the lambing season. Nice open well kept pitches, very warm, clean toilet and shower facilities. Blue skies and a craving for Sunday Lunch saw us head off across the fields to the Burlington Inn. Real ales and a superb meal with proper puddings, highly recommended (dogs allowed). Some nice walks in the area but a car is needed for getting further afield. Great views across the Duddon estuary towards Haverigg. Will definitely be back soon. We followed the A5092 from Greenodd and left onto the A595 at Grizebeck without problem. Just a few hundred metres of narrow road from Grizebeck but passing places with care. This route is much shorter than going via Dalton especially with a large motorhome.

Comment from The Caravan Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay here. We do recommend that members follow the directions in the Sites Directory and Handbook and on the site’s website page. The alternative route suggested here does have a very narrow and twisty section in which it is difficult for even 2 cars to pass and it has been known for vehicles to get jammed. Thanks again for leaving a review and we hope you continue to enjoy both Club and CL Sites.

Relaxing stay

Never stayed at a CL before and if this is the standard we will definitely be doing it again. Despite being right in the middle of lambing season, we received a warm welcome on arrival at the site. The site was quiet so picked our own pitch and set-up. The electricity is a lower rating than some sites so be careful not to trip it through too much load - a normal domestic kettle is not recommended. There are numerous stand pipes for filling up your aquaroll so you never have to drag it too far back to your van. The toilet block is warm and kept very clean. The grass between the pitches is beautifully kept. There are lots of footpaths in the area so plenty of walking available. The Burlington pub is a 5 minute walk away as is a local shop. The Ravenglass railway is easily accessible up the coast as is Coniston, windermere and Hawkshead. My only minor criticism of the site would be that there are no hand driers in the toilet block and a sink for washing up would be a useful addition. Having seen some of the roads in the area, do not follow your sat nav to get to the site, use the instructions in the club book. Would definitely stop here again - outstanding value.

CL? ....

.......advertised as a CL next to a self contained caravan site? it is a caravan site with 12 pitches!? :-/ Doesn't bother us but some may query it? Very spacious, slightly sloping pitches, with beautifully kept lawns in between. Two large shower rooms with a toilet in each, plus a separate toilet, plenty of water points around the site. Some nice views from all of the pitches. Roads not too bad in coming from Askam direction. Great value and would recommend it.

dog walks

July 2013. Having been to Low Hall with our dog we had no problem finding lots of nice walks. There is more than one footpath from the site you can walk through the farm fields on the footpath to Kirkby-in-Furness/Soutergate and onto Kirkby Moor there are many variations and lots of circular routes. So long as you stay on the designated public footpath and respect the countryside code there is no problem walking through the local farmers fields. A beautiful tranquil stay with excellent facilities. Definitely need a car to travel to local beauty spots of which there are many within a 30 minute drive.

Weekend away

Excellent site. Facilities spotlessly clean. Site very well kept. Owner friendly and welcoming. Lovely quiet site to chill out after a day site seeing. Visitors should go over the bridge to the island narrow roads but pretty views. Lots of places to pull over for a picnic although no coffee shops or cafe's. Barrow has every shop you could want so you will never go short. We will be back and hopefully soon. Thanks for a lovely break.

little gem

We stayed for two nights a couple of weekends ago, the weather was wonderful and this the nicest CL we have come across so far. The showers and toilet block are amazing. Some nice walks to be had behind the site if you like hills...we do. The lady who runs the little post office was ever so helpful she held a little stock of everything, I cant comment on the pubs for food as we BBQ both nights.

sorry to say this but

on arrival what a great site, lawned area's plenty of space between the 6 units 3 toilets and 2 showers but these were shared with another 6 units in this part of the field, the site was full the whole time we were there and the weather very hot . children and dogs very welcome only we get parked next to a man who didn't like dogs huh, could we keep her quiet please, made for a unpleasent time, and although this is in the middle of nowhere there is nowhere to walk your dog apart from the lane, when my husband decieded to throw a ball on a empty field next to the lane he was asked by the farmer not to let her on the grass because dogs carry diseases. mmmmmmm !!! on the good side the showers and toilets were spotless and spacious. , the owner Tracey was welcoming and helpful, and I know it's not her fault about the nasty man. It's a bit out for visiting the Lakes, but close to Barrow In Furness for shopping and South Lakes Zoo.

It doesn't always rain in Windermere !

We were overly cautious in visiting 'The Lakes' due to the reputation the weather has in Cumbria, however on arrival we were met by a lovely little CL with an 'away from it all' feel, and views to die for, really more than a CL showers lovely, pitches large off the beaten track, nice walk across the fields of the owners to the only shop for a few miles, and the weather was Fabulous, in fact schools has just started back after the late May BH (which wouldn't have been an issue) so we had site to ourselves for almost a week! i can definitely recommend this site and would visit again if decided to go back to the Lake District.
